Hi All,
Just another bit of trivia regarding the Beverly Hillbillies....Andy
Griffith's former manager, Richard O. Linke is married to Bettina Linke.
Bettina appeared on five episodes (I believe that's the correct number) of
the Beverly Hillbillies as one of the secretaries in Mr. Drysdales secretary
pool. She also ended up marrying Shorty Kellum's (a Clampett cousin) on the
show. I'm not sure who played the part of Shorty though.

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Has anyone else seen the new Scooby-Doo movie yet? I caught two TAGS
references. Don Knotts is mentioned in one scene (a wonderful tribute,
since Don appeared in two Scooby-Doo cartoons), but the other reference is
much more obscure.
If you go to the film, listen closely and see if you can catch it. About
halfway through the film, there's a song about spooks. Unless I imagined
it, I heard the lyrics "Protect us all from the man with the hex" at the end
of this song. On TAGS, this was a line in a verse Barney recited in "The
Jinx," which went:
Winkum, Binkum, Nodamus Rex,
Protect us all from the man with the hex!
On the whole, the film was very enjoyable and suitable for the whole family.
There is a little "bathroom humor" (so prevalent in children's entertainment
these days) and one joke about nudity, but other than that it was good clean
fun.

>>>I guess I'm just a poor excuse for a trained noticer, but I'll be danged
if I can figure out what Margaret is talking about when she mentions
drawings or paintings at the beginning and end of each episode.
The original closing credits were like the opening credits, except that Andy
and Opie were walking back down the road in the other direction, carrying
the fish they'd caught. Pictures of various GF products (Post cereal,
Sanka, etc.) would pop up in the lower corner of the screen.
After The Show entered syndication, it became necessary to replace these
credits, since GF was no longer the sponsor. Sometimes, they just used
blank cards (grey ones at first, then light blue) with plain text on them,
but other times, there was a small drawing down in the corner of the screen.
The artwork depicted things like a row of Mayberry buildings or a lake
shore. As of this writing, no one has been able to identify the artist of
these sketches. Perhaps his or her name has been lost to history.
If you haven't ever seen these, then you must be watching TAGS on a channel
that uses the plain cards with no artwork.

>>>There are two characters in two different episodes that I'd like to ask a
question about .... [in "A Wife for Andy" the girl who says "What did we
turn out for?"] sounds like the voice of "Judy Jetson".
Yes, it's the same actress. Her name is Janet Waldo.
>>> One more episode is the one where the movie producer Mr. Harmon wants to
make a motion picture in Mayberry. His voice to me sounds like the voice of
"Frosty the Snowman".
According to the IMDB, Frosty was voiced by Jackie Vernon. He reprised the
role in "Frosty's Winter Wonderland," (1976) starring Andy Griffith. More
recently, Frosty's voice has been supplied by John Goodman.
On TAGS, Mr. Harmon was played by Dan Frazier.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...... turn OFF the color
on your TV - that's what we do here in the boondocks. It's terapedic AND has
a psycological effect - makes the color episodes more enjoyable. I do the
same for Mayberry RFD.

Mr. Harmon was played by Dan Frazer ("Kojak"). The voice of Frosty the

I agree that the black and white episodes are far superior to the color ones.
Even Andy's demeanor in the color episodes is different. The symbolism of the
black and white - things are clearly right or wrong - is the most significant
statement that the show makes.
I am often accused by my family of living in a black and white world. I wish
I could!

Subject: film noir
Film noir simply means dark film. It was a term coined by the
French to describe dark and somber characters , surroundings etc.
I am certain there are degrees of it. When I mentioned the early
MTSons seemed like film noir, some of the stories had storms. and
episodes that were spooky.Good stuff. One was when a very young
Chip and Steve camped out in the back yard in a storm, another was
when Mike and the guys thought someone was chasing them. The
effects were so good in BW.Also the early MTSons was about the
loss of a mother and the guys trying to get along. It was good TV.
I like all the old shows it just seems that some points were
clearer and more effective in B&W. In TAGS Barns expressions were
. Classic.in BW. I do not think they could have done as well in
colour. But Hey I like Mayberry anyway I can get it.
I think the point about it becoming a whole town in colour is a good
one .
Have a good day.

I think what she is refering to is on some of the color episodes there is a
drawn picture on a blue background that shows part of mayberry.
It is shown at the beginning and ending. I'm not sure if this was done only
during a certain season or only on episodes that went into syndication while
TAGS was still on the air so they could be distinguished from the current
episodes or what the story behind them is tho.
I'm sure Paul could enlighten us tho.

Subject: heard the name "Opie" on a tv show the other day
With Opie bein' such a "unique" name for any one (as has been discussed here
in the letter before), I want to tell y'all that while watching a rerun of Denis
The Menace the other day, actor Dub somebody(is there a Dub Taylor?) (unique
HEAVY southern accent like NO BODY else) played a fix-it man(vacuum in this
episode) named Opie. It was kind of funny because when Dub talked about himself
instead of saying "I" he would say "Opie".
This SHOULD count as legally connecting with TAGS 'cause it involved the
strange
and hardly-ever-used name of Opie.

Subject: Microphones

I know there was an episode of TAGS where we see the Microphone cord coming
out from Andy's pants leg and I was watching
an episode of I love Lucy tonight and when Ricky was singing a song at his
club with the lights turned out and just a spotlight on him you could see a
microphone cord going up his pants leg also. Now for my question. Where was
the microphone actually located at? I know Ricky was wearing a tie and it
probably would have been pretty easy to conceal a microphone there, but Andy
always had an open shirt so there wouldn't be much way to conceal one at his
neck. How small of a microphone did they have back then that would provide
good quality sound?
The other thing that kinda confused me was that about the only time we see a
mic cord on Andy was when he was outdoors since I guess it would have been to
hard to have a mic boom outdoors. But on the I love Lucy episode I'm sure that
it was being filmed on a sound stage. Why would they have even needed a mic on
Ricky at all? Couldn't they have used a boom mic or would it not work for
Rickys singing?
I know that not all of this is TAGS related but I just wonder about these sort
of things.

I believe she is referring to the art work in the corner of the screen as the
credits roll at the end of each episode. I have no information as to who drew
that, but it is nice work.
