I certainly am envious of all you folks going to
Pigeon Forge. I was there a couple of years ago and
all I can say is"It was BIG!" I had a Mayberry moment
(or was it a Matlock moment) this past weekend. My
darling person and I were dining in a restaurant in
Wilmington and what should we spy but a display of
mementos from Matlock! Andy's Georgia license from the
show along with his briefcase and a script were in a
locked glass case. I tried to get my husband to
distract the patrons by yelling FIRE so I could grab
the goodies and run, but he wouldn't go for it. Oh
well... some's got it and some ain't.

"I'd like to see how forgivin' you'd be if you had a
store that sold spirits, and half the county was cuttin'
in on your sales by making their own -- again' the
law."
Sorry Paul, but in this context, there is no other
reasonable interpretation than to accept this as Weaver
claiming to sell liqour in his store. I imagine Weaver
sold toothpicks, brooms and bath towels but we
never "saw" any in his store. (Until the second Ben
Weaver arrived, I don't remember if we ever saw the
inside of his store). Anyway, if Weaver made this
statement and it was illegal to sell liqour, Andy would
have certainly confronted him immediately on the
apparent admission of illegal liqour sales ("Oh, Scoby's
cutting in on your illegal liqour sales Ben?").

Subject: Mayberry Day Silent Auction

For the past three years, WMBUTBB has sponsored the Mayberry Days Silent
Auction as a community service project that supports the Surry Arts Council
(host of the event). Donations come from members of our chapter and in many
differnt forms - memorabilia, unique hand crafted Mayberry items,
autographed items and more. Plans are underway for another auction in 2002
and I hope you will consider being a part of the fun.

I will have more details later, but thought I would mention it now because
of the opportunity for many of you to get something autographed at the show
in Pigeon Forge this weekend for a donation to the Silent Auction.
Autographed memorabilia can make for some exciting bids and I hope those of
you attending will consider our annual service project and help us out. The
auction is far from exclusively autographed memorabilia and there is always
something for everyone to bid. For those who have wanted to donate, but
can't find the right thing, this would a great way to help.

If you have any questions, please email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

TAGS fans,

I have recently noticed several DVDs at our local Wal-Marts and Best
Buys of TAGS. I haven't bought any of them for one simple reason: they
don't list the episodes on the box! Best Buy has a two disc set that
advertises 10 episodes, W-M has a four disc set and a one disk box that
advertise 16 episodes and 8 episodes respecitvely, and none of them say the
episode titles on the box. I have also noticed similar, unnamed episode
boxes for Bonanza, I Love Lucy and The Beverly Hillbillies. Maybe it has
something to do with the copyrights, kind of like the ones with the strange
music, but it seems like such a strange offering from a marketing
standpoint. After all, when was the last time you saw a CD by a major
artist that didn't list the songs on it? (You can bet "The Best of Leonard
Blush" lists every song on it, including "Darling Sylvia.")

If any of you can tell me why the episode titles wouldn't be listed on
these CDs, I would enjoy hearing your thoughts.

Sam

SHAZZAM! Imagine my surprise at seeing Aunt Bee on the
back of the box of Kellogg's Raisin Bran! Actually
it's Eleanor Roosevelt. But, the resemblence is
uncanny...I believed it was Bee until I read the
caption.

The question is to match the famous quote with the
notable person. H-m-m-m-m, what would Aunt Bee's quote
be?

I'm hoping to be at the Pigeon Forge, but am just not sure if I can pull it
off yet. Anyway, if I can make a suggestion: Can nametags be available
for us to wear (names and "WBMUTBB on them)? When I was at the last
gathering there, I enjoyed meeting several people I only knew from our
little online community. I'm sure there were others there that I missed.

Subject: Return to Mayberry
Date: Tue, 25 Jun 2002 09:06:09 -0500

I got home from Work last Saturday about 1:30, ready to relax for awhile,
and put off doing anything
constructive. So flipping channels about 2:00 PM, I was happy to see Return
to Mayberry was on, being
shown on Cable Channel 3 in Greensboro. I had forgotten how good it was.
One of the best moments is
when Andy delivers his grandson. Right before he does it, he tells Opie
there 'were half dozen people
who saw Andy before they saw their parents.' I took that to mean he
delivered six babies. I seem to think
there were 2-3 he delivered on the show, but I can only remember the one,
where Barney kept the
Father occupied by talking to him about the war or something like that. Can
anyone remember any more?

That's an extry good idea!! If someone is willing to have some name tags (the
kind you peal off and stick on your shirt) AND if folks are willing to wear
them, I think it would be great!! I'll *try* and see if Jan and I can get the
name tags stickers and folks can use a magic marker to write their names on
them.

I would suggest that you put your "Mayberry" nickname AND your real name on the
tag.

anyone is interested, I have downloaded it and placed a link on my

She should becarefull, remember that brother she had ...

I would always vote for #2, Humble and Wise Andy.

Now, I'm just working off memory here, but weren't those the Mendelbright
sisters? And wasn't a Mrs. Mendelbright Barney's landlady at one point?
There was an episode where Barney rescued her from marrying a man who only
wanted her money. If she was, in fact, one of the Mendelbright sisters, then
she did appear on screen in that episode.

By the way, it's great to be a member of WBMUTBB? once again after having
been offline for about a year. The only drawback is reading about all you
folks who are going to Pigeon Forge to see the cast members -- and I can't
go! (Someday, I would love to meet Betty Lynn in person. She seems to be
sweet, kind, and down to earth, like Thelma Lou.) Several of you folks have
adopted Mayberry names that you use in your posts. I didn't do that when I
was a member before, but I have decided that I would like to be "Thelma Lou."
I've not noticed another Thel out there, so I'll assume I'm not stepping on

Does anybody know why that was (and I don't mean about her having red hair)?
Obviously, Barney was no longer there, but Thelma Lou's character could have
been retained in the show. Did the producers deliberately intend to write
her out of the show? Did they feel, for some reason, that her character was
not strong enough to stand on its own without Barney? Did they feel the
viewers would not accept a Barney-less Thelma Lou? Or did Betty Lynn choose
to withdraw from the show? I hope Paul or somebody can shed some light on
these questions. (Like Barney, I have an inquiring mind.)

By the way, I sent my last post without giving it a proper subject line.
Sorry about that!

Thelma Lou
(FYI, this Thelma Lou has naturally red hair, too!)
