Has anyone discovered the name of the actor who played Mr. Schwump? Has
anyone tried to research the payroll records at Desilu Studios, if such
records still exist?

No one has found out who Mr. Schwamp was as of yet. At least nobody had told
us. I don't know for sure that anyone has gone over payroll but I do know
they've gone over casting information and stuff like that. So far, no luck.

Greetings,
Just gotta say that the new ads airing on TV Land about TAGS are just as
funny as every doing time in M-TOWN seeing all the episodes with different
jail birds in Mayberry. As for me if I'm ever in Mayberry I surely would not
want to go to the ROCK with Deputy Fife on guard. NO U-turns or moonshining
for me.
Everyone have a safe and Happy 4th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YO - Jan - the Mayberry Squad Car Natn'l event sounds a lot like driving to
work in Dallas. I felt like I was right there with you. Thanks for sharing
the details of the race.

I've also noticed various inconsistencies as to directions around town.
It seems as though the writers or directors were trying to make the town
look bigger. For years I've been confused as to the location of the bank
but I think I finally figured it out while watching a color episode the
other day. I believe it's on the corner across and down from the theater
but then maybe not!

There was the guy, I can't recall his name, who played multiple characters.
The guy selling veggies by the road, the guy who Ol' Barn gave the littering
ticket to..........and I want to say there was a another character he
played....... he later went on to be Sam the Butcher in The Brady Bunch.

Actually, Bill Cosby used to do this quite frequently. Use a character in a
small role and then bring them back as a recurring character.

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi all,

I watched the episode yesterday involving Aunt Bee losing her pin, only to
find it later in her painting coat. When she got the check from the
insurance company, Andy told her to go spend it right away. Bee said that
she was going to buy a garbage disposal, since she had to sell it to pay the
income taxes on the prizes she won on the game show. My wife and I talked
about this last night and we seemed to remember that the garbage disposal was
the only item she didn't sell that she won on the game show. Are we correct?
 Please let us know.

Hello everyone, and happy Independence Day !!

It's time to sit on the porch a spell and chat about the things that make
Mayberry and America great. Make sure your children know about things like
the Declaration of Independence, and maybe give a hand at memorizing the
preamble to the constitution. Barney can give you a hand with that, ya know!

As someone else has already said, fly the flag proudly and treat this symbol
of our freedom with care and respect.

It's living in the good ole USA that allows us the time we spend here in
Mayberry and the freedom to choose our way of life.

Thanks for listening, drive safely if you're travelling this weekend
somewhere out in those amber waves of grain or purple mountains majesty, or
anywhere at all in this one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and
justice for all.

I'll keep the porchlite on, if y'all want to stop by for ice cream or
rootbeer floats!

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Today is the 139th anniversary of the final day of the battle of Gettysburg.
Malcolm Merriweather was on his way to Gettysburg when his stopped off in
Mayberry. This episode was written around the time of the 100th anniversary
of the battle of Gettysburg in 1963. Of course, Malcolm corrected Barney that
Lincoln was the 16th President of the U.S., while Franklin Pierce was the
14th and James Buchanan was the 15th.
These days, Gettysburg is frequented by bicyclists. There are more today than
there were in 1963. Malcolm would be proud. We had a Mayberry moment or I
should say "Malcolm" moment at Gettysburg last year when this young girl
slammed into the driver's side door of our car on Little Round Top. She was
alright, just a little shaken.
I hope the same thing didn't happen to Malcolm.

P.S. Any TAGS fans visiting Gettysburg, visit President Eisenhower's house
there. Remember Ike was President when the show debuted on October 3, 1960.

I seem to recall the bus stop being next to the court
house at one time. Remember when Dud Wash came home

On the subject of Howard Sprague as county clerk and
insurance salesman. Gunsmoke puuled the same person
different roles with Newly O'brien. Newly had the same
name, but went from outlaw to deputy sheriff.

Have you noticed when you watch Andy or another great show, Father
Knows Best, you feel as though you are sharing a real part of the
characters lives? So few shows accomplish this. Even most 50's tv
still seems contrived. I feel this quality keeps us watching,
rewatching, and wanting more.
