>>>It always looks to me like Barn really enjoys kissing Thel.
Was there any off-screen romantic interest?

Probably not, since Don Knotts was married at the time. His wife's name was
Kay Metz, and they had two kids, Tommy and Karen. Tommy appears in "The
Ghost and Mr. Chicken" as the boy who asks Luther for his autograph (I
suppose Karen was in the crowd somewhere as well). Karen went on to become
an actress as an adult. She played a secretary in "Return to Mayberry," and
she occasionally works with her dad in plays.
There WAS a "behind the scenes" romance going on, though. Aneta Corsaut
(Helen) dated writer Jim Fritzell for many years. Fritzell and his partner
Everett Greenbaum were responsible for many, many great TAGS episodes.

Thanks to the miracle of eBay, I just got four Brother Dave Gardner albums.
My dad had a couple when I was a youngun, but they were misplaced along the
way somewhere.
My question is, is there any connection between Brother Dave and TAGS?
Listening to Brother Dave talk about the South (<--capitalized, note) reminds
me of some of Andy Griffiths comedy routines. And some of Brother Dave's
stories remind me of some stories on TAGS. Did any of the writers "recycle"
any Brother Dave material? Are there examples?
Take care everybody,
...Alan (I came to fill my vase!)

In response to the question about the actor who played several different
charactors on TAGS, including the man selling veggies beside the road, and
later played Sam the Butcher on "the Brady Bunch," the actor was ALLEN MELVIN.
He in fact played EIGHT different characters on TAGS over the years. Can anyone
else come up with any other actors and actresses who played more than one
character on TAGS? There were several ! !

Alan Melvin also played on the Dick Van Dyke show as Rob's army buddy Sam. In
one episode of the Dick Van Dyke Show he played a character from camp crowder
who was the guy that operated the spotlight at the USO shows, his name was
Harrison Harding. Have a great mayberry weekend. cathy jernigan
