Subject: Parlor/b&w
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Yes, my home in the inner city, an old (1800's)
'craftsman' style home had two front-rooms. One we
called the dining room and the other the front room.
My mom explained the front room was considered the
parlor. That is where funerals, etc. were held, before
funeral parlors.
Of course when funeral parlors came into vogue, you no
longer needed the parlor in your home. So, in our home
the parlor became the front room, where the
comfortable chairs, couch & tv were. Of course tv came
along long after parlors became front rooms or living
rooms, etc.
Also, I recently realized why I didn't understand the
TAGS b&w/vs color thing. I have a 6" b&w tv. When I
saw a color TAGS recently, it hit me. I've been
watching all TAGS episodes in b&w!
TED
In the Cow Thief episode
when they are all standing around in Fletch's house
the mayor referred
to
the living room as a parlor. The question I have is
does anyone ever
remember referring to a living room as a parlor? I
always thought of a
parlor as a more private room - off in another part of
the house. If
you
were going to do any courtin' or sparkin' it seems
like it would be
pretty
difficult in the living room, especially if the girl
had a big family.

How would you spend the day? I think I'd catch an
early breakfast at the diner, consisting of a simple
cereal, OJ, toast, scrambeled eggs and coffee.
Then, at about 8:00 I'd walk over to the barber shop
and see what was goin' on over there. See what new
jokes have been circulated and catch up on gossip.
Hopefully Henry isn't around so I can get in a game or
two of checkers.
Then, I might head over to either wally's or the
courthouse. Maybe Barney'd want to get a cup of coffee
at the diner.
At lunch, I'd head over to see what Aunt Bee had made.
I think then I'd just take a walk around town and see
what was goin on. Possibly get in some fishing at
Meyers lake. At evening I'd get dinner at Morelli's
(get the pounded steak ala Morelli, it comes
recommended). After dinner, I'd head over to ange's
and set on the front porch with them and just chit
chat. I may also see if a Glenn Ford movie is playing.
What would your day be like? I'm sure some others'
recommendations may change mine once I see them. But I
just listed all this on a whim. Are you going to
question a whim??

My vote for most to-die-for smile goes to Elinor Donahue, who asked to be
"relieved of duty" after the first year of the series. (Her last episode
was #27, if I'm not mistaken.) The producers brought in a few more ladies
before Aneta Corsaut made her debut as Helen in episode 86.
My vote for the girl who gave Andy the most grief goes to Charlene
Darling, who had him out in the wee hours of the night digging up owl's
beaks and what-not. "Turn away, boys."
Hope Everyone is well,
Jason

There was a guy that used to work in our office that was named Andy
Taylor. I didn't know him personally, but I heard he was a really nice
guy. Unfortunately, he passed away much too soon (age 37).

We're never who sold the car to Otis, but you're correct in stating that
Otis later sold it to Charlie Varney.
The very same car can be seen in a few other episodes. In "Gomer the House
Guest" it's driven by a man named Willy Jack (Andy writes him a ticket for
having bad brakes), and later the "Fun Girls" drive it. Perhaps Otis bought
it from Willie Jack, and Charlie Varney sold it to the Fun Girls.

the barber shop. My husband wanted to get a haircut but the line was
incredible. We really enjoyed ourselves. I am a hugh fan of the show and I'm

I grew up watching the Andy Griffith show and still love it to this day. I
watch it every chance I get. It's a timeless show that teaches good character
values that can be used in this day and age, even tho the shows are from the
1960's. It's too bad the younger generation didn't have them to grow up with
and appreciate.

Like many TAGS watchers I like the black and white Don Knotts episodes the
most.
My favorite episodes are those with the "fun girls" and when Barney buys the
"cycle."

Hi.......a bit about me? I am a middle school teacher that rushes home
everyday to catch the 5:30 viewing of AG. It has and always will be my daily
therapy. I used to be a member of the Andy Griffith Appreciation Society and
went to the convention at the then Stofers Hotel in Winston-Salem. My
contribution to the event was to have a cardboard life-size cut out picture
of Barney since he couldn't attend! :0)
The roots of Mayberry run deep in my family.....my brother won the whistling
contest at the same convention....
We also like to get on line and e-mail each other quotes from various
episodes ........just for laughs.
We like to have AG Trivia parties at the house and invite the
neighbors.....no we're not bored.....we are just fans of the show....the kids
like it too. You can't find these values on today's show.

In listening to Goober's ramblings during their discussion group last night,
I noticed he had things all fouled up when he was talking about Hawaii and
Alaska. He said Hawaii was the 49th state although he always thought Alaska
should have been 49. Now I'm assuming that's the way the script had it and
ol' George wasn't ad libbing.
