Barney would be 75/76 according to "Barney on the Rebound" (1961). "I'll
tell ya the truth Barn, if I saw a 35 year-old-man coming up my walk with a
snowcone in his hands... I wouldn't even open the door."

"Class Reunion" (1963) indicates 75 years since it tells us Barn and Ange
graduated high school in 1945 (@ 18 years, born in 1927).

But along comes "The Return of Barney Fife" (1965) and its Class of 1948
reunion, subtracting 3 years from his age.

I always wondered what the Cold streams were when Malcolm proudly said he was
once a part of. So did a little research and thought you might want to know
what he was really a part of: He must have lost some of his fighting
techniques when he took on Earnest T. Bass.
Coldstream Guards
The second regiment of footguards, part of the Household Division of the
British army.
Raised by Cromwell in 1650 for service in Scotland under Gen. <A
HREF="http://www.xrefer.com/entry.jsp?xrefid=362904";>Monck</A>, the
regiment acquired its present name following an overnight halt at the Border
village of Coldstream during Monck's decisive march to London in 1660. Units
of the Coldstreams have participated in many historic actions, among them <A
HREF="http://www.xrefer.com/entry.jsp?xrefid=363136";>
Oudenarde</A> (1708), <A
HREF="http://www.xrefer.com/entry.jsp?xrefid=362786";>Malplaquet</A> (1709), and
<A HREF="http://www.xrefer.com/entry.jsp?xrefid=361860";>Dettingen</A> (1743),
as well as
fighting under Wellington in the Peninsular campaign and at Waterloo. The
regiment won seven Victoria Crosses during World War I, and between 1939 and
1945 took part with distinction in the North African, Italian, and Normandy
campaigns.

Hey gang!
I will be set up at the autograph show selling various Mayberry related items
from 10-12 on Saturday. That will be the only time that I will be "open for
business" so be sure to drop by and say "hey." I'll have photographs,
autographs, the "LOCAL BARBER CAPTURES ESCAPED CONVICTS" replica newspaper
and something new this time around, copies of the haircut poster just like
the one in Floyd's Barber Shop. I'll see you there!

I think I knew what you meant. The house my grandparents lived in for a
long time. Had two entirely separate, but side-by-side front doors. Both
opened up right to the front porch (which was, just as you day, covered but
not enclosed). Opening both wouldn't have provided any more of an entrance
because they sere separated by some (maybe a few inches) of the brick
wall. That was in North Carolina (hence, a TAGS connection); so, it's not
just a Kentucky thing.

Speaking of which, I'm in process of buying a great old house here in
Kentucky. It was built around 1930 and is in a very Mayberry-like
setting. It has only one front door that opens up to a great front porch
(covered but not enclosed). And there IS a room that can be properly
called the parlour! It probably has enough room so that "adventure
sleeping" won't be necessary very often.

Highway to Be Named for Andy Griffith

.c The Associated Press

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) - Actor Andy Griffith will have a portion of U.S. 52
named in his honor.

Griffith, 76, starred in the popular '60s TV sitcom ``The Andy Griffith
Show.'' The series was set in the fictional town of Mayberry, widely believed
to be based on Mount Airy.

The state Transportation Board approved the highway naming last week.

``We now have a `go' from the governor and the secretary of transportation,''
Transportation Board member Sam Erby said Monday. ``And, barring some kind of
illness, Andy Griffith and his wife, Cindy, are planning to attend the
ceremony.''

The ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 16.

Griffith was last honored in his hometown on June 1, 1957, on Andy Griffith
Day. He had returned from his Broadway triumph, ``No Time for Sergeants,''
and was honored with a parade and a key to the town.

Griffith and his wife live in Manteo, along the North Carolina coast.

Subject: MAYBERRY MIDWEST UPDATE
Date: Fri, 19 Jul 2002 15:25:23 -0500

Hi Gang..
Back at home for a few hours from the New Castle Mayberry event, and thought I
would drop a line. Advantage of living a half hour away I guess.
Attended the media conference with the stars at 11am this morning, and got
some great comments on tape as well as pics.
Howard Morris stole the show and was fantastic as was Betty Lynn, Maggie
Peterson, the Dillards, James Best etc. Was sad to hear that Jean Carson
(hello doll) could not make the weekend's event do to health. Getting there
early and sitting in the front row, when the news conference started, the room
was quiet, so I broke the silence. We got to talking about the darling
wedding episode and how the darlings snored, lol...and I made the comment that
it was the episode where Ernest T. sang his song. Howard Morris quickly
agreed to do it for us this morning and brought the house down. Maggie
(Charlene) told me later that a funny thing about that episode was that they
only had the ONE wedding dress, worn by both her and Barney, and the funny
thing was it FIT both of them just right, lol. Well, heading back for the hog
roast and dinner with the stars. Hope to see a lot of you there...

the dedication of the Hwy. Since I am only an hour away I would love to
drive up for it. You can email me direct at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There was our beloved Briscoe Darlin' playing a judge

Kevin wrote:

>Where can I buy a collection of TAGS on video?

I'd like to second this question. After Sam's favorable review of the 16
episode Andy DVD a few days ago, I ordered a copy online (after visiting my
local Wal-Marts, Sam's Clubs and Best Buys and not finding it there). I
ordered it second day mail, and drove to the UPS place to get it when it
arrived. I was sooo excited to see some uncut Andy. I slipped it into my DVD
player (which came with my iMAC), and lo and behold I couldn't get it to work.
Grr! Needless to say I was frustrated.
So I figure I need to slake my thirst for uncut episodes with some VHS
tapes, but I couldn't find them at Weaver's.
I'm sure some of you old-timers have already covered this topic, but for
us relative newbies, why are there only 16 episodes in the public domain? I
was under the impression that there was a 70-year period before songs, etc.
made it into the public domain.

Anyway, hope everyone is well,

Jason
