Don't mean to rub it in for those of you that aren't here, but we're (not
sick as a dog) having the time of our life here at Mayberry In the
Midwest...sitting in our hotel room this morning getting ready for the
autograph session this morning and show tonight. Last night was "nice, real
nice" with the dinner, Q&A with the stars and the auction...also got to see
about 5 squad cars plus Rosco P Coltrane's squad car from the Dukes.
Allan/Floyd, David/Barney and Kenneth/Otis were a hoot as well.
Looking forward to the rest of the weekend.
Keith in Nebraska (but temporarily in New Castle, IN this weekend).

WBMUTBB member Dennis Rogers wrote a great column in Saturday's Raleigh News &
Observer that I think everyone would enjoy reading.

I figure that Barney would always be 35, it is kinda the magic of TV.

Did I dream it or didn't TAGS and Gomer Pyle both have episodes dealing with
Barney (by Don Rickles) and Carter (by Herbie Faye) getting ripped off by
traveling salesmen? Also wonder if "No Time For Sargents" was the inspiration
for "Gomer Pyle, USMC"?

Hi, saw your e-mail about Denver Pyle on Gunsmoke. A little off the Andy
subject, but there also was an episode with Forrest Tucker, a drama, but
couldn't take him serious, as he was dressed like his character in F-Troop,
complete with the hat with the turned up bill.

In case some didn't know, if you go to www.mayberryinthemidwest.com there are
several links of interest, including a GREAT one for fans of Ernest T. Bass
that has him saying lines like the poem Old Aunt Moriah! John Skaggs

In response to Jasons questions about the public domain on the TAGS episodes.
The songs used in the episodes and the episodes themselves have completely
different
copyright lengths. Evidently these 16 particular episodes had the copyright
on them lapse without being
renewed. Other people then jumped onto the bandwagon of selling copies of
these episodes while the
copyright was lapsed. However the TAGS music used in the episodes was not
lapsed and thats why
you dont see episodes out there with the correct theme music. Only Columbia
house seems to have
the license to use the correct theme music and If you are interested in TAGS
VHS tapes they are the
way to go for now.

<< Maggie (Charlene) told me later that a funny thing about that episode
was that they only had the ONE wedding dress, worn by both her and Barney,
and the funny thing was it FIT both of them just right, lol. >>
I LOVE this piece of trivia. Knowing this was worth the whole trip, Mike.
Thanks for sharing. That was definitely one of the funniest episodes ever -
especially when Barney informed ETB that he wouldn't marry him if he was the
last man on earth. On this same episode was some of my favorite harmony
singing by those Darlin' boys - "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms". That
Rodney has a high roof to his mouth.
Goober Linda - I couldn't get my big toe in that little ol' wedding dress.

Subject: Floyd's Barber Shop
Date: Sat, 20 Jul 2002 23:05:08 -0400
Just got finished watching tags where Howard buys Floyd's barber shop.
Now I have a question that I can't seem to figure out and was hoping for
some help from the faithful.
Howard wants to earn 5% on his investment. Floyd was paying $50.00 a
month rent. Howard now wants to increase the rent to $65.00 a month, a
30% increase. Now my question is: 5% of $50.00 is only $2.50, so his
rent should be $52.50. They settled for a compromise of $7.50 each so
Floyd is now paying $57.50 a month an increase of a measly 15%. Maybe I
am missing something here with my thinking.
As a side note, I was very fortunate to get my hair cut in Floyd's barber
shop on 2 separate occasions and it was a real treat. I would recommend
it to anyone. I even bought an official Floyd's Barber Shop (2 chair)
T-shirt. I was proud to get my picture with Floyd when he gets out his
instant camera to take the picture because it gets posted on his wall of
fame in the shop.
Thanks to you and yours.
