In defense of enthusiastic fans, I don't believe anyone planned on
ringing Andy's doorbell. Let's not be jumping on one another in assuming
an unsolicited responsibility to protect a celebrity. Andy has done a
fine job in show biz while maintaining his private life without our help.
And there have been examples right here of fans who encountered him on
the street and were treated cordially so I feel strong warnings are
unnecessary and a bit out of line.

A real police car almost always has the type that goes between the driver's
side window and windshield (about 8 or 10 inches above the dashboard), but
this type wasn't used on TAGS. The ones on the show were just
non-functional props which were attached on the outside of the fender; there
was no handle on the inside of the car. We never see the light in
operation, but presumably Andy or Barney would have had to reach out the
window and reposition it by hand to operate it.
When I put my squad car together, I got a spotlight from the local electric
company. I noticed that the lights on all of their trucks were the same
type of light I wanted, so I stopped in to see if they had a spare they
would sell me. Turns out they had one that didn't work (it lit up but
didn't rotate properly) so they just gave it to me for nothing. I had the
guys at the body shop chop off the shaft and mount the light on the fender.
I didn't hook up any wiring (though it would have been fairly simple to
connect) since I was concerned only with looks.

Miss Ellie,
I will be praying for Cindy's mom also, so please know there are others out
here who care.
To Everyone,
My mom is under hospice care now. She is growing weaker and doing less and
less and sleeping more and more each day. Tho I am still her main caregiver, I
get breaks from time to time from friends and family. My sisters are with her
this weekend, so I could come home and see my husband Dave and our daughter
Dana and take care of bills etc. I feel so guilty for leaving her, but I know
Vicki and Cindy will take great care of her. Hospice is supposed to be sending
some home health care workers a few hours next week, and then I have been
blessed by offers from friends and our church family who have offered to help
me out by sitting with Mama. My pastor Bro. Ed Wilson has even taken turns
sitting with her and giving her medicines so I can run to the store, or library
to e-mail all of you. He truly has a shepherd's heart!
My mama told me the other day she was so happy I was able to get my trip to
Mayberry in the Midwest in, before she got sick again. Bless her heart, she
knows how much the show and all of you mean to me.
