Subject: Etch A Sketch

Thanks, Kendra for that info on George Vlosich. Saw him on television
recently, talking to the interviewer AS he drew. Went to his web site
and as you said the picture of the TAGS group was fantastic, especially
when I enlarged it. Seems he found that talent immediately.
When my children were small and had the Etch A Sketch toys I would pick
them up and play around with them, but could never draw anything
worthwhile beyond a house, etc. It's kind of like patting your head and
rubbing your stomach at the same time.
I didn't research George's site thoroughly, he probably would make a
permanent one of the TAGS group for a price. Mary

Subject: Mayberry Days Dinner Raffle
Date: Sun, 11 Aug 2002 09:05:18 -0400

With 3 Mayberry cookbooks available at Weaver's, there is no telling what the
menu will be for the Mayberry Days dinner, but the food will probably be
secondary to the company at dinner that night if you were to win the raffle.
The TAGS guests attending Mayberry Days this year include Betty Lynn, Howard
Morris, Maggie Peterson-Mancuso, Doug Dillard and George Spence (and there is
a possibility of more). This is a great opportunity for every TAGS fan to have
the memory of a lifetime and support the host of the weekend festival, Surry
Arts Council.

TAGSRWC has generously added the Squad Car Cookie Jar (autographed by all the
stars) as another prize in the raffle for a winner who cannot attend the
dinner. An identical autographed cookie jar sold at last year's WBMUTBB
Silent Auction for almost $300, so even if you can't attend Mayberry Days, you
can win an incredible prize.

Either prize is much better than 4 free haircuts or a portable TV, so get your
raffle tickets through
http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/raffle_index.htm or www.surryarts.org
and be the person to tell WBMUTBB exactly what was on the menu - because you
were "right there in it" with Thelma Lou, Ernest T. Bass, Charlene Darling,
Doug Darling, and Frank!

In response to the question about who played the lady who called Ernest T. Bass
a "Creechter," it was in the episode, "My Fair Ernest T. Bass." Mrs. Wiley was
played by Doris Packer. I had not thought about her being Mrs. Rayburn on
"Leave It to Beaver," though. I've pointed it out before, but here it is
again----you can look up ANY character on ANY episode of TAGS by going to
www.mayberry.com and clicking on the "Episode/Character Database" on the right
of the page. Type in any character or actor's real name and you will see every
episode of TAGS they were ever in. And another thought, I think sometimes we
are fascinated with seeing TAGS actors on other TV shows and movies because we
identify them so closely with their TAGS characters. It's kinda like that time
when I was in the third grade and I saw my teacher grocery shopping at the
Piggly Wiggly. I'll never forget thinking, gee, I never realized that TEACHERS
actually had to do things other than teach school! ! ! !

I simply did not report it to insurance when my son
wrecked my car. Since he was on my policy, my rates
would've skyrocketed, on a nine year old car.
Sometimes it's better to 'settle up' outside the
system.

I recently visited Wawa, Ontario, Canada and saw Mr.
McBevee! Hard hat & all, climbimg a tree to work on
phone wires. Wawa is pretty much Mayberryesque. One
main street & no stop light. Marriette's grocery &
outfitters has all you need.

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

On Saturday August 10, Ruta Lee was honored at the 20th annual Golden Boot
Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Speaking of boots,
we, as fans of TAGS, can't forget the famous boots that Sheriff Taylor had to
fill. Additionally, Andy almost got the "boot" from the state's attorney's
office because of Jean Boswell's (Ruta Lee) sensational article in the
Raleigh newspaper. Andy almost got the "boot" from Helen when she discovers
his photo taken with Darlene Mason (Ruta Lee) in 'The Mayberry Gazette.'

* * Earl Bellamy also was honored at the Golden Boots. He wore the director's
boots in 7 episodes of TAGS in the fourth season.

That's exactly the way I feel. Why be in the real world of Andy Griffith and
Don Knotts? The magic is in the show. TAGS trivia is interesting but it can't
replace the magic of actually being a part of Mayberry for a short time.

Hey! I've been away from WBMUTBB for a while, so I apologize if this has been
discussed recently. Now that I'm seeing several different brands of TAGS
episodes on DVD showing up (for a while, it seemed like there was really only
one option), has anyone come across one they recommend, quality-wise?

Thanks!

I feel kinda of afraid to say this but I often
see TAGs characters on other shows of that era.and enjoy them..
I was wondering who the actress was who played
The Lady in the eps.in which E T Bass ruined her her party. The one where
she called him a "creeetcher"
She plays Ms. Rayburn in Leave It to Beaver.
I have seen her in several old movies and find her quite good.
Don't mean to ask the wrong thing. If anyone knows would apprecaite it.
      Thanks , Pandora
and I do live in the real world

Hi, The ladys name is Doris Packer. She also was on The Beverly Hillbillies,
as a socialite with her daughter, who for some reason or another dressed-up
like the hillbillies. She was on a lot of 50's and 60's series. John Skaggs

Does anyone know of a link to the spin-off pilot of TAGS on The Danny Thomas
show? Somewhere I have it on tape, but don't know where. If memory serves me,
the town drunk was Frank Cady, who later was the, "out of town drunk" Otis met
when he got mad at Barney and left town. Then later he brings his buddies with
him to get the Royal treatment in Mayberry. Also Frances Bavier plays a woman
who continues to pay rent on a suit, that her husband was buried in. When
asked why she did it, she says "--he looked so nice!" I remember Danny and
Andy pulling up in front of the court house, but don't remember if it was the
same court house, or a front. Anyone? John

Dear Miz Sally; Yes, their is an ending that has been cut...Andy makes Gomer
and Barney try to sell the salve and the last scene is Barney in the
courthouse trying to recruit Opie and his friends (they walk out the door!)
Finally, Gomer and Barney start out the door with a jar each in their hands
hawking "salve for sale, salve for sale" while Andy looks on
unsympathically...another "Barney" disaster!!! Very funny episode! I used
to sell seeds and greeting cards as a kid. MER aka "Bloody Mary"

There is an epilogue for the Miracle Salve episode. It ends in the Courthouse
with Barney and Gomer and all the boys. The salve is there too, i
think....Anyway, Barney gives them a "football coach" type speech about
selling the salve and winning the pony...Then they all look at each other and
the boys walk out the door on Barney single file.....It leaves you with the
idea that Barney and Gomer may be stuck with selling the stuff...(At least
that's the feeling I got)
