Don't be fooled about the cleverness of the folks on the Digest. We all
just subscribe to the same magazine Barney does. Last month's issue was on
Clever Things to Post On Line. Best quarter I ever spent.

As I watched an episode of "The Waltons" titled "The Gift" today, I
recognized:

--Ron Howard as the guest star, a friend of Jason's who is diagnosed with
leukemia. (I felt that the acting of both Richard Thomas and Ron Howard in
this episode was just outstanding!)

--Rance Howard, Ron's father, as the doctor who diagnoses Ron's character's
disease

--Also, I'm positive that an exterior scene with Ron Howard running along a
lake shore was shot at the same place as the "Myers Lake" scenes in TAGS. It
was kind of weird seeing an all-grown-up "Opie" running along the same paths
he walked with Andy!

--And, of course, "Hubcaps" Lesch as Grandma Walton.

This trained noticin' thing is getting BIG!

To everyone who's going to Mayberry Days: Have a terrific time and a safe
trip!

John Constantine Unitas, the greatest ever, 'nuff
said.....

Could someone please explain how TVLand just started
showing the classic TAGS, and they're already into
shows from '62? Why don't they show them all? They
certainly show episodes 160-249 completely, but don't
show 1-159 lately. Is there a contract stating that
per year they are only authorized so many viewings of
each show, for residual payments, and if stations like
KTLA or local stations show them, that counts against
the amount of viewings that TVLand can show? They
used to run the b&w's chronologically, but now seem to
miss many episodes, until they hit 160. Thanks for
any input.

Sadly, another link to my childhood has passed. I've been a football fan all
my life and Johnny Unitas of the Baltimore Colts, in my opinion was one of
the top 2 or 3 quarterbacks ever.

Unfortunately, Johnny U ended his career as a San Diego Charger, which, in my
opinion is roughly the equivalent of Don Knotts going to "Three's Company".
I say this even though I lived in the San Diego area for over 20 years and
rooted for the Chargers.

One question: Am I mistaken, or was Johnny Unitas also mentioned in the
episode where Opie is torn between playing football (quarterback) and taking
piano lessons???

Hey to Goober!!!

P.S. Congrats to "Johnny Paul" -- my birthday is also June 1st!!!

Last nights UPN episode of Bonanza featured a power
crazed Sheriff. His side-kick was the eternally
incompetent Deputy. The Sheriff's name was ASA!

Of course he was not only different personality-wise
from our Asa, he had a screw in his gun.

< Only thing: they didn't get out of the squad car, they got out of a blue
Dodge station wagon,
one they never used on TAGS, so I guess we can assume it was rented or
something.>

I always assumed the reason they were driving a Dodge in that particular
episode was because
it was a Gomer episode, instead of TAGS. Almost everyone on Gomer's show
drove Dodges
while most people on TAGS drove Fords - I'm sure it was a sponsorship thing.

Subject: Pop in Mayberry
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I just read the interesting article on AOL about the nation wide survey that
was done over the past eight years regarding the use of 'pop' or 'soda' when
referring to a soft drink. According to the findings, people in the South
overwhelmingly use the term soda over pop. However, in all the episodes of
TAGS the term pop is used by Andy, Barney, Opie, Floyd, Goober and all others
in Mayberry who drink softdrinks. So I guess that shows that the writers
were obviously not native to the southern USA.
Here in Wisconsin, I grew up with pop. When I heard the word soda, I thought
of that nasty tasting bicarbonate soda my mom forced down me when I had an
upset stomach. Now I think I will walk down to the drug store and have me a
pop.
