Hi everyone,
If there is anyone out there that has an unedited copy "Goober and the art
of Love"? I would like to get a VHS or DVD copy of it. Please write me and
let me know what you would want for it.
Thanks,
Wayne McBrayer

Subject: The Howard boys in the news/ Harvey Bullock at Mayberry Days

Just saw Ron Howard on an interview with regard to the fact that his movie,
Apollo 13, has been copied/produced into IMAX format and is being released
to IMAX theatres. Congrats Ron.
Saw Clint also on an interview talking about his past bouts with alcohol
abuse. He credits his brother Ron, in part, for helping him get his life
straitened out. (see, that experience with Otis having a snoot-full paid
off for Opie after all).
I am truly jealous of all of you who will be attending Mayberry Days. I
have had the pleasure of seeing some of the stars at other events, but I
would love to sit and listen to one of my writing heroes, Harvey Bullock. I
believe the creativity of the writers had as much to do with TAGS success as
the fine actors who appeared on screen. It would be like sitting on Andy's
porch with old friends, just to listen to his thoughts.
Mr. Bullock if you are reading, please know that for every fan who is able
to be there and applaud you, there are dozens of us out here who would like
to be there with them joining the ovation. We would love to hear your
insights and experiences regarding the show. Please travel well and have an
enjoyable time.
My cousin Goober may be ugly, but he ain't stupid

One of my favorite quotes is from Silent Cal. He said:
"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not;
nothing is more common that unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not;
unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is
full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are
omnipotent."
For someone who didn't talk much, he sure had a lot to say.

It seems very curious that Frances Bavier would move to a small town in her
later years if she was used to New York and had more of a "big city"
mentality. Did she have relatives or friends there? Does anyone know why
she moved to Siler City?

Subject: Mayberry Days Update
Date: Tue, 17 Sep 2002 23:59:58 -0400
Some more news from the Surry Arts Council about Mayberry Days. The Mayberry
Confidential can now be downloaded from their website www.surryarts.org. It
has the final schedule of events, stories, photos, SAC event information and
all the sponsors and supporters of the festival. The newspaper will be
available at locations throughout Mount Airy, but I was fortunate to get the
.pdf files for those who are unable to attend or want to have something to
help plan their weekend as they're driving to Mount Airy.
Don't miss the feature article on WBMUTBB member and Greensboro artist Mike
Johnson, who designed another great t-shirt for 2002 (It's a big moulage!).
There are also photos of many other WBMUTBB members and another outstanding
article from "Presiding Goober" Jim Clark of TAGSRWC.
Another change for 2002 involves Professor Brower's Lecture. General Admission
tickets will be required this year and can be purchased at any time during the
weekend at a cost of $2. Don't miss the opportunity to hear WBMUTBB member and
TAGS writer extraordinaire, Harvey Bullock shares stories and memories from
our favorite show. Neal Brower, author of Mayberry 101, is scheduled to have a
book signing with Mr. Bullock on Friday morning at the Main-Oak Emporium
(right before the Mayor's Proclamation). The Lecture is Saturday from 3:00 -
4:30 pm in the Downtown Cinema Theatre. Tickets are available at Information
Table in front of the Andy Griffith Playhouse.
Professor Brower's Lecture is one of my favorite events during Mayberry Days.
This year will be extra special having Mr. Bullock as his guest.

Subject: New Barney fan
I had an experience today that was absolutely hilarious, and I thought I'd share
it with all you TAGS fans. I am a teacher in a school that has a preschool
class, and we have a dressup area where the kids can be a fireman, policeman,
doctor, construction worker, etc. Well, a little 3 year old in the class loves
the police outfit and puts it on about everyday. The teacher and the aide in
this class both like TAGS and know that I do too, so they put this little boy up
to putting on the outfit and saying that his name was Barney! I went to help
him
put on the jacket today and then he put on the hat and announced, "I Barney!"
(Then he promptly fell down- as if he had been accosted by one of the Fun Girls,
or maybe he had got into the mulberry squeezin's again?!) It was so cute! I
doubt that he has ever seen TAGS, but I think as he grows up, maybe he'll be a
fan of Barney and the whole TAGS crew!

Well, the mysterious squad car that has been seen around Mauldin, SC has
appeared again. There is a local festival, MauldinFest, this weekend and
there is some promotional stuff at the entrance to the park where it will be
held. Sitting right at the edge of the road is the squad car. Maybe this
weekend I can find out something about it at the festival.
