We just returned from Mayberry Days........what a wonderful day we had! We
got there to see the parade and then went to the autograph sessions. I was
truly amazed at how humble Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou) is........everyone
(including myself) telling her how much we enjoyed her work in TAGS and she
truly seemed embarrassed at all the attention. Likewise, Maggie Peterson
(Charlene) was very appreciative of our adoration and took time to speak at
length to each person. My husband bragged all day long because she hugged
him twice during the day. My husband stood in line to get Howard Morris'
(Ernest T) autograph while I was waiting in line for Thelma Lou's, so I
didn't actually get to talk to him.
David Browning as Barney Fife was absolutely delightful. He spent quite a
bit of time at our end of the parade speaking with and having his picture
taken with anyone that would ask. He showed us his bullet that was in his
pocket. He joked and had everyone in stitches. It was an honor to also
get his autograph.
We also took the train tour of Mt. Airy, which was great fun. On our way
out of town, after visiting the shops on Main Street and having lunch at
the Emporium, we drove by Andy Griffith's childhood home.
I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight after all the excitement of
today! Can't wait to get my autographed pictures framed and hung on the
walls. I hope everyone else that attended Mayberry Days had as much fun as
we did. I can't wait til next year.

You're as right as rain, he said "Abyssinia", meaning "I'll be seeing you." So,
the only correct reply would also need to be geographic in nature, "See ya
Samoa", meaning "See you some more."
Just a couple of good examples of the play on words type of fun we used to
have. (I had an uncle who knew - and regularly shared - some that were what we
called "real groaners").

Hi Everyone,
I just got home from Mount Airy & I hope everyone had as great a time as I
did!! Wasn't Betty Lynn the sweetest thing? I asked her about old Barn & she
said she still sees him now & then. Mount Airy was just beautiful, as always.
And old Ernest T. was his usual crazy self! I'm going back on Oct. 16th.
Anyone Else going????
And thanks again to you guys who e-mailed me about Mooresville, NC (where my
son will be going to school.) We stopped there on the way to Mount Airy &
looked around. You guys were right, it's looks like a great place (and only
one hour from Mount Airy!!). We went inside the Nascar Technical Institute &
it just looked like a great place to go to school so I was real pleased.
By the way, if you guys go to Mount Airy, the new Microtel Suites were
gorgeous!
Lots of Luck to you & yours!
