Hello Friends, Neighbors, Fellow Citizens Honored Guests and Ladies of the
Historical Society,
I thought of an interesting trivia question. I don't know the complete
answer but maybe we can figure it out together:
How many times (and name them) did Barney surprise Andy, at Andy's home?
I can think of three or four off-hand, but there are probably more. (hint,
usually he had help).
Keep those Mayberry Days stories coming. Can anyone share a Harvey Bullock
quote? I was just curious what our favorite esteemed writer had to say??
Watching the news about the hurricane, I see Lake Charles Louisiana
mentioned in the Danger Zone. Do you suppose Uncle Ollie and Aunt Nora and
the boys are headed to Mayberry for shelter??? Don't forget to turn off the
gas and the radio Ollie! And for goodness sake Nora, pack Ollie's
goose-down pilla. If not, he'll whine like Floyd's transmission in 2nd
gear. Better pack up your valuables and bring them in that Bakery truck
too. That way Andy will get a chance to test drive it, and your stuff will
be safe as well! Don't bring Racine though, Andy's not interested.

I have a good friend in Lexington,N.C. & he says that the
annual barbecue festival is just about the greatest event
know to man. And with Goober being there...wow!
(he's ugly,but he ain't stupid!)

Borrowing Pat & Neil Coleman's Chapter name, "Remembering Mayberry" I'll
share a "Remembering Mayberry Days" with some of my highlights of the
festival:
- Getting together with friends who I now consider family
- Watching David Browning perform - any time, any place
- Getting a smile and hug from Maggie & Betty
- Listening in awe as Maggie's sister Phyllis played the piano
- Getting all the help with the Silent Auction
- Visiting with Doug Dillard
- Watching in amazement as Pat got EVERY trivia question correct
- The good feeling of knowing the answer to a trivia question (especially
this year!)
- Seeing Phil Lee on stage again
- Watching Michael Hoover's backup singers
- Seeing the reaction of the winner of the Dinner Raffle
- How good it feels to sit down for a moment
- Getting a photo of Greg Barkely & Harvey Bullock with the birdhouse
- Seeing the latest at the Andy Griffith Museum and hearing stories from
Emmett Forrest
- Having to correct folks who think I am Jim Clark (only 4 times this year)
- Hearing the TAGSRWC Chapter reports
- Adding to Ginger Boatwright's TAGSRWC quilt with a chapter t-shirt
- Being around people who understand and laugh when they hear a TAGS
reference
- Listening to Allan sing and realizing just how good he is
My favorite event has always been Professor Browers Lecture and it was extra
special this year having Harvey Bullock there. It was an honor to meet him
and a treat to visit with his lovely wife.
Mayberry Days is always a great weekend for lots of reasons, but seeing
friends again is what makes it such a special time for me. Only 350-odd days
to go till next year (and fortunately we've got other events to enjoy
between now and then)!

I would like to add my part of the MayberryDays celebration comments, and the
celebration this year was attended by more people than I had seen in the 5
years I have been going. Even though it rained on us Friday, it was welcome
as it has been severe drought conditions in the area for some time. Saturday
broke out clear as a bell, no clouds to be seen, and the temperatures were
wonderfully comfortable.
I was able to talk a little with Howard Morris, after finding out he too was
stationed on Midway Island. When I mentioned this to the Midway discussion
group, someone forwarded me a photo of the old SAR(Search And Rescue) hangar
with a great number of window panes broken out of it, so I guess that proves
he was there as Ernest T Bass!! Anyone know what the T stood for?
The parade moved along right on schedule, but was not as long as before but
still great. I missed the hillbilly trucks and the Temple "hot rods" running
around this time. I also stopped at the PO and got my supply of Mayberry Days
postmarks.
Col. Tim's Talent Time was absolutely great! Elvis Michael Hoover had only
one spot this time but it was a fantastic show as usual. And Paul Gustaffson
was his usual hilarious self with his routine. I did miss seeing Allan do his
"yellow bandana" trick this year also.
The great highlight for this year was the skit between David "Barney"
Browining and "Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane." He is such a great actor, in drama
as well as comedy, which he is best suited for!! Just my opinion!
We already have tickets for next year's show and are in the process of
getting room reservations for that time also. Maybe the rain will hold off
next year and we can have a gathering of the WBMUTBB chapter after the trivia
contest.
Welford m. Sims aka theCameraNut jr. Jr.?? Yep, Allan's wife Jan has put me
to shame so I have to take the second spot!!

Hey folks,
It's that time of year again....time for old man Remshaw to pop his eyes out
and look at us here in Mayberry. Be sure to drop by the Mayberry.com web
site (http://mayberry.com/) and check out the Remshaw place.
You'll want to make plans to create a Barn-O-Lantern or maybe a Goober, Floyd
or Opie-O-Lantern. Thanks to Mr. Trivia, Paul Mulik, for the wonderful
patterns for the pumpkin carvings. Drop by the Remshaw place and see
'em...but be careful...it feels like Remshaw's eyes are always
watching.......
