Re: Harvey Bullock / Mayberry Days
It was wonderful being back in my hometown for Mayberry Days. The kind
words from those that had read my book were really wonderful to hear. I
too, add to my family all those great TAGS fans.
Professor Brower's Lectures are a favorite of mine and his
behind-the-scenes discussion with Harvey Bullock was very interesting!
It sent chills down my back when Harvey explained that he feels that the
last, wonderful lines from "Opie, the Birdman" weren't really written by
him.
As he told it, he didn't know how to end the episode, when all of a sudden
he felt his fingers typing those wonderful words about the cage being so
empty and the trees being so full.
As Mr. Bullock put it, "I'd give credit to the one that wrote those lines -
if only I knew who he was."
Looking forward to seeing everyone next year at "Mayberry Days!"

If there is anyone out there that has any extra pieces (Buildings, figures,
School Bus, Squad Car, Etc.) that The Hawthorne Company made and discontinued
making a few years ago ( of the Mayberry Set) , please contact me if you are
willing to sell. Thanks and "Goober says Hi!"

Joe Gritton asked for some Harvey Bullock stories ...
Let me say Mr. Bullock is as funny in person as his writing is on the show! I
was fortunate enough to get to spend a few minutes with him and his wife over
the weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I confessed my
favorite episode is the Pickle Story, and he shared the story behind kerosene
cucumbers. If I recall correctly, it was his mother-in-law who tasted his
wife's salad dressing and blurted out how it tasted like kerosene one day. He
filed that away, and used it later, much to our delight! We also discussed
how another writer came up with getting Barney's folks a septic tank for
their anniversary (again .. another TRUE story)!!
Mr. Bullock is truly a gentleman, and Mrs. Bullock is lovely. They were nice
people, very family oriented and gosh! I could go on and on! I was honored to
meet them both.
And overall, I'm like Jeff Koontz, Greg Barkley (you crazy owl you!) and the
rest of the folks who consider Mayberry Days like a family Homecoming, a
second Christmas and anticipated celebration every year. I have made friends
with so many of you over the years, and truly count my blessings to have
every one of you in my life. Thank you for sharing your smiles, your laughs,
your hands in friendship. For those of you who attended Mayberry Days in
spirit if not body, we felt your presence too.
A special hooty-whoo of praise to David, Allen, Phil Fox, Phil Lee, Kenneth
Junkin and the rest of you who do double duty as characters. The Soggy Barney
Boys and Pink Floyd were too much!!! Thanks to Neil Brower who always brings
special insight into the show, and made my Mayberry Day weekend by
coordinating Harvey Bullock's appearance. To all of you in Mount Airy --
Tanya, Brack, Ann, Emmett and all the rest -- thanks for making your town a
second home to us all. Hey to my vendor buddies, who always have a smile for
me between customers, and to my Barney chapter pals, who I met at my first
Mayberry Days more than a decade ago and have taken me in as one of their
own. :) And I can't forget one very special person who made the weekend
better than ever just by being there with me: Wayne .. you're the best! :)
I'm ready for next year! who's with me?!?! :)
