Hey all,

In regards to the recent interest in having the TAGS theme as your ringtone on
the cell phone, I thought I'd share some information that is just as fun since
you might not have the right model of phone.

I'm pretty sure that all of the cell phones out there have voice mail now
where you can record your own greeting. I went to the "Them Timers Are
Tricky" website for the wav files. Then I saved the wav of ol' Barn answering
the phone at the courthouse....It's classic.

The wav file consists of "Mayberry courthouse, town headquarters, Andy Taylor
Sheriff, Deputy Barney Fife here, hello???"

Theres a bit of laughter and some phone ringing at the beginning, so I paused
it right before Barn starts to speak.

Then for my voice mail, I just played that wav file by holding my cell phone
up to the speaker on my computer. It came out GREAT. Y'all ought to try it
out.

Lots of luck to you and yers....

Wasn't it some guy named Jeff and not Rafe Hollister that picked up the girls
on the corner looking for a wife?? He settled on Bertha. Rafe Hollister was
the one picked to sing the solo at the musicale.

Actually, it was Jeff Pruitt, played by Alan Hale, who went on to fame as the
Skipper on Gilligan's Island, the farmer who came into Mayberry to look for a
wife.

I found it interesting that he referred to Barney as "Little Buddy", which
the Skipper would often refer to Gilligan later on.

Rafe Hollister was married. It was big old Jeff Pruitt who came to Mayberry
picking up girls. Don't forget that Mr. Schwump wasn't married, or if he was
he sure didn't take his wife anywhere. Frank Myers was a bachelor and even
Floyd was unmarried in later episodes when he became a widower. Don't forget
Fred Goss who almost nabbed Aunt Bea. I am sure there are many other
bachelors if we really looked around Mayberry.

Last nights T.V. Land episode of The Andy Griffth Show featured Jerry Van
Dyke. Right after he is led across the street to be met by Andy, I noticed
that behind them there is a man on a stool facing a counter with a napkin
holder, and another man behind the counter. Just curious as to what this
business might be?

Thanks in advance ,

Neal

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but a group called Rascal Flatts has a
new CD coming out and one of the songs is titled "Mayberry". It's being
released on October 29. Might be worth a listen.

No, that wasn't Rafe, I think his name was Jeff Pruett, and he was played by
Alan
Hale, Jr. Maybe Rafe was unmarried, though- I'm not sure. Floyd was single for
at least some episodes, although he mentioned having a son at one time. I guess
maybe he was a widower.

Hey Folks,

I've added the Trivia questions from 2000, 2001 and (thanks to Jeff Koontz)
2002 to the TAGSRWC web site at Mayberry.com. Go to http://mayberry.com/ and
click the "Past Events" link. From there..you'll see the trivia questions
(and answers) if you scroll down just a bit.

I'm trying to get reports together for the 2000 and 2001 (and this years)
Mayberry Days so I can get 'em online as well. SOMEDAY...I'll get caught up
and be able to get it all done. :-)

Actually, it was NOT Rafe Hollister who was the bachelor who came down from the
mountains looking for a wife and who stood on the corner picking up girls, and
who settled on Thelma Lou. It was Big Jeff Pruitt in Episode 45, "The Farmer
Takes a Wife." The part was played by Alan Hale, Jr., who would later play the
memorable role of the Skipper on "Gilligan's Island."

I seem to recall was it, Rafe Hollister, who came to town, trying to
find a wife by picking up the women & seeing how heavy they were? He
naturally settled on Thelma Lou.

>>>I think that was Jeff Pruitt.

I was reading about the Desi Arnaz Orchestra and how the band sort of fell
apart when Desi moved on to TV, but it did have a footnote about the
musicians hung around Desilu for some time picking up extra and bit parts in
shows and they listed TAGS. I wonder if they ended up in the Mayberry band?
That would explain a lot especially how bad they sounded on Stars and
Stripes............now, if they were playing Babalu.................

Hey Folks,

I'm off to Mt. Airy later today for the Dedication of the Parkway. I'm
heading up with some of "The Hardy Eatin' Men and Beautiful Delicate Women"
Chapter members. I hope to see some of you there as I know several of you
are attending.

Just a note so everybody realizes...Andy is NOT going to be signing
autographs and I doubt very much that he'll be doing too much other than
being there on the stage so we can get pictures of him. That's plenty for me
but I just don't want folks being disapointed.

I hope we'll be able to meet up on the street or somewhere while I'm in Mt.
Airy but I'm at the mercy of the friends I'm riding up with. Have a safe
trip!!!
