Paul,
I seem to remember hearing Barney clearly on the other end of a telephone
conversation with Andy when he was so upset during his time a s a real
estate agent.
Also, just had to share what happened this past weekend with my nine-year
old son. We recently moved and in the process I came across some old video
tapes of TAGS. I started watching one of the tapes and it had both B&W and
color episodes on it. I have never bad-mouthed the color episodes in front
of my son but when one of them came on he said, and I quote, "Dad, put the
gray ones back on. I like the gray ones the best."
"No thanks, ma'am, three cuts of pie is my high water mark."

Don't forget that when Barney thought he was the
descendent of a Revolutionary war hero, he suggested to
Andy that his name was Bernard "Tibbs" Fife, to which
Andy responded "I thought your middle name was "Oliver"
and Barney said "...well, there's a Tibbs in there
someplace". So, it's a stretch but we could add "Tibbs"
to Oliver, P. and Milton as Barney's middle name.
Andy: "They had all this down at the library?"
Barney: "Just the first part... I deduced the rest".

Hello friends and neighbors.
Just thought I'd relate my TAGS moment for the day that got me started off
right. We've been having a hard time with getting our Kindergartner to go to
school. Ever since the last of August, it's been a struggle to get him to
overcome his fears of school. Crying in the evenings before bed, dreading the
next morning. Waking up crying first thing in the morning dreading the day.
It just flat wore us out and broke our heart. He's been slowly getting
better, and we've been having to stay firm. But then this morning, he went in
HAPPY! Of course, that made ME happy too, and musical praises started going
through my head. The first one was, "Praise God from Whom all blessings
flow..." and then the old Roy Acuff song about the night train to Memphis
came to mind (Hallelujah! Hallelujah!) But the one that caught me off guard
was when the thought of Barney and his cymbals came into my head.....I could
just envision my wife asking me how our son did going in today, and I'd
respond with....."I'll say it with music! Brrrrupppm, brrrruuumpp,..." and
then I'd break into The Star Spangled Banner and go marching trough the house
banging my cymbals. But I don't have any cymbals, so I might have to use pot
lids. Anyhoo, I guess the other parents must have thought I was a little
loopy when they passed me on the sidewalk, and me a grinning like a mule
eating briars!
Here's hoping you all are having as good a day as I'm having.
Kindest regards,
Mark Selby.

Hey, next time anybody sees Laura Lee Hobbs, ask her what time that gold
truck is coming through. Regis wants me to carry a sign for him, but I'm
not sure what time I need to be at the court house. Sure hope it doesn't
rain.

I just watched this episode on Saturday (on tape, as our local station runs
it at 4am!). It contains one of my two all-time favorite TAGS lines: "Your
haircut may be city-style, but your heart was shaped in a bowl."
And don't forget: "We're known as a family of hearty-eatin' men and
beautiful delicate women".
Plus three different songs by the Darlings/Dillards, including "Dueling
Banjos".
Lots of luck to you and yours,

Regarding Mrs. Chapmans reference to Mr. Tucker wanting to use the phone,
but couldn't due to the "Morrison" sisters, was wrong. It was the
"Mendelbright" sisters, Maude and Cora. Cora lived in Mt.Pilot. They
talked every Sunday about Cora's feet falling asleep. The "Morrison"
sisters, Jenny and Clarabelle lived in Mayberry and were moonshiners. They
would have no need to talk on the phone because they lived together.
Sorry Jenny, I'm a stickler for detail.......

Regarding Mr. Steven's reference of hearing Andy on the phone with Barney
when Ernest T. Bass broke out of jail; it was the "Ernest T. joins the Army"
episode and not "Ernest T. Gets an Education; Andy and Barn arrested Ernest
T. outside of the jail the evening he had made his way around town breaking
windows. He was mad at Andy and Barney for getting kicked out when
regestering for the Army,(wanting only a uniform) He broke out the next
morning, (having breakfast at the diner) Barney took him back to the jail
and then called Andy....They never knew figured out how he broke out.
Episode ended with Barney finding a key while cleaning up the cell after
E.T. finding a key, thinking it was E.T. pass key, but wasn't. This ending
is on the "trailer" only.
This is the second of 5 episodes with E.T. First, "Mountain Wedding" (wanted
to marry Charlene Darlin), Third episode was "My Fair Ernest T." (Mrs.
Wiley's), Fourth, was his Education and the last fighting Malcolm
Merriweather for the school crossing job, (Ramona insisting that he work)

Hey all,
I thought of another example of someone speaking over the phone, in Otis
Buys A Car we can hear Barney's voice talking to Andy over the phone when he
calls with his progress report on Otis.
So so far that makes

Good observation and question Paul, but Bob's right, that turned out to be
an easy question. (and more correct answers than I thought) I do think its
interesting that sometimes you just see, and hear one end of the phone
conversation, but other times they show both. Maybe its related to the
"Sarah" mystery, since we never see or hear her (same with Juanita). Most
of the times they call from the courthouse, you don't hear the other end.
Exceptions right off hand are..when Opie calls Helen and reads a love poem,
and when Andy calls the other sheriff about Mr. Wheeler, when the Governor
calls etc.
Have you noticed how some of the proposed marriages in Mayberry always have
some weird dowry? With Andelina Walsh is was a house with no roof, on the
side of a hill with some boulders and a cow. In Barney's story about the
father of the "beasto mareasto", the dowry included a third interest in a
prune pitting operation and use of the company car. Aunt Nora's friend
Racine, whom she tried to fix up with Andy, came with a Bakery truck "with
the original paint" That must have been common traditional practice that
one of the writers recalled.
Any more phone trivia?

Subject: Barney Fife, Realtor:Dabbs Greer, Character Actor
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Yesterday's WBMUTBB Digest had the majority of its submissions dealing with
'Barney Fife, Realtor' in response to Paul's trivia question. That episode
featured two of the most prolific character actors in television, Dabbs Greer
and Amzie Strickland. Dabbs Greer's resume makes one's eyes open wide and jaw
drop to the proverbial floor. We later see Amzie in color as part of the
Ladies Auxilary in 'The Bazaar.' Her acting resume is impressive too. Maybe
she didn't want to buy the Taylor house because of her bad experience on
Maple Street in 'The Twilight Zone.' Nevertheless, those Kelogg's Corn Pops
have served her well.
