Will somebody tell Barney I saw Gilley Walker doing 45 out on Turner's
Grade? All that boy does is speed, speed, speed.

Subject: Paul's trivia
Date: Wed, 30 Oct 2002 08:16:18 -0500
In Paul's latest "trivia time" I have a few answers.
1. In which episode is Andy said to be dressed for
trick-or-treating?-----Don't remember the episode number right off the top of
my head but its when Inspector Case comes to Mayberry and Opie brings Andy the
goofy hat and tie.
2. In which episode is Opie said to be dressed for trick-or-treating?----I'll
have to research that one
3. In which two episodes is Barney said to be dressed for
trick-or-treating?----One is when Barney dresses up like Mrs. McGruder's
cousin (and tries to rob the bank), again I don't remember the episode number.
The other one I'll have to research.
4. What is Goober's special job as a deputy each year on Halloween
night?----To guard the cannon to keep kids from putting banana peels, grapes,
etc. down the barrel.
5. What object is a Mayberry ghost said to be continually searching
for?----His Golden Arm?
6. Whose spirit was said to be present in the back room of the
courthouse?----Count Itz Van Telecky <sp?>
7. Who is said to have "witchery" in his family?----Andy....just a little on
his momma's side
8. Whom did Barney once arrest on Halloween, and what was the
offense?-----Don't remember the name right off hand (I think it was some
"teenage boys") but it was for ringing door bells.
9. Whose ghost allegedly terrorizes Mayberryites with an axe?----Old Man
Rimshaw
10. If the hot dog vendor in the gold truck episode discarded all of the
meat out of his last frankfurter, what would he be left with?----That's a real
good question

Thanks for the plug for The Mayberry Mania Game. I too encourage you to
purchase from Weavers. Alan, Jim, Paul, Jeff and others have been most
helpful as we struggled to get the game out. I guarantee you will like it
better than the original TAGS game. TV land endorsed ours over the "old
game" because they feel it is a superior product. That is why their logo is
on the game box.

Subject: Triple
I was watching some old videos of TAGS today and believe I stumbled across a
classic triple. It was the episode where the FBI man and photographer come to
town to celebrate Mayberry being crime free. They actually want to rob the
bank. Anyway, Andy was protesting that he couldn't take any credit for the
town being crime free and Mayor Pike said that one word that characterized Andy
was modest. After Andy left for the barbershop, Barney started a speech to the
"FBI" man with the phrase, Yeah, one word that describes us is modest. He then
launched into a grand speech of all the wonderful things the Mayberry sheriff's
department accomplishes with raw courage, etc. When he winds up his speech
with that's the way we are the FBI man deadpans, "modest".
Another triple(?) involves Barney ranting about a young gang of hoodlums,
telling Andy to nip it in the bud. After saying that a couple of times he asks
Andy,"Do you know what I would do?" Andy replies, "Nip it?" Barney says, "In
the bud."

Subject: Halloween Reference
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
People have been mentioning Halloween references and I just remembered one.
In the episode, "Stranger in Town." Ed Sawyer was spooking everybody because
he knew so much about them. He was after Lucy Matthews and Barney was looking
for a reason to bring him in. I'm not sure if the following conversation is
strictly verbatim, but it is pretty close.
Barney: Ain't ya gonna arrest him?
Andy: Watcha want me to arrest him for?
Barney: What for? For ringing her door bell!
Andy: You can't arrest him for ringing her door bell!
Barney: You can't? Last Halloween I ran three twelve-year-old
boys in, and he don't even have the excuse of
trick-or-treat!

Hey thanks for the Halloween quiz, Paul. I'm workin' on it but stuck on 1
or 2.
I'll just reveal my answer on the last one about the hot dog vendor
discarding all the meat out of his last frankfurter, what would he be left
with.
Nothing but the Ice! How do you like that, Vicki Harms! Oops I
mean a Hollow wiener. That's a good one.
You forgot one question. Who see bats when they oughta see butterflies?
And what (according to Mayberry folklore) happens if bats land in your hair?
Hey, I was watching for more "phone" details, and noticed another hair
editing snafu. We all know about Barney's hair going from messed up to
combed a few times during his recitation of the preamble to the
constitution...but have you noticed in the cow-riding, Barney psychologist
episode that when Barney is talking on the phone to Otis from his bed, his
hair is messed up...but a moment later he is still in bed, but talking to
Andy on the phone and his hair is combed.
Thanks for all the responses on catchphrases, triples etc. Some of the other
techniques I was going to reference from that book are a little more
obscure, so I think I'll let that topic go for now.
Hey I heard a good one for any of you Barbers out there...or anyone who
plays a Barber on TV...or anyone who plays a Barber on TV live at Mayberry
Reunion events in honor of that Barber on TV...(hint hint)
(Andy and Floyd are on the Bench outside the Barbershop and Goober walks
up.)
Andy: Hey Floyd, didn't you say that you had a friend that just does Mohawk
hair cuts.
Floyd: Yes, that's right Andy..he just does Mohawks, that's what I said
alright.
That's a waste of a good razor if you ask me.
Goober, Yeah what kind of Barber is that if he don't do regular haircuts?
Floyd: Oh noooo, he's not a Barber at all, he's not a real Barber...he just
cuts a little hair on the side (Floyd and Andy burst out laughing) Mohawk
hair cuts, he just cuts a little on the side! Don't you get it Goober?
Have a happy and safe Halloween and keep your orange peelings out of town
landmarks.

I been sitting here watching the Pickle episode, and I noticed something that
I'm sure I've seen before, but didn't think about it. When Andy and Barney
are switching Aunt Bea's pickles from her mason jars to the store bought
jars, and vice verce, they would have put Aunt Bea's pickles in the store
bought jars, but when Barney is giving a jar to that guy from Oregon, the jar
he gave him was a mason jar like Aunt Bea's pickles were in. Did they put
the store jars in the cabinet? Aunt Bea surely would have noticed that.

It appears you're still a bit mixed up. Barney auditioned with "The
National Emblem" by E. E. Bagley, probably the best-known patriotic march
not written by Sousa. The Mayberry Band does play "The Stars and Stripes
Forever" but that's a different scene from the same episode.

Wondering if someone can give me some help to a question or direct me to
someone who can help me. I have the COMPLETE Mayberry Hawthorne Village set
including all buildings, figurines and all accessories. I would like to find
out what the current value of the complete collection would be for insurance
purposes. Just wondering if anyone would know this or would know of someone
who would be able to give me an appraisal.

In the episode, "Opie's Hobo Friend" or "Opie and the Hobo" (I am not exactly
sure what the title is, but anyhoo...), right before Andy releases Mr.Dave
from prison at the end of the episode, we hear a train whistle. I don't ever
recall hearing that whistle on any other episode. Does anyone else?

Baldwin replaced?

Seems like in Mayor Stoner's first (?) episode, he called the courthouse to
find out where Andy was, and angrily told Barney that Andy was late for their
meeting. Barney nervously covered for Andy by telling the mayor that he had
left for the meeting some time ago.

Many years ago, I remember Paul Harvey talking about a new telephone
innovation whereby someone who was impaired and unable to dial the phone
could speak into the receiver saying who they wanted to talk to, and
that person would be dialed automatically. Paul said that was not so
new: "Isn't that how it used to work with Sarah on the Andy Griffith
Show??!!"
