Howdy beloved!
Happy Monday. Hey Shannon, I too am glad to see ANYTHING about North
Carolina...what a great state it is! (Even though I live in Virginia, which
is great too...North Carolina is a wonderful place...from the mountains to the
sea, as it were) and Laverne, I was thainkin too 'bout Mizz Bendlemrite and
them 40 watt bulbs too...I wonder if she was tryin' to save money to invest in
more mushroom beds or maybe recoup her tire shredder machine investment...we
were watchin' that eppiesode the other night (bout ole Barn gettin' the
boot...A) a man moves into town...2)he has NO job.....and C) he wants to marry
mrs. Bendlemrite...bless her heart! and the Missus wondered why ole Barn
didn't spring for a room at the hotel; rather than bunkin' at the court house;
but even the $1.75 a night room over at the hotel might've been a little steep
for Barn...(TWICE what he was payin' at the boarding house!) him workin' on
his nest egg; I mean after all, he spent all that money on the septic tank for
his folks...as my Mom used to say..."he's just conservative" hahahha.
Bless thee
the everthinnin' fatman

I hope everyone knows that Alan Jackson is a big TAGS fan.
On Sunday while reading the USA Weekend article about Alan, he mentioned
The Andy Griffith Show.
Alan said that Andy reminded him of his Dad, Eugene Jackson.
If you go to the website below you can read the whole article.

>>> in Thursdays Charlotte Observer ( Charlotte NC ) there was a political
cartoon ... of President Bush as Andy , Condelezza
Rice as Barney , Donald Rumsfeld as Floyd , and Dick Chaney as Goober ....
That same cartoon appeared in the Springfield (Missouri) News-Leader paper
on Saturday. The "fine print" identified it as being from the Charlotte
Observer.
Don't forget, Tuesday is election day. I hope Otis gets out of jail in time
to vote.

>Here is a question I have always been curious about. In the episode the Cow
>Thief, when Andy and Barney notice Luke (Jensen)sp? (you think he is related
>to Mr.. O'Malley?) that's not my question, me real question is when Barney
>sees Luke he says "Yep, bad penny's back." or something like that.
It was a phrase from "the old country"
BAD PENNY -- The phrase usually is heard in this country (U.S.) as A
bad penny always turns up, meaning that a no-good person can be counted
upon to come back again and again. The expression was originally English
and the unit of currency referred to was the shilling. Sir Walter Scott,
in one of his early nineteenth-century novels, whereto: Bring back
Darsie? Little doubt of that. The bad shilling is sure enough to come
back again. From Morris Dictionary of Word and Phrase Origins by
William and Mary Morris (HarperCollins, New York, 1977, 1988).

I was making a run to deliver a load of Nectarine Smash down to New Iberia,
LA and I happened to go through Lake Charles. You know, Uncle Ollie was
right....they paved around the gas plant long before they did in Mayberry.
I guess Lake Charles is just more progressive than Mayberry...........and
that's fine with me.

Watching the New Doctor in Town the other night. William Christopher (the
new doc) stops at the court house and hops out of his car to talk to Floyd
and Clara. Then he hops back in and speeds off. As he does, the camera
pans up the street all the way past the Grand. Lo and behold, look quick,
but the marquee is missing from the Grand! You can see other signs of
construction on the front of the theater.

I am a few digests behind and have not seen this posted. Pardon me if I'm
"chewin' the cabbage twice".
The Marshall University Artist Series will have Tim Conway and Don Knotts
for two shows on Thursday, November 21, 2002. This will be at the Keith
Albee Theater in Huntington, WV. Tickets range (according to Ticketmaster)
from $45 down to $30 or $35, I think. I got mine today!
Hope to see you there!

Wow, we've got some good "triple" noticers out there. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks for the great pictures of the Griffith Highway dedication. Great to
see Harvey and others. Way to go Clarence Earp, you look authentic!
Did you ever think of Mayberry as being a "competitive town" instead a
"friendly town"? We like to think of Mayberry in laid-back terms, but a
careful examination of the evidence, indicates that everyone likes to "win"
something, and they were all competing at some time.
How many contests/competitions can you think of that took place in Mayberry?
Don't count games of chance such as Bingo, Raffles, Door prizes, prize
winning mints etc. I have 12 so far and am probably missing some. If you
can come up with 12 or more, lets see 'em. Name the contest/competition, and
who won.
Way to Go Andy! you too Helen!
