In episode #32: Bringing up Opie, I noticed that when Andy is talking to
Opie in bed that Andy's part in his hair is on the wrong side.
In most of the episodes Andy's hair is parted on the left side, but in this
episode it is on the right side during this scene.
The only time you can notice this is when Andy is talking to Opie and the
camera angle is only on Andy. When the camera angle
is on them both the part is on the left side.

Is this considered being a trained noticer or just being a noticer in
training?

>How many contests/competitions can you think of that took place in
Mayberry?
>Don't count games of chance such as Bingo, Raffles, Door prizes, prize
>winning mints etc. I have 12 so far and am probably missing some. If you
>can come up with 12 or more, lets see 'em. Name the contest/competition,
and
>who won Or Lost).< (from my note a few days back)

Thanks to everyone who played "Mayberry The Competitive Town". Most of the
answers I saw were correct, although some listed "games of chance", which
the way the question was asked, did not qualify..but they were good
contests. (Henry Bennet Raffle, Goobers Money Raffle which Floyd won, Mint
contest Gomer lost, Ladies Auxiliary Bingo, Church Raffle in which Barney
won 4 free Hair cuts, etc.)
Here are my answers...but again there are probably more:

Contest/Competition Winner
Pansies (Simmons seeds) Floyd
Miss Mayberry Beauty Contest Erma Bishop
Colonel Tim's Talent Time Howard Sprague
Fishing Contest NOT Andy, Barney and Henry Bennett
The 50 Yd Dash Not Opie despite good training
Baseball Game the Old Goober (and his team)
Bowling Howard Sprague and Emmett's Mayberry team
Skeet or Crow shooting Thelma Lou's cousin Karen
Essay on Battle of Mayberry Good news--Opie Won Bad news--Opie won
County Fair Pickle contest Clara Edwards
Simmmons Seed Rose Contest Clara Edwards/Bee Taylor
Grocery Store Job Opie (over other boy)
Miracle Salve selling (Pony) Noone from Mayberry (Opie Taylor Sr.?)
Pie Eating Contest Goober (mentioned only)
Town Council Nomination Ellie Walker (over 100 signatures required)
Town Council Election Howard Sprague (0ver Aunt Bee)
Sheriff Election Andy (over Barney)
Town Council Election San Jones (over Emmett)
Musical Chorale Rafe Hollister (over Barney)
Barbershop Quartet Contest Mayberry quartet (including prisoner)
How to spend Church money Choir Robes (over foundation work)
Fried Chicken--County Fair Didn't Andy mention that Aunt Bee won
something?
Game Show--Win or Lose Aunt Bee Wins Prizes
Otis Campbell vs. County Of Mayberry County Wins (Sorry Neil)
Family Feud Wakefields vs. ????? It was a draw
Thelma Lou as Girl Friend Barney wins out when Opie concedes the grown
woman

I'd had forgotten these mentioned by Neil Bentley, and one also mentioned by
David

There was the race between Opie and Cynthia to see who could get to the tree

first. (it was interference)
How about the fight between Ernest T. and Malcolm Meriwether?
The fight between Andy and Clarence Earp? (Although perhaps the last two
never really happened)
Someone mentioned Nathan Tibbs decendant..not a contest, but had sort of a
winner.

So, I guess a laid back friendly town still enjoys some healthy competition,
huh?
But they are all good winner and losers alike. That's our Mayberry

I don't want you to be disappointed in me Paw

I was thinking about our dialog concerning contests when I watched the
episode where Aunt Bee ran for city council against Howard. Normally,
there's a bit of "friendly" rivalry between Aunt Bee and Clara (pickles,
etc). However, it was good and heartwarming (I'm getting sentimental in my
old age) to see Clara in solid support of her friend Bee.

Yet another redeeming aspect of the color episodes, which are the second
best thing to ever be on TV (first, of course, are the B & Ws).

I may have more that one mistake, but I realized I goofed on one of the
winners on my list. The Ole Goober and his team did not win the baseball
game. They lost because of Andy's close call at the plate. (which turned
out to be wrong)

If you are not a trained noticer or trivia buff to contribute to the
list....perhaps you would like to comment on the following questions...based
on that list.

Who was among the fiercest of competitors?
Who was among the most gracious winners?
Who was among the sorest losers?
Who was among the most arrogant of former winners?
Which wins were among the most surprising?
Who learned the most from losing?
Who was a regretful winner?
How many cows were seen or mentioned in Mayberry?

Hi All,
Heres a thought. I wonder if Goober's infatuation with Jane in "Goober and
The Art of Love" was actually with, Mrs. Mendlebright herself? Makes you
thank!

Hey All!

I was watching an episode of Maverick yesterday and lo and behold there was
good old Uncle Ollie all dressed up in the calvary lookin' uniform. As has
happened in times past I recognized his voice while I was doing dishes and
came running. I guess Andy was wrong about him being a great big chicken.
There he was all ready to fight after all and not a sign of his goose down
pillow. Maybe Nora was keeping it nice and fluffy while he served his
country.

Have a Mayberry kind of week!

Actually Howard McNear left in 1967 for health reasons, but died in 1969,
after the show had evolved into "Mayberry R.F.D." One person who *did* die
during the run of TAGS is actor Dick Elliott, who played Mayor Pike during
the first couple of seasons.

I heard one or two people say he couldn't remember his lines, and his timing
was off.
