Hey, I was down at the dime store this morning and Laura Lee sure was
excited. She's been promoted from Notions to Millinery. She deserved it,
been there 12 years. Bless her heart.

>>>In a later episode didn't Andy chastize Opie for using the word 'Ain't'?
Or was it Helen?

In a very early episode (Ellie Comes to Town), Ellie offers Opie free ice
cream if he promises to discontinue using the word "ain't." He gleefully
accepts the offer, but forgets his promise seconds later.

During the first season, most of the citizens of Mayberry had a very
"Southern" way of speaking, even though practically nobody in town had a
Southern accent. Later, the language became more "generic." Apparently
this was an attempt by the producers to make The Show appeal to a wider
audience (it seems to have worked, though in my mind the earlier episodes
will always have the most charm).

Fellow WBMUTBB members: It's sad to hear of Friday's passing of Parley Baer,
TAGS' beloved Mayor Stoner. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mr.
Stoner several years ago in Cincinnati at an Old Time Radio convention. He
was a kind, gentle man, and was very proud of his career and his
contributions to TAGS. He had nothing but high praise for the show and the
actors and actresses with whom he worked. He will be missed.
On the subject of the statue TVLand plans to erect in Raleigh, N.C., to
honor Andy and Opie, I've tried to contact TVLand to see if there's any
possibility that they are planing or would consider producing miniatures in
bronze or some other composition for collectors. I'd bet they be able to
sell a slew of them. Just a thought.

I also seem to recall Parley Baer as a neighbor of Ozzie and Harriet
(unless my memory is whacked out). Seems like Luke, Otis' cellmate in
Mt. Pilot, whose mother was a nurse, was also a neighbor of the Nelson
clan. Boy do these reminiscences make me feel old! LOL

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone; we'll be in Savannah with kinfolks.

I kind of find it hard to believe that there weren't any cow prints
anywhere around the 3 sets of prints. And why were there only
3 sets of prints; shouldn't there be a line of foot prints?

I was watching the "Cousin Virgil" episode. When Andy and Barney are
standing on the sidewalk waiting for Virgil's bus to arrive, the sign on the
store behind them says "Franklyn's Pharmacy." Did this replace Walker's drug
store? I don't think it was ever mentioned specifically. Were there two drug
stores? Or is this just an example of some of the outdoor scenes being shot
on a generic town street in which the store names have no particular
significance?

I was watching the 1st episode with the Darlin family and I have a question.
Andy and Briscoe both say "Eating speaks louder than words" when testifying
to their enjoyment of Aunt Bee's white beans. Andy further claims that this
is a famous saying. My question: Is this truly a famous saying or is this
just a spin on the old saying "Actions speak louder than words"? If it is
famous, I sure would like to know the background.

Subject: Regarding Johnny Shafto

Thanks for all of the input regarding my question. I did an askjeeves
question, "What does Thank you Johnny Shafto mean?" and came up with pages and
pages of taunts and insults which included the phrase 'Thank You Johnny
Shafto.' I still don't know what it means. (Imagine someone taking the time to
post pages of insults on the 'Net!)

Regarding games in Mayberry . . .How about when Opie was playing kick the can
and found the wallet with $50? Does that count as a game?

Subject: Opie to Richie, consistent facts
Date: Mon, 25 Nov 2002 17:03:18 -0500

I was watching Happy Days recently. ( Now there is another show that changed
after a star ((Ron Howard)) left). Anyway, it was one of the early
episodes, so you may remember it. Richie and his pal Potsie buy a car.

The main reason they want the car, is to have dates with girls. The boys,
it seems want to go out to the lake to watch "submarine races". As you
might guess, submarine races are a lot like going to the Duck Pond. They
finally succeed in getting the car, the dates, and a trip to the submarine
races.. (Barney why do you want to go to the Duck Pond/ after dark?)but
unfortunately the car has another TAGS parallel. It's a lemon like the one
Barney bought from Mrs. Lesch, and therein is part of the comedy.

So Opie apparently learned about the submarine races (duck pond) from the
master romancer, Barney Fife. When I am without you....I no longer live...

>>> 1. In a few episodes a door is located by cell # 2....Where does that
door lead to?>>>

Jeff this is not a tough trivia question because there is no real answer.
The Door is never used. We can speculate all we want. We can say there is
a stairway to the Mayor's office.
We can says it's 50's-60's taboo restroom. Or if you follow the Floor plan
correctly, it should be a passageway to Floyd's barbershop.
Actually is just a piece of the set that was there one season and
gone the next....just like some of the weird lamps on the walls and other
changes made in the Courthouse set, as well as the Taylor house (guest
room, no guest room etc.).
