A blessed and happy Thanksgiving to my neighbors. I
will be in Mayberry with my son and country daughter
in law. Actually it is Linton, IN, but very
Mayberryesque.

Did the Opie Taylor, Sr. family celebrate
Thanksgiving?
If so, what did Aunt Bee fix? Were Clara, Gomer or
Goober invited?

I was at a meeting last evening and the subject of tv
and movies came up at the end of the meeting. Andy
Griffith got the most attention of all the tv/movie
shows mentioned. Someone mentioned an Andy Griffith
mararthon this Fri.

Subject: Doors that lead to where?

On the subject of the door in the courthouse to the left of cell #2, it was
not there after the first season, just as there was no large window to the
cell side of the front door at the start. There was also no spring water
crock between the cells in the beginning; it came and went later, and was
especially necessary in "Barney Meets the Governor" when Otis spiked the
spring water. Also, in the color episodes, the back door in the kitchen of
Andy's house moved to the left, to the opposite side of the corner. Can
anyone think of other changes that occurred during the series?

Many shows had changes in the sets/room layout/houses during the course of
their series, e.g. Happy Days and Leave It to Beaver. Sometimes they were
explained and written into the shows and sometimes not.

First Happy Thanksgivning to one and all!!
Just a ??? On many eps. of Beverly Hillbillies I
have heard Granny refer to ppl.. as" Gomers" or
"Goomers" Just wondering what that means. Is it a
reference to a "rube" that Granny is using. (She should ,
talk.) is Gomer a real name?
If this has been asked before please excuse.
Also, could "Johnny Shafto" be like Jeeves said
just a version of getting cheated or shafted.?
Well don't ask Goober or Jethro to Thanksgiving Dinner
            if you want leftovers.
H Have a great holiday and be safe. Laverne

Subject: Our Beloved Mayor Stoner

A friend from work sent me Parley Baer's obituary & I was very sorry to
hear of His
passing. He was a very versatile character actor & will be missed. I
have a couple
of fond memories of Mayor Stoner: 1.) When Barney crashed the cymbals
behind his
back in " The Mayberry Band " episode. 2.) When he was chased up a tree
by a bear.
3.) When he entered the courthouse with a lit cigar & Barney
extinguished it for him
in " The Loaded Goat " episode. I plan to do a video tribute to him
Monday, December
2nd at our chapter meeting. Did you also know several years ago he had a
role in
" The Young & Restless " a favorite daytime soap. Rest in Peace our
Dear Mayor &
Friend...............Dave: A Dollar and a Quarter Club, New
Philadelphia, Ohio.

You're absolutely right -- he played the character of Darby for about 5 or 6
years on Ozzie and Harriet. Shows were running along with Danny Thomas on
Good Life TV but the contract recently expired. At least they still have
Mayberry R.F.D.

We know that Parley Baer and Howard McNear both co-starred in the radio
version of "Gunsmoke" (as an old-time radio fan, I consider one of the best
shows ever) as Chester and Doc, respectively, but I don't ever remember a
scene on TAGS in which both appeared. Perhaps Mr. Baer's episodes were
during Mr. McNear's leave of abscence from the show.

Best wishes to you and yours,
K.C. aka "Leon" (Lowdown pesky buzzard. Doggone me!)

Apparently he also learned nothing from "that boob from Mayberry" about
buying used cars, either.

As I recall, the tracks were left in a patch of muddy ground on an otherwise

This story reminded me, (if I'm not mistaken), in the first or second episode
with the "real Floyd", Andy is standing out front, and the sign says, "Colby's
Tonsorial Parlor", doesn't it?

The first time Barney refers to Andy was the first episode, "The New
Housekeeper" Aunt Bee was coming to live with Andy and Opie. Rose was
marrying and leaving as the housekeeper.

Regarding "Johnny Shafto", It occurs to me that Barney was being sarcastic
because they got "shafted" when it came to getting funds. Sort of a "Catch
22"

Just a thot,

This may have been mentioned before, but in a particular episode where Andy
and Barney are sitting on the porch, Barney mentions that he once bought his
parents a septic tank. I would think that on the salary he made, that would be
a very expensive gift. Does anyone know what a septic tank would cost in the
1960's?

Whatever happened to Hilda Mae, Barney's girl in 2 or 3 of the early

office?

I wonder if Newton Monroe's name came from a fellow who, back in 1961, mad

close and the time was right.

In the recent episode of where Andy gets a laundrymat to help fund Opie's
education, who is the guy that walks around the vacant room with Andy before
the machines are put in?? Is he someone famous?? Been in any other
episodes??

Also, Mayor Stoner was also on Days of Our Lives or Young and the Restless.
The only reason I know that is that I am forced to watch the shows being I
tape them for the wife.

Hey everyone,

I was watching Bonanza yesterday, and saw three Mayberry characters. In this
particular episode, Hoss Cartwright had been put in jail for robbery, of course
he was not guilty, and the sheriff in this town was none other than our Briscoe
Darling/Denver Pyle. In this same episode was the newspaper man that tried to
bring all sorts of charges against our beloved Sheriff Taylor, who had given
him a ticket that he had forgotten to pay, so Andy brought him back to Mayberry
to set the fine. By the way in this Bonanza the man who played the newspaper
publisher was shot. Andy would never do that!! Also in this same episode was
the man from the TAGS episode with Opie's Newspaper; who was extremely jealous
if any other man looked at his wife (remember she was the "blonde right out of
the bottle"), anyway he was leading the gang that wanted to lynch poor Hoss
Cartwright.

Something I noticed, and I don't know if I'm right or not, but I was watching
the TAGS episode tonight where Sam Becker, and his wife Lily were having their
baby, and I noticed something I wanted to ask all you trained noticers about.
When Andy, Barney and Floyd are standing in front of the Barber Shop watching
Sam drive away, I am almost sure I saw the actor who played the original Floyd
in the grocery store, and he was standing behind the counter looking out at the
street. Anyone with this episode on tape out there, that could check it out
for me I would sure appreciate it.

......the tears on my pillow bespeaks the pain that is in my heart.........
