Hello all you Mayberry Fans:
I was wondering if any of you could tell me where ol Barn's home town was
before he came to Mayberry to join the show? I think it was Mt. Pilot, but i
not really sure.
"And Suck In That Gutt"!! I'll be waiting for your answers.
Thanks, Mary From Macon Ga.

Hello everyone!
Please bear with me, as I'm new here, and I don't really know if this subject
has been discussed before.
I was planning on purchasing TVLand's "Mayberry Mania" trivia game, but before
I do, I'd love to see some "reviews".
Any opinions would be greatly apprciated!

Thanks much!
RJ

I for one always enjoyed good old Warren. I've always felt they never gave
him enough time to really develop as a viable replacement for Barney. I
know no one could ever actually "replace" Barney, but I feel Warren did add a
lot of humor to the episodes he was in. I especially like it when he and
Andy were at odds over his arresting all the woman at the church bazaar.
Also the episode when he claimed to have extra sensory perception was a real
"hoot".

Dear Residents of Mayberry:

While watching Episode 248 (247): Opie and Mike, the portraits of
presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were prominently
displayed on the wall. Funny thing is, I don't think Ole Abe was too
popular in North Carolina during his term as president. Being born and
raised across the mountain from the Gettysburg Battlefield I know which
side of the fence Mayberry residents were on. On an earlier black and
white episode (episode number unknown) I remember Andy mentioning
something about their southern heritage (confederate money figur! ed in
this one). How do Mayberry residents really feel about old Abe? Any
thoughts? Maybe the shows writers spent to much time patronizing the
Coor's Beer truck on another recent episode. Wishing all in Mayberry a
Merry Christmas.

In the book, Mayberry Memories (excellent if you don't already have it), in
one place the name is spelled Mr. Schwamp. I'm sure it's Schwump, isn't it?

Also, in how many episodes did Mr. Schwump appear? What was his name? He was
never credited.

Also, isn't the line, "I don't want to stand in a stag line with old man
Perkins and a bunch of slumped over teenagers." ?

Not her daughter, since Edwards is her maiden name (her husband's name was
Johnson - see "The Pickle Story.") Barbara could certainly Clara's neice,
though. We learn in "Opie's Group" that Clara has a brother, Claude, and if
memory serves, it's mentioned in "The Pageant" that Clara had gone out of
town to help her sick sister.

Clara does have a son named Gale (mentioned in "Aunt Bee's Invisible Beau"),
but Gale's last name must be Johnson. Another Edwards in town is Dixie
Belle, who likes to hunt black bear in the Great Dismal Swamp.

>>>I've been wondering who that man is who guest starred in Andy's Vacation,
the farmer with a chicken throwing wife? He also played Reverend Alden for
years on Little House.

That's Dabbs Greer. He played four different characters in four separate
TAGS episodes. More recently, he has appeared in the blockbusters "Con Air"
and "The Green Mile" (in the latter, he plays the "older self" of Tom Hanks'
character).

Mr. Greer grew up in the little town of Anderson, MO, not far from where I
live. I've never met him, but I have talked with a few of the old-timers in
Anderson who still stay in touch with him. They tell me he used to come
home regularly to serve as grand marshal of the Christmas parade, but he
stopped coming home to Anderson after his mother died. I guess that must
have been several years ago -- he is now 85 himself.

Hey everybody,

I first want to thank Allan for his beautiful Christmas card, I really enjoyed
it!! I also want to wish his son Adam an early Happy Birthday it's on the
19'th I believe. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I wish you many many more Adam!!

I was wondering if anyone saw the picture of Andy in the TV guide dated
December 14-20?? There is an article in this one entitled " 50 Things I Love
About TV." I was thrilled to see the picture of course. It is a picture of
Andy walking down to Myers Lake while whistling, it's a great picture but it
only shows Andy without Opie beside him. The article has TAGS listed as #28 in
the article, but I don't think there is any order to it. We all know which
show would be first to all of us of course!!!

Here's the article, for anyone who may not get TV Guide:

#28

"Whistling To The Andy Griffith Show Theme"

"It's all about simplicity, a dad and his boy (Andy Griffith and Ron Howard as
Andy and Opie Taylor) walking down a country lane, fishing pole in hand,
whiling away a lazy Mayberry day. We whistle along and instantly are back in
simpler, happier times."

.....................I stay in the house too much!!!........................

I think there were some TAGS eps with a toothless Opie. But I sense the
directors may have wanted to downplay it for whatever reason (perhaps
shooting schedule continuity). So perhaps they didn't have him smile so much
for awhile or talk with his lips a little closer together than usual. I
also seem to remember Ronnie Howard having at least one tooth missing in "The
Music Man", which came out in 1962.

HI all,

I couldn't resist the Rev Alden reference. If you notice, he was also in
"Barney Fife Realtor" also, he played Mr. Simms.

God Bless

Michael
