I think we should give Frances Bavier a break. She was a lady of a different generation. Both her parents were older than usual and she sounds like a gracious, proper lady of an earlier era who could be a bit tempermental at times. The TAGS actors who talk about her in books are praiseworthy of her. I believe she was closest to Jack Dodson. As for the "snub" of Ron Howard, it was probably an elderly lady just not strong enough that day to prepare to greet an unexpected guest. I, for one, consider "Aunt Bee" a treasure and model of decorum. I recently saw Ms Bavier's very classy, understated acceptance of her Emmy for TAGS and my appreciation for her increased.
