Wade wanted to know if there were any towns similar to Mayberry.
Try the community of Shady Grove, Mississippi, on for size. The people are
mostly
older, generally honesty, and all nutsy. We even have one family whose phone
is outside up a pole. When it rings, they climb it and sit in a rusty car for
long
conversations on rainy days. Yeah, this is like on "Green Acres," so I don't
know
if they got the idea from them or what. I just know they live in a nice house,
buy nice things, and have a telephone pole. Literally.
There's never been a murder in Shady Grove, no arm-gun-robbery, and the only
side-effects from drugs is what you get from improper canning.
The worse thing is how the people talk about each other--just like in Mayberry--
because everyone has a "streak." A gambling streak, a lying streak, a
stubborn
streak, you name it. Myra Knootz probably has a wild streak that runs in her
 family.
Well, I'll close for now. Laura Lee Hobbs is beside herself today since the
Preacher
told her she could hand out flowers Sunday in church on Mother's Day.
Laura Lee comes from a family with a proud streak.
Lydia, Call me on my pole any time you feel like it and we'll compare streaks.
