Well I stopped into Weaver's today cuz I was working on Sunday and
didn't want to be working so I took a break and went over there.
Didn't see or hear any old ladies clanking, but I did give the store a
good stakeout.
Told you that to tell you this.
Nobody at my house got the hint about me wanting the first season DVDs
for Christmas so I got them for myself. Then, I was looking at the
E-bullet that I got last week and I see that they have a new T-shirt in
that's pretty cool - "Barney's Choppers"
>*MAYBERRY CHOPPERS T-SHIRT $16.00
>This black T-shirt features Barney in his helmet, goggles, and leather
>jacketready to patrol Checkpoint Chickie and the streets of Mayberry on
>his motorcycle. The nickname "Mad Dog" would fit the Phantom Deputy to a T.!
So I got me one of them. Then I noticed that I didn't have a Mayberry
Union High Sweatshirt and it is gettin kind of cold out here in
Dee-troit, so I got one for me and then I got one for my buddy Rev Jim.
Then I saw the Snappy Lunch golf polo shirt and nabbed one of them too.
Sounds like I'm Opie on a "spendin' spree" doesn't it? My Piggy Bank
will never look the same.
I went down every aisle and couldn't find that "church key" with the
striped umbrella on it for a reasonable dollar and a quarter that Barney
tried to walk out with. I could use one of those.
Just usin' it for celebrations, not for plain guzzlin'

On New Year's Eve, I was watching one of my local PBS stations, KVCR out
of San Bernardino, CA, a program called "I Remember Television". This
night was devoted to Jack Benny. The episode was about Jack spending
New Year's Eve alone because his date fell through. So he went out and
was walking down one of the streets in Beverly Hills, looking for
something exciting. He turned the corner and one of the businesses was
a barber shop. As he walked by, in the window of the barber shop was
their price list. It appeared to be the same price list that Floyd has
on his wall. What really caught my eye, the prices were the same in
Beverly Hills in 1962, as they are in Mayberry.
Does anyone else get this program on PBS? I would be curious to find
out if anyone saw this program. The Jack Benny show was produced by
DESILU, which at that time was the Paramount Studios lot of today.
I'm the TAGS fan who worked in the Sears store and saw Bert. If your
PBS station does not subscribe to this program, it would be worth
looking into.

One line in Thursday's Mayberry Mystery story ("I ain't had a big tire day
since..." of course reminded me of the line in the show. By Friday, I'd been
asked to deliver public prayers at my college's basketball game on Saturday,
church Sunday, and the semester opening convocation on Monday I'm not a
preacher, and don't even play one on TV or anywhere else, but I'm regularly
asked to participate in public ceremonies. Anyway, my response was, "I ain't
had a big prayer week since exam week when I was a student." Noone got it, but
at least I amused myself.

I've got one more good theory about the number of messages being down
lately here at the first of the year. It seems there is a dispute
between our "Bulletin Board" here, and the Electronic Email Post Office
Bulletin Board.
Our E-Mailman thinks that we have more impressive postings here on our
Bulletin Board than he has at the E-Post Office..so he's been stealing
(like a shoplifter or chicken thief) our good E-mails. All we're
getting in return is junk mail from Spammers, and messages that aren't
fit to post..not really what we'd call "Wanted" material by Digest
"posters". Yep, his Fingerprints are all over this. I can see his mug
now.
It's all just about solved now, though. Allan promised his he could
copy some of the funny postings, but he still has to deliver them.
THAT'S Whose been messin' up the Bulletin Board!!

There seems to a gross imbalance of eligible females in Mayberry compared to
eligible males. Barney had no problem rounding up 7 or 8 prospective wives for
Andy but the only eligible men other than Andy and Barney seem to be Gomer,
Goober and Howard. Unless you want to count the Darlings and Ernest T.

I agree with all of you, Emma Watson is just too cute! Kim, I agree with you
too, ..Emma's expressions when the escaped convict in her house are hilarious.
Bless her heart, she doesn't realize that Andy is "on" to the fact that the
convict is there behind Emma's front door. When Emma was sick and everyone
brought her food, it reminded me of the small town in Mississippi my parents
and husband are from. In Charleston, whenever there is a sickness or death in
the family, all the church ladies get together and bring meals. Of course they
always bring plenty for leftovers so the lady of the house doesn't have to
worry about meals. I'm sure there are lots of towns everywhere that have sweet
folks like the ones in Charleston. I always thought that the fact that there
was so much food, showed that Emma must have been a special lady in Mayberry.
I remember once when Barney arrested Emma for "jaywalking" Andy told Barney
something about the fact that they always let Emma jaywalk
because they felt like it would help Emma be with them that much longer.
I received a "Mayberry" Calendar for Christmas this year and it is great,
because I can look at each picture and tell you what the episode was about. I
can pretty much tell what Andy, Barney or whoever is in the picture has just
said also. It helps me realize once again what a wonderful show TAGS is. It
also makes me appreciate the digest and all of you here that enjoy talking
about the show with me. I know I have said it many times before, but I think
it bears repeating. Allan you are a real "Prince of a Fellow" because of all
the hard work you do to make the digest the success that it is. I will never
forget how excited I was to find the digest, and then to go to my first
Mayberry Days and get to meet you on the streets of Mt. Airy. As that lady
reporter told Mayor Pike.... "what a thriiillllll". It makes me feel so
honored to meet people like Jim Clark at a Mayberry event, introduce myself and
when they hear my name they know who I am from here at the digest. I count it
an honor to call all of you my friends.

I wanted to ask how many members we now have. A few years back, there
was talk about recognizing the 1,000th member with some type of special
recognition, like a hat or shirt or something. I don't remember.
Anyway, I was wondering if we are approaching another milestone?

I might have missed somebody's post on this, and I don't watch a lot
of TV, so today when I had TVLand on, there was a commercial that
featured Barney and Fred Sanford. They were going back and forth
between the two, but what made me take notice was that Fred was shown
making various comments around the phrase "Nip it in the bud."
The words were in different orders and might have had other words as
part of the phrase, but it was based on "nip it in the bud."

Hey Folks,
I don't normally do this but I wanted to let folks in the Fayetteville,
NC area know that "Floyd" will be appearing at Snyder Memorial Baptist
Church. They are raising money for a youth mission trip coming up this
summer and they're doing a "Mayberry Night" to help raise the money.
It's going to be a diner theater type event. The Dinner will be Blue
plate special: fried chicken, vegetables, rolls and Aunt Bee's home made
dessert buffet.
They'll have:
# Character look alike contest.
# Theme song whistling contest
# Favorite episode skit by their Mayberry Actors
# Mayberry video clips will play on big video screens during the meal
# Auction & and Raffle of two handmade "Aunt Bee's Quilts"
and more....
Of course "Floyd" will be doing his magic trick he got from Newton
Monroe and hopefully he'll be funny as well. The reason "Floyd" will be
there is because our favorite Deputy, David Browning, just couldn't make
it back to NC from where he'll be on the 21st so then needed somebody to
fill in. I think Floyd will be deputized for the day. We'll have loads
of fun and I hope to see you there.
Location: Snyder Memorial Baptist Church; Fayetteville, NC
http://snydermbc.com/
When: Jan. 22nd
Time: 6 PM
Cost: $10 (Limited to 500 persons)

The reason behind the light postings recently is really quite simple. His
name is John Masters. We've all been at play practice! You know how John
is about rehearsals, don't give you time to turn around. I think that boy
needs a wife.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but you can also purchase the DVD
set of "Make Room for Daddy" which has the pilot for TAGS. My husband and I
bought it and we love it.
It sure is a wonderful addition to our complete first season!!!
Kind of funny to hear Andy refer to his Aunt Lucy.
Can't wait for the rest of the TAGS episodes to be released on DVD!!!

My prayers to everyone on this list, especially Jennifer, Miss Ellie, Ted, Kit
and Kim: One thing that helps me is the quote, "God is my unfailing guide. He
is my refuge and strength." At one point in my life, during college, I had
written it on a piece of paper and taped it on the front of a copy of a book in
an English class I was having trouble with. I started putting it everywhere. On
my refrigerator, taped to my computer, etc. Just seeing it all the time, really
kept me up lifted.
As far as the Gay Christians being threatened with going to jail for reading
the Bible, that is a true story. It happened in Pa. I searched for it at a site
called www.snopes.com where you can check out Urban Legends to see if they are
true. You can check out any subject from food to business to religion or just
put in the words you're searching for which is what I did.
This site has pop ups but I have a free pop up blocker from my internet
provider and have no problems.

Okay, I'm probably digging in deep with the trivia, here. The subject was
"Relationships that Didn't Work". I recall one episode where Andy and
Barney are in the courthouse and Barney is reading the newspaper. Barney is
reading about Lorraine and Fred(?) somebody(?) are breaking up. Barney
implies the problem was drinking and Andy assumes it was Fred. Barney said,
"Not Fred -- Lorraine". I believe this was the nearest mention of a divorce
in Mayberry. I assumed it was a divorce since they wouldn't have it in the
newspaper if they were breaking up just from dating.
"Lorraine Beasley"
P.S. Sorry I can't recall the actual names.

Fellow Mayberrians: Think of TAGS actor Charles Lane on Jan. 26. The man who
played Mr. Frisbey in "Aunt Bee the Crusader," which aired January, 20,
1964, appeared in It's a Wonderful Life, Gomer Pyle, Beverly Hillbillies and
has a list of acting credits a mile long, turns 100 that day.
