I noticed a posting that was pointing out the number of eligible women to
men in MAYBERRY. GOMER, GOOBER and ERNEST T. were mentioned. What about MR.
SCHUMP! He was left out.

Oh, my goodness. Charles Lane is 100! You know, he always played characters
that appeared old even when they weren't. Had that thin, boney look so he
could do that squint and look real mean.

Was in Mayberry (Linton, IN) yesterday, for church and
socializing. After services at Indian Prairie Baptist,
back at my son James' house (Opie #1). We had a
shortened visit because they were called to sit with
Aunt Brandy (Emma) during her time of sickness.
True to the spirit of Mayberry my son and his wife
went out and spent the day keeping company with
someone feeling puny. Aunt Brandy is middle-age and
had a tonsilectomy that went wrong.
I suppose some of Emma's pills might've helped!

Hey everybody. I read Anita's post about the Mayberry Calendar and I
got one for Christmas too. I know the show from most of the pictures,
but not all. Can you list on the digest for everyone to see them Anita?
I did notice that they used the same picture on one month this year as
they did last with just a smaller or bigger shot (can't remember which
one). It has finally turned cold in NC, it was bound to happen. Well,
got to go. Horatio (Kevin)

DeLayne, you are so right. There must have been 15 or 20 women Barney
got to come to Andy's house for a "meeting with Thelma Lou". And since
Helen and Thelma Lou snagged the cream of the crop those other women
must have had to go to Mount Pilot or bigger places to meet someone. I
think Howard was a confirmed bachelor, Gomer went off to the Marine
Corps and Goober didn't seem too serious about commitment either. The
pickings were really slim! Mary Grace in Georgia

>>When Emma was sick and everyone brought her food, it reminded me of the
small town in Mississippi my parents and husband are from. In Charleston,
whenever there is a sickness or death in the family, all the church ladies
get together and bring meals. Of course they always bring plenty for
leftovers so the lady of the house doesn't have to worry about meals.>>
I had surgery a few years ago and the people from our church brought food
over every day for a week. We had stocked up on frozen foods and someone
from my family brought food over the day I got home, but then every day
someone from church brought food over. It truly is touching when people
care that much and want to help you. That spirit of Mayberry, neighbors
helping neighbors, is alive in many places. The best part of it all was
after I got well from my surgery I was able to help out other people by
taking them food. It made me feel good to be able to return the favor!
It's a great thing, to have people who really care about you. Now, where
are my pills? I need my pills. I feel a pain coming on... :) Lisa

Well hi everyone! There sure has been an increase in the number of posts
since someone mentioned it! Thanks to whoever that was. It has been a
little more interesting reading the past few days. I didn't like being
done reading my daily digest is 30 seconds! So I just thought I would
make a contribution along with everyone else.
Had a little Mayberry moment last night. We were driving back from
church and it was dark. We saw a couple walking very close to the road
on the right side and didn't see them until we were right on them. My
brother spouted out, "Walk on the left side after dark or you'll wind up
playing a harp!!" You can even get safety tips from TAGS!
Oh, that Mayberry Night sounds like a lot of fun and makes me wish I was
going to be in the area that night. Good luck with it! Hope you can
raise a lot of money from it. I remember the days of earning money for
mission trips. Wish we would've had something fun like that instead of
selling M&M's door to door.
Have a great day everbody!
Amy

In an earlier posting, someone mentioned Opie's rock making a "Splash". I
was watching "Ellie runs for City Counsel". In the opening Credit, Opie's
rock made a "Big Kerplunk"!!
If someone hadn't brought up the fact that some openings the rock doesn't
splash and some do, I would never have thought to notice. Whoever it was
is a "Trained Noticer" for sure!!!

>I believe this was the nearest mention of a divorce in Mayberry.
Well, actually no, it isn't.....Recall "Divorce Mountain Style" when
Charlene enlisted Andy and Barney's help as she wanted to divorce Dud and
the antics that followed. Done and done....Holler FLINCH!!!!
I'm enjoying my new DVDs and I also received the Trivia game for Christmas.
But, alas, no one will play it with me :( However, just having it in my
possession is good enough for me.

If TAGS fans wish to see Mary Alice Carter (Suzanne Cupito now known as
Morgan Brittany) in a little more in depth role, check out the 1968 Desilu film
'Yours, Mine, and Ours.' The time frame between the TAGS episode 'Opie's First
Love', the 1967-1968 season opener, and this film looks to be just mere weeks.
I
would like to ask Morgan herself, which came first, her TAGS appearance or
'Yours, Mine, and Ours.' It looks she walked from out of that back seat of
Andy's car right to this film.
She goes from dissing Opie early on in the episode to liking him in the end.
In this Lucille Ball film, we see her traumatized from the recent loss of her
mother. Opie never tossed around in his bed and went to the doctor like
Suzanne did. He handled the loss of his mother pretty well.
