Hello Fellow Mayberrians!
I have been so busy since the first of the year that I am just getting some
time to breathe! First of all I want to say that my husband and I were able
to catch David Browning as Scrooge in Oakboro this past December and I must
say that I was very impressed. We attend a lot of plays and I thought this
one was of the highest quality. David is an excellent actor. I also wanted
to share my Mayberry Moment with everyone. As I have told you in the past,
our church had an Evening In Mayberry for our pastor this past November and
it was a huge success! I am already working on one for this year. Our
pastor has been wanting a scooter so our men got together and bought him one
for Christmas. That thing will do 80!!!! Now that's fast for a scooter!!!
So once again we decided to present it to him Mayberry Style! One of the men
got up in front of the church to present our pastor with his Christmas gift
he proceeded to tell the church that it had been stolen. You heard all of
these "aahhs" across the congregation. He then told them not to worry they
had someone on the job to find it. About that time we had Barney come riding
down the aisle on the scooter yelling "I found it" The congregation went
wild. It was hilarious. Of course I had already briefed Barney on what to
say so our pastor was ecstatic!!!
Just wanted to share that with you all.

>>I might have missed somebody's post on this, and I don't watch a lot
of TV, so today when I had TVLand on, there was a commercial that
featured Barney and Fred Sanford. They were going back and forth
between the two, but what made me take notice was that Fred was shown
making various comments around the phrase "Nip it in the bud."
The words were in different orders and might have had other words as
part of the phrase, but it was based on "nip it in the bud."

Jim, I'm speculating here based on a commercial I saw with Fred Sanford
and Andy. TVland was trying to be cute about some schedule changes.
They were taking Andy out of a time slot and putting Sanford and Son in
it. They used some quotes from each of them...or possibly sound-a-likes
to make it seem like a conversation. It was kind of lame, but got the
point across of the schedule change...for regular watchers.

Just today, I noticed that the episode "Mayberry Goes Hollywood" contains a
rarely-seen scene in which Mayberry's mortician also describes his TV repair
business, thus setting up the epilogue shot of the TV set coming out the back
of
the hearse. That scene is missing from the TV Land showing.

Beloved character actor Charles Lane is frequently asked about on this list.
In Mayberry he's best remembered as Mr. Frisby the farmer whose cause Aunt
Bee takes up. But he also did such classic films as "You Can't Take It With
You," "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Murphy's
Romance," and was a semi-regular on "The Lucy Show" and "Petticoat Junction."
Well, he's still alive and well and about to celebrate his 100th birthday,
which
leads me to the following info I got from one of my lists:
***Character actor Charles Lane has appeared in hundreds of films and tv
shows
including "It's a Wonderful Life", "I Love Lucy" and "Get Smart".
January 26th is his 100th birthday and his family is planning a big
celebration for him.
There are two places collecting cards for Mr. Lane so if you'd like to
get him one I'll bet he'd love to hear from his many fans.
An I Love Lucy group is collecting cards at:
Mr. Charles Lane
c/o We Love Lucy
PO Box 56234
Sherman Oaks, CA 91413
Also you can send a card or an email which will be printed out and added
to the cards. Please go to this website for more details: (An email card
may be quicker for this address because I'm told Mr. Lane's daughter
will leave for California on the 24th.):

You know, with all the talk about the first season on DVD, I have yet to hear
any specifics on when season two and so on will be made available to us. Does
anyone have any dates on that? I am already working through season one a second
time! Can anyone help a brother out?
