Now this is an IMPORTANT part, I know and from a girl who hangs her hear out
car windows, maybe
I'm all full of hot air, but here's my idea: Who could play Barney?

Sean Hayes from "Will and Grace." Now, I know that show is nothing like our
beloved Andy but the
character Jack plays is in many ways similar to Barney. He's over
confident and always getting himself
into jams that his more stable pal Will (Andy) has to bale him out of; he
doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes; he takes his romantic partners for
granted (sort of the way Barney does Thelma Lou and Juanita); he has a
nervous energy a lot like our Barney; and, maybe most importantly, Jack is
prone
to well, lie--pump himself up, shall we say? Just the way our precious
Barney does from time to time.
Never in a mean way, and never in a way to hurt anyone else. Just in a
childish attempt to try and
make himself look better. In fact, while "Will and Grace" never reminds me
of Mayberry, the Jack and Will relationship often reminds me of Andy and
Barney.

Granted "Will and Grace" is not a family show and will never be the classic
TAGS is, but we are casting someone to play a part here. Not comparing the
validity of the shows the actors work in.
And so on that reason alone I think Sean Hayes has the body type and antics
to play a perfect Barney.

Lydia, the girl with definite opinions

I love my Barney; I can barely tolerate that bossy major and Bobby Fleet
when he insulted that hard-working waitress; but I love my Barney

I would pick Courtney Cox, she looks like her and I think would nail that
character!

Alright!
Now that I am back to getting on the digest( had some trouble there for
awhile). I will try again to tell about my Mayberry Moment.
I live in a military town( Clarksville,Tn near Ft. Campbell) and I was at
the YMCA. There were two women talking in the locker room in another
language and one women was looking on. The women watching said to the two
talking " Stricken de Douech?" (spelling)...and we all laughed. I don't
know if they all were relating to Mayberry or not but I sure was.
I had kindof another Mayberry moment also. My grandaughter's class is
reading about Flat Stanley and they had to send him to someone that would
take him on an adventure and then write a letter about thier adventure ,so
they decided to send him to me. Well ya'll know where I took him, Yep, right
sraight to Mayberry. Then I wrote a letter about our trip to Mayberry and
the class loved it. They even liked it better than the one about Vegas.

Did Howard Morris provide the voice for the Masked Singer? You know, when
he sang "Oh, Silvia."

I know he did, but I have a friend who argues me down that he did not. Will
someone help this
woman see reason here.

Signed, Lydia. I love Barney; I can barely tolerate that bossy mayor or
Bobby Fleet when he is insulting that hard-working waitress; but I love my
Barney. And I love Howard T. whether he's throwing rocks or singing songs
wearing a mask.

"How about Fran Drescher as Daphne?" Outstanding idea! I can hear her saying
"Hello Doll". Not the same deep voice, but just as distinctive. Perhaps Doris
Roberts could be Mrs Wiley.

Howdy,

As I've said, I love the idea of Kathy Bates as Aunt
Bea and Steve Busemi as Deputy Barney Fife. Fran
Dresher as Daphne is a great pick, too. I'm still
struggling to cast Mayberry's own Andrew Jackson
Taylor. Tom Hanks seems the logical choice given his
relationship with Ron Howard, but even Mr. Hanks
doesn't seem big enough to play Andy Taylor. And this
is from someone who considers Tom Hanks the Jimmy
Stewart of my generation, and he's big, real big!

Folks have made a lot of suggestions, many of them
actresses I'm not familiar with, but that's okay. I
just wanted to see what you folks would think and who
you'd suggest.

Good luck to you and yours,
Jay

Let's take time to remember the African American extras in the background
throughout the run of TAGS. Don't forget Rockne Tarrington in the first black
speaking role as Flip Conroy in 'Opie's Piano Lesson.' There was even the
black
lieutenant who caught Gomer foolin' around outside at night around the
barracks in a later episode of 'Gomer Pyle USMC.' And OPRAH's on in the
afternoon,
and Oprah LOVES TAGS!!!
