I am teaching the TAGS Bible Study and always start off with my personal
favorite episode, Opie's Charity. Since I got the DVDs recently, I used
that version in the class. I knew it was uncut and that I should expect to
see a couple of things that normally get clipped, but what to my surprise do
I see, but a scene that I absolutely have never, ever seen before! (Well, I
probably did see it in the original broadcast but that was 45 years ago.)
When Andy and Tom are visiting the cemetery, Tom talks about his singing 2nd
tenor with the lodge quartet.
Has anyone ever seen the 2nd tenor scene in the broadcast episodes?

TAGS is full of wonderful life lessons that we all can use. Bits of wisdom
and understanding that literally can change your life.
For me, it was finding out you have to go to Mt. Pilot to get a good suit.

If the tribute artists didn't portray their respective roles in the Mayberry
movie, I thought of an actor who I think would make a good Barney Fife, Doug E.
Doug. I saw him in the remade move, That Darn Cat where he played an FBI
agent. A lot of his facial expressions reminded me of Barn's. Also the fact
that he was playing an agent who had something to prove to the other agents.
Despite making mistakes, he was able to solve the crime.
I tend to agree about Tom Hanks. He's a good actor, but he doesn't have the
same folksy warmth as Andy Griffith.
Kim - Wylie, TX
I'm having fun thinking about this movie even if it never gets made!

How about an all black cast:
Andy Morgan Freeman, or Will Smith
Barney Eddie Murphy, or Martin Lawrence
Helen Halle Berry
Thelma Lou Tyra Banks
Aunt Bee Oprah
Gomer Bernie Mack
Any other suggestions?

Not a bad idea Lydia! He'd be great.
What about Jim Carrey or David Spade? Both have mentioned that Don Knotts
heavily influenced them, and Carrey even tried at one point to remake "The
Incredible Mr. Limpet."

Try this one on for size: George Clooney. He's already played similar parts
(guy who seems like a hick but is very shrewd and probably the smartest guy in
the whole picture) in several movies, I think he'd be a perfect Andy.

The song in question is "Who is Sylvia?" by Franz Schubert. Schubert's
birthday was yesterday (born Jan 31, 1797 in Vienna).
Anyway, Howard Morris provided the voices for both Leonard Blush and the
WMPT* radio announcer who introduced him. He also directed that episode
(Barney's Bloodhound.)
--Paul
*In the script, the name of the radio station was WMPT, but in the episode
Mr. Morris mispronounced it as WMPD. You have to admit, WMPT makes more
sense, as MPT could be an abbreviation for Mt. Pilot.

Did Howard Morris provide the voice for the Masked Singer? You know, when
he sang "Oh, Silvia."
I know he did, but I have a friend who argues me down that he did not. Will
someone help this
woman see reason here.
Signed, Lydia.

Thought I'd pass along a Mayberry moment I had while reading the Religion
section of our local newspaper last Saturday. While skimming through some
of the sermon titles for tomorrow's services I spotted one that gave me an
instant smile: "What's Your Hurry?" Perhaps some members of the
congregation constructed a band stand for a nice concert under the stars
that evening, because as we all know you can't have a band concert without a
band stand.
So, now I'm casting the whole movie set in the early
years of the show. I thought Tom Hanks would be a good
for Andy, but I'm curious what others have to say.
Who'd play Opie? Aunt Bea is a tough one, too. And who
in the world could play Floyd Lawson?!! Maybe Alec
Baldwin?
How about Robin Williams as Ernest T. Bass?
Chris in Chattanooga, who agrees with Barney; there's one thing a preacher
can't talk enough about - sin.

I agree. Meant to say something the first time you posted. Steve
Busemi is sometimes a dead ringer for Barney!

"I realize that The Love God was probably the least successful movie that Don
Knotts
stared in but I am so fascinated with the talents that he demonstrates in that
movie.
It shows intelligence and abilities of him that we don't see in other movies
and shows,
and in some scenes in the movie it is almost like seeing him perform live. So
much I
wish that I would have had many opportunities to see him perform live over the
years.
Yet I am grateful that I did finally get to see him perform live once, at the
cast reunion in Nashville last June.
And to think that I am guilty of being the one who probably watched the Andy
Griffith show the least, until recent years. It was too much like watching
myself."
*****************************************************************************************
I second that. The Love God is my favorite Don Knotts movie, narrowly inching
out The Reluctant Astronaut. Anne Francis was great in it as well. Some
people my not like it because of it's nature and Don uses the word "sex" in it.
I say "fiddle faddle" to them.
I'll really miss Johnny Carson, and was wondering how many times TAGS's main
characters appeared on The Tonight Show. I imagine the total list would be
very long, with Johnny having 30 years and 22,000 guests.

Dan all three of these links are somehow connected to the 40 acres backlot.
I hope this helps.
