Thank you, Paul, for all the info you provided on Howard Morris. It was much
appreciated. I do
know that Sylvia should be spelled with a "y" and not Silvia, but I have never
been a good typist and with three
children under five, my proof-reading is next to none. But
you did confirm for me that Ernest T. Bass is good for more that throwing rocks.
Over the last few months our local paper has listed two baby girl names as
Millie Grace. What do you think of that?
"Now just relax. You're gonna have a wonderful time with Millie Grace."
My name is Lydia. It means Native of Ancient Greece. But that's not where I'm
from. I'm from Shady Grove, Mississippi.

Wow! In total, I like this black cast better than any white cast we've come up
with. Morgan and Eddie for Andy and Barney. Of course, if still alive, Lynn
Thigpen could have given Oprah a run for her money. (Even if I did originally
suggest Oprah. Guess that means no one should count on me for loyalty. :-) )

Was watching the Turner Classic Movies presentation Tuesday night (Feb. 1)
of the 1935 film Mutiny on the Bounty starring Clark Gable, Franchot Tone
and Charles Laughton and noticed three TAGS characters among the cast.
Dick Winslow, who played Tinkler in the movie, appeared in the April 13,
1964, broadcast of the TAGS episode "The Fun Girls" as Earle the dance band
conductor.
Ian Wolfe, appearing as Maggs, the ship's clerk, in the movie, was
represented on TAGS in the Oct. 10, 1966, episode "Aunt Bee's Crowning
Glory" as Rev. Leighton.
Eddie Quillan, as seaman Thomas Ellison in the movie, appeared on TAGS Nov.
1, 1965, as the bellhop in "Taylors in Hollywood."

I'm surprised no one has mention the person who would know Andy the best, Ron
Howard. Though he is a director now, he could with makeup ( a wig ) be an
excellent Andy. Guess too many rubbed his head when he was a youngun, but he
has the sense of humor & ability to take on any roll.

I think Jim Carrey would be a good Ernest T. Bass. He is one of the few
people who could do it. Of course, that takes him out of the Barney
picture......How about Rick Moranis (sp?) for Barney? He already played Barney
once,
albeit Barney Rubble not Barney Fife......(This is assuming the master David
Browning were not on the table) I think Eugene Levy would be a good Floyd......
Somehow Jeff Foxworthy would seem to fit in somewhere to this "movie" too,
but not sure where......

Hey everybody. I was just wondering something. The time Barney was
calling over to the diner to talk with Juanita, it amazes me that when
Frank answers the phone Barney says Hello, Juanita, oh hey Frank. Now,
either Frank has a girly voice of Juanita has a manly voice because I
just can't imagine Barney not recognizing Franks voice and it not being
Juanita. Granted the way it was done was funny, but it's been praying
on my mind. Anybody else ever notice that? Well got to go now.

Morgan Freeman is one of the best actors of all time,
but I see Denzel Washington playing Andy. Mr. Freeman
is just a little too old for the role. Eddie Murphy's
interpretation of Barney would be fun to see, but
Chris Rock would be good too.

Chris, I think that could be the funnest part of the
whole movie if Robin could still do the physical
aspect of the role. Howard Morris was a genius!
>George Clooney
Dixon, you have found Andy for me. Clooney really
could pull it off with his sense of comedy and the
tenderness needed for moments with Opie. Excellent
choice.
>I'm having fun thinking about this movie even if it
never gets made!
Kim, I'd love to see Ron Howard (who else?!!) direct a
Mayberry movie. Someone is bound to do it someday, but
for now it's just a little diversion from life, much
like Mayberry.
How about Horatio Sanz from Saturday Night Live as
Otis? Phil Hartman would have been a good Andy, bless
his soul.

Hands down, Jon Cryer, from "Two and a half men" (with Charlie Sheen), as well
as "Pretty in Pink" (he played "Duckie"). He looks so much like Don Knotts,
and has the nervous energy of Barney. He'd be a natural.

So it would seem that Andy has something in common w/the Grateful dead!
They both know a good song when they hear one.

It doesn't really matter who is cast as who in the TAGS movie, but you would
almost have to bring back Morgan Brittany a.k.a. Suzanne Cupito as Mary Alice
Carter. She would tear the moral fiber right out of that town like Kate in
'East of Eden.' That would be the conflict. Naturally, it would have a happy
ending. I would also bring in Soon Teck Oh as Lee, the new proprietor of Aunt
Bee's New Canton Palace restaurant. He would offer words of wisdom that Keye
Luke
didn't.

If this comes out in time, don't forget Ron Howard will be on the Happy
Days 30-year reunion on CBS Thursday night.
In honor of that reunion, lets run down the TAGS connections. The most
obvious, of course, is Ron Howard. Then there is Jack Dodson (Howard
Sprague) who made a few guest appearances.

Loved the one about the all black cast! Oprah as Aunt Bee! Ha Ha!
I think Harry Connick, Jr. would be a great Barney.
