Wouldn't that have been Laverne and Shirley?

I check the Western Channel every now and then just to see what's on. Last
night I hit on a movie called The Quick Gun starring Audie Murphy and our
own James Best (Jim Lindsey). James was the sheriff and Audie was the
gunslinger who was helping him protect the town from the bad guys. And who
should be one of the towns leading citizens? None other than Frank Ferguson
(Mr. Foley).

Come to think of it, that's exactly how the world met Laverne and Shirley.

Keep in mind, Andy and Barney were fairly young on the show, they were in their
'30s. (Andy Griffith was 34 when the show premiered and 42 when he left.) I
didn't want to say this out loud since it will make most of us feel old,
but...Ron Howard is already much older than Andy was on the series.

It's been fun reading all the ideas on the recasting of Mayberry, but I've got
to tell you.........it's just breakin' my little ol' heart envisioning anyone
replacing the Old Gang. It's like trying to think who in Hollywood could
"play" my Dad or sister or my weird Uncle Pete.
I just can't get into it, nosirree!

Happy Birthday Mr. Lane!!! Wow what a privilege to have lived to be 100 !!!!
WHOOEEEEE!!!!
Everyone is talking about a Mayberry Movie and who would play the different
characters from TAGS, but I am just going to have to agree with Jan. I
remember she said it would be great if we could have her Allan play Floyd,
David play Barney, Phil to play Ernest T., Tim play Goober and all the other
tribute stars be their characters. The one that stumped me at first was our
Andy, but hey, why not ask the man himself!!! I know the suggestions of George
Clooney and others might be good ideas, but in my opinion no one else could
take the place of Andy. In my opinion he would by far be the best one for the
job. I know I read in a "Bullet" that Andy and his lovely wife Cindy have
recently bought a house in Los Angeles. THIS IS BIG!!!! Maybe Andy read the
digest and is going to take all of our ideas together and do a TAGS movie!!!
I don't know about all of you, but I want to be sure and not miss this one.

Hey Folks,
I'm working on the ErnestT.com web site and I was wondering....do any of
you have images of cartoon characters and other characters that Howard
Morris has played over the years that are already 'electronic?' I'm
hoping to do a "Gallery" type section on his site that would be made up
of characters he's played in one form or another. I have several
Ernest T images (could use more) and Atom Ant but not too many others.
Anyway, I figured it was worth asking. If you have some and are
willing, please e-mail 'em to me directly!
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanks!!!
Drop by http://www.ErnestT.com if you have a chance. It's worth a visit.

My son left southern Indiana and entered college last fall in of all places
Fayetteville, NC (we went through Siler City on the way to the initial
campus visit and I thought I was in heaven). He's nearly as big a TAGS fan
as I am. We both got season one DVD sets for Christmas! To ease my
separation anxiety we IM most nights to check in and discuss the day.
While chatting last night I found the TAGS mini-marathon on TV-Land. Sean
turned it on and we watched it together, albeit 650 miles apart. Soon we
were typing lines to each other just before they were spoken and when Barney
was telling Andy how busy he'd been while stifling a yawn we were both
laughing out loud. Sean is in a Professional Golf Management program so of
course we both enjoyed Barney's suprise at who was giving the golf lessons
at the Esquire Club.
I can't help but believe that Ol Barn would be proud of the way these
electronal marvels gave a father and son a chance to bridge the miles and
share our love for TAGS and each other.

I was thinking that Samuel Jackson would be great to play the roles that Alan
Melvin played as the re-occurring heavy.

How about Martin Short to play Barney? He may be a little old for the part,
but he is a great physical actor/comedian AND he can sing!
(I really wanted him to be cast as the new Willie Wonka in the remake of
"Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," but they went with that young
Pirate, Johnny Depp.)
Fran Drescher would be outSTANDing as Daphne. That voice....
Reese Witherspoon would be an adorable Charlene Darling.
Have we cast Gomer and Goober? I vote for Adam Sandler and Will Farrell.
Another SNL alum could be included: Chris Kattan as Ernest T. Bass.
John Goodman could be a good Briscoe Darling.
John Cleese as Malcolm Merriweather
Here's a wild hare idea: cast Ron Howard as Sheriff Andy Taylor.
I'll try to think of some others.
