After meeting and shaking Don Knotts last April, I suddenly had some thoughts
about
a Mayberry movie, sense the topic is alive I'll share them with you.

Over the years sense the end of the production of The Andy Griffith Show, crime
has been on the rise and moral values have declined. Time, time, and time again
so many
people have told me that I need put my look a-like status to work. Time, time,
and
time again, I've heard the stories, how we wish that times were again as in the
days
of Mayberry. I am a man of moral values (even though it may not always appear
so)...
...... well .......
I've got the idea that I can restore moral values in America, and the
place to
begin my practice and campaigning is the town that is the center of attention in
America. No other than Mayberry. Mt. Airy, North Carolina.

The movie should be filmed in Mt. Airy using real people in Mt. Airy in
many
roles. Andy has retired an re located to Mt. Airy. Don Knotts comes to visit
with
him.

Even though the deputy sheriff position is not an elected position, there
on an
out door platform in the middle of town (probably on the grounds at the Andy
Griffith Playhouse) is the new guy in town, wearing a deputy uniform and
slinging a pink
plastic water pistol, presenting a campaign speech. This is enough to make Don's
mouth drop wide open and his big eyes pop out when he sees this. He and Andy
look at each other with the same matching expression when they see me.
Obviously, I'm
not a skilled law man, in fact, to Don Knotts, this is rather silly and
somebody's
got to teach me the pro's and con's of the trade.

David Browning of course should be in the movie but not as Barney because
he's a much better actor than me, maybe he should be the mayor or something.

Remember, my whole intent here is to restore moral values in America, where
does the movie go from here?

      Barney
     (Bob Phillips in Glendale/Phoenix, Arizona)

Hello Everyone!
A month or so ago someone posted that there was going to be a course taught
at Alamance Community College on TAGS. Is there anymore word on that? I
sure would like to attend.

Thanks!

He's also gotten experience playing someone with a southern accent ("Driving
Miss Daisy").

The current issue of Reminisce magazine lists our beloved TAGS as a Top Show in
their highlight of 1967; they included a photo of Ange, Goob and Floyd in front
of the barbershop; Goob was even reading a comic book! I felt real proud when
I turned to that page.

I went back to the Inspector episode and I heard the car horn also but I also
noticed a few minutes later when Mr Brady drives up he is honking his horn and
it sounds exactly like the one heard earlier. I wonder if this could have
either been scripted to represent Mr Brady honking on his way to the scene to
let them know he was coming (or to get someone out of his way enroute) or just
someone testing the horn off camera to make sure that it worked properly before
he used it when he drove up in the scene and it got into the scene accidently
that way?

Ben Stiller WOULD make a great Howard Sprague!

>>I agree that it would be hard to do a movie without the originals, but I
am having a BLAST reading all the suggestions. I have a few of my own.
How about Dan Aykroyd as Andy? He has experience as a police officer
(Dragnet) and driving a police car fast(The Blues Brothers) and could
play the part as good as anyone except Andy. Also, how about Ben Stiller
as Howard Sprague?
Also, the movie would have to be in black and white.

Hey to all our Mayberry friends. Our good friend Otis (aka...Ken Junkins)
has asked me to pass this information on to everyone so they can get make
plans. The squad car nations (not for sure if this will be the actual name
of this event) will be Saturday, July 30th in the city of Graysville, AL.
The new mayor of Brent does not want to have the squad car nationals there
again. Ken will give us more information at a later time when everything is
planned. They are not for sure on the cast members that will be attending
this event. But as soon as he gets all the details either myself or Ken or
Jim or even Alan will pass this on. In other words we will be sure to get
the word out. Ken just wanted me to let you all know the date. Have a
great week.
Take care,
Kathy Taylor

The discussion of sound bleed from stage to stage made me think of something
horrible. Times merge in some strange scifi way and we have Wisteria Lane
bleeding into Mayberry. AARGH!!!!

I think we're driving this idea into the ground with a steel screw 100 feet
long. Since I refuse to watch anything on "regular" tv (reality is living
day to day, not watching someone make a complete fool of themselves) I
haven't seen most of the actors some of you have mentioned. Oh, I know them
by name cause I have to - I work crossword puzzles so keeping up with
popular actor's name and modernizisms of the 21st century is important. As
much as I enjoyed Return to Mayberry, I just can't see remaking a remake of
a remake - I guess they'd have to call it Mayberry, the Politically Correct
Version. As Ellen said, NOSIREE!! Not me! We get as close as possible to a
modern Mayberry at Mayberry Days with David Browning, Allen Newsome, Phil
Lee, etc. That's about as good a remake as there ever could be.....

BUT if you absolutely HAVE too - All you need do is get our your tapes or
DVDs, grab your pan of cashew fudge, wedge it between you and your darling
person and relax and enjoy.....Forget a modern Mayberry. They say you can't
go home again and in "reality" you can't but as long as we have our TV Land,
tapes and DVDs we can step back in time....and with that thought - why would
ANYONE want to remake the ultimate? Hollywood doesn't have much creativity
left. Almost every movie made in the last 30 years is a remake and none of
them are as good as the original. Even the sequels aren't as good as the
first ones.

There, I said it and I ain't taking it back, even if I do get a rude!!!!
Now, let's get back to talking about our wonderful cast and episodes. Such
as - here's a trained noticer's notice: In Farmer Takes a Wife....when Andy,
Barney and Jeff Priutt show up at Thelma Lou's house for Jeff to look over
the women of Mayberry, Thelma Lou walks past the men into her kitchen at one
point. There are no doors linking the kitchen to the living room but when
Barney directs Jeff to look over the girls there she is, as if she had
mysteriously reappeared. See? These characters are magic - there ain't no
way anyone can replace them!!!! The quality of mercy is not strained, you
ain't talking to a jerk ya know.....
