Maybe when Bob shook Don Knotts, that's how the idea for the movie "The
Shakiest Gun In The West" came about?

Thanks to Lorraine Beasley for yesterday's comments. Such
words of wisdom are surely appreciated. And you too Anita.
You talked it up real good, too. You girls acted like somebody.
Now for my daily stroll down Mayberry, I guess today I'd risk jaywalking and
see if the Deputy is looking and then
head on over to the Dime Store for some good ole' gossip with Laura Lee Hobbs.
Can't beat that gal for talkin'.

I've got a Mayberry ceramic thimble that I got on Ebay. It's pretty hard
to celebrate with that little container, much less try to "plain guzzle"
with it.

I do believe I purchased a shot glass with a Mayberry theme when I visited Mt.
Airy several years ago for a friend who also collects them. There are several
shops there that sell all kinds of novelties and souvenirs with likenesses of
Andy and Mayberry that I've never seen elsewhere. Happy shopping!

I don't claim to be a trained noticer or anything, but there was a sketch done
before the Super Bowl (and I didn't see all of it) in which a scientist was
creating things to make the game safer. I'm pretty sure the scientist was
Eugene Levy and I thought I could detect some Floyd-like mannerisms, such as
playing with his tie. Did anyone else see that? And am I right in thinking
that Eugene Levy is a TAGS fan and has 'spoofed' Floyd?

Truthfully, at this point...I'm not sure. They told me they don't have
the money to pay the cast members. Sounds like they're trying to get
James Best as he lives in FL and it might not cost as much for him.

Jim Clark will let you know more as we know more.

Sorry but that's all I know right now.

For Valentines, my darling person and I attended a
banquet tonight. As a "security" measure, the Church
where the banquet was held hired a certain Deputy from
Mayberry. Everyone enjoyed it when this Deputy
addressed the crowd. Seriously folks, if you get an
opportunity to attend an event with David Browning you
should. You'll have the time of your life without
getting sick as a dog.

Hi! All,
I just interviewed for a job at the Perryville prison west of Phoenix.
During the interview the gentleman was talking about the safety factor of
having the iron doors protecting me from the inmates. I almost laughed out
loud as I recalled the episode where Barney is trying to impress upon Opie and
his friends what will happen if they keep misbehaving. "No more carefree
hours, no more peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It's just no fun when that
ole iron door clangs shut!"
I am amazed at how "handy" Barney's words of wisdom are in just about every
situation.

Hi yall. My name is Jimmy Dean, a Mayberry fan since TAGS first aired. I did
the map of Mayberry that Allan put on the website. I am a commercial artist
for a living and an Ange fan for everything else. I've read about folks
looking for miniatures of Mayberry buildings; I don't have any of them either.
So
I made my own model of the Courthouse. I did the drawing in Freehand on my
Mac computer and went out to my workshop and cut out the forms from wood and
put
it all together. I coated them with clear acrylic after that. I have given
several away to friends and relatives and such and put mine on my mantel. I
would be willing to make a few for any of you fellow Mayberrians who would
want one as long as it doesn't get to be so many I can't handle it. Since I
don't have a planer and a jointer and all that expensive stuff like Norm Abrams

has on the "New Yankee Workshop", I have to buy finished wood from Lowes to
make them, which is kind of pricey. If anybody wants one, I will do it, but if
it is a whole bunch I could be in trouble since I can't mass produce them.
Also, since I am not a big player in the market like Barn is, I 'd better ask
for twenty bucks each to cover the wood and paper and ink cartridges (which I
use a ton of) and whatever the postage would be. I took a photo of the one I
made for myself. If you will email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) I will send the picture to you. And remember, you
got to be patient.
I can only make them one at a time.; and also, don't be facetious, and don't
put on my hat. I hate it when anybody puts on my hat. My mother is like that
too.
Jimmy Dean down in Dotham, Alabama
(the southeast part of Mayberry, USA)

P.S. As a former musician and bass player for B. J. Thomas in the
seventies, I had the privilege of meeting three members of TAGS' original cast:
 Gomer,
Goober, and Howard. Heck, what more could a feller ask for than that?

I think the 5 & 10ยข in Mt. Airy might have shot glasses with a little
Mayberry medallion or shield attached....

Hey all,

Ya know, being a Native Tarheel, my own hometown could have just about been
Mayberry. I never lived there but a year out of my life, but from what I
can see in pictures and the story my parents have told me....Hamlet, NC sure
could have run close...but, two places I did live after returning home from
the Military in the mid 1970's was Brevard and Black Mountain. Now, of the
two, Black Mountain could have come the closest!

When I first moved there, in 1976, there was one gas station. A small
little building with oil cans stacked in the front window and two gas pumps!
It was right on the main drag on HWY 70 going through the little Mountain
Town. The Proprieter was Margaret Slagle, who was also the town Mayor.

We had on building supply, one corner drug store (Rexall), one hardware
store (owned and operated by Frank and Connie McMeans), one fellow that ran
a small tool rental shop in the basement of another building (he sure could
have been Emmet, the fixit man), One car dealer, one barber shop, and a
bank, etc. The only thing that was missing was a theater! Oh yeah, we
still had a community elementary school where my boys attended (Black
Mountain Elementary School). Annnd...Lake Tomahawk ! (Sure could have
passed a Myers Lake)

At the time I lived there, I don't think we had access to the Andy Griffith
Show reruns, but many times I would othen see the paridy ! I was the
Scoutmaster for the only Boy Scout Troop in town for a while with Troop 50.
I was just an average joe, but the loan officer at the bank knew me by name
and when I needed a small loan, all I had to do was call her and my check
would be ready to pick up when I got off of work. Yes, this was the 1970's
.... My neighbors were slow talking, laid back fellows, one loved to Coon
Hunt, the other loved to collect fire wood.

Oh yeah, we had a couple of small motels. One of them was managed by a
former animator who used to work for Walt Disney. We used to spend hours
talking about those days. And would you believe it, the police station was
on the first corner on main street in former gas station, and it included a
small jail!

Well, things have certainly changed in Black Moutain, the little town has
finally began to grow, although not at the desire of the locals, but you can
go there still and experience some of the flavor of a time gone by! I was
fortunate enough to live there for seven years while it was still a quite
little mountain town.

Well, enough rambling, and of course there is only ONE Mayberry at that one
was on the 40 acres! No substitution really exists.

Talk at yall later, here

Tim Bradshaw
