Some years ago, I purchased a book entitled "Final Curtain". It is very
interesting in that it has every actor and actress of the twentieth century
who has passed away. It has not only the year they died, but their burial
site and how they passed away. I bought the book in the 1990's, so it is
not current, but it is helpful if I am would like to find out information on
someone.

I was thinking about the different gifts the folks in Mayberry would have given
their "sweeties" for Valentines Day??

Andy might have given Helen some oregano or maybe some suntan lotion, but never
hose.
Helen would give Andy some jars of her famous spaghetti sauce
Barney could give Thelma Lou some cashew fudge, or a real mink stole.
Thelma Lou could give Barney some singing lessons.
Aunt Bee can give Briscoe some pearlie onions cause they "twang his buds"
Briscoe can give Aunt Bee a new wooden spoon, for cooking not for beatin'.
Floyd could give Madeline Grayson a trip to Nashville.
Madeline Grayson could give Floyd some games for his two sons Paul and Opie to
play.
Goober could give Lydia a new hair ribbon and Flora a brace for her "sprained
ankle".
Flora and Lydia could get together and give Goober some new hair lotion that
doesn't drip.
Otis could give his wife Rita dinner out with her Mother for a "leg of lamb'".
Rita could give Otis a new mosaic kit to make a new "cow" picture.
Ernest T. could give Charlene a possum he got from under a rock.
Charlene could give Ernest T. a gold tooth that he has been wanting.
Howard could give Millie the gift of shaving off his moustache.
Millie could give Howard some yummies from Boysingers bakery.
Opie could finally give his girlfriend Charlotte that new coat she needs.
Charlotte could give Opie some candy for his friend "Horatio".
Emmett could buy his wife a real fur coat, one that you can look at in bright
lights
Martha could buy Emmett a new cuckoo clock that works right.
Gomer would buy Mary Grace a beautiful corsage in her favorite color
Mary Grace could buy Gomer some new socks with pine cones instead of "akerns".

Andy, Opie, Barney and lots of others had "sweeties" I didn't mention, but I
was hoping some of you would come up with some ideas for gifts they would give
them.

Happy Valentines Day,
Anita Carpenter

I'm wearing my Snappy Lunch green golf shirt today. It's nice, REAL
nice. I think it needs to hit the wash again soon though. I had soup
for lunch and just like Mr. Darling I don't spill on my lap, I spill on
my shirt,

Well, it's Valentine's night and my darlin' person and I just got back
from dinner (we held down the price by not having the shrimp cocktail).
Anway, guess what I got for a gift? A pencil sharpener! As a stared at
my husband, he said, "Well, you're so hard to buy for and you're always
breaking the points off your pencil". Isn't he a scream? Next occasion I
just might have to give him an electric razor that pulls at his skin!

Saw Floyd playing a stage manager on I Love Lucy the other night.
Little Ricky was playing at the Babaloo Club and the ukulele player was sick
Floyd was about to come unglued wondering what to do. Typical Floyd-like acting
and way before TAGS hit the air.

There were several minutes dedicated to Barney Fife on a new episode of The
Simpsons last night. It wasn't Don Knotts' voice, but did sound like him.
Homer was staring at the tv and Barney appeared from inside the Mayberry
courthouse (in black & white) and had an exchange with Homer. My 2 favorite
shows together!

Another couple of things that came to my minds about Black Mountain, NC vs.
Mayberry...I remember once having a letter delivered to me with just my name
and the city with no address, how many post offices could deliver a letter
like that?

In the old hardware store, Mr. and Mrs. McMeans , even in their elder years
personally worked the store. I can never remember going in there and not
getting what I went after. It was personal service and they appreciated it.
They used to tell me about their going to the Hardware Conventions, etc.
The old store had high ceilings and creaky wooden floors and a basement.

The gas station owned and operated by Major Margaret Slagle, as I mentioned
had two pumps. She was the sole employee..owner/operator. She would come
out to fill you gas tank, check your oil and clean the windshield...Yep,
this was in 1976 ! Oh yeah, she even had the oil rag hanging our of her
back pocket.

Just remembering !

Tim
