Actually, it was Police Chief Wiggum that had the
conversation with Barney Fife on the Simpsons Sunday
night. He had fallen asleep at his desk, then awoke
to Barney on his television. Barney was giving advice
to cheer up Wiggum after another bungled arrest. It
was like a speech Andy would give to cheer up Barney!

When I read Tim's comment on his coming close to Mayberry, it sparked
something inside me. My family is from the Mt. Airy/Pilot Mountain area and
I grew up in a very rural community. There have been many Mayberry Moments
for me but the closest I "ever" got to Mayberry was one of the saddest
events, but also one of the most joyous.

My little league coach had a brain tumor, but had no insurance. By the time
the tumor was discovered it was inoperable. The community had auctions, pig
pickings and raffles to raise money to help with the medical expenses.
People were paying $150 for a bird house and $2,000 for a quilt and ate
barbecue for weeks afterward. In short, all the medical bills were paid in
full. When my coach died, his family and virtually the whole community was
present and everyone talked about the impact he had on their lives and the
lives on the children in the community. He passed peacefully and in the
company of those closest to him.

Now, I didn't go all through that to ruin your day. But, I was just
thinking that Mayberry HAS to be like that. I can just imagine Andy
organizing a raffle, Floyd auctioning off free haircuts (no shave, please),
Opie selling salve, aunt Bee baking cakes and pies to sell, Clara canning
pickles, etc. etc. Mayberry is a peaceful place where you know you're safe,
taken care of, and a part of something larger than yourself.

I think even Mr. Weaver would donate an item or two.

HI Mayberrian friends,

I went to the Snappy lunch box
with a friend and she
told me how she was going to Mexico the first
part of March. Well.. I had on light green shirt
and spilled all over it. my napkins did not help me
wherever they were.

Guess..sometimes in life you have to spill
to make your laundry interesting...

I don't want to go to Mexico ..
It's Mayberry or bust for me.......

anyone got any good Mayberry recipes for me?

Lotsa luck to you and YERS....and God's Blessings to all.....

Erin, Mayberry's Midwest Mocha Momma..............

Did any of you see the article in the March Ladies Home Journal, (pg. 147)
where Reba McEntire talked about TAGS and raising kids???? It sure did make me
proud of our Andy!!

LHJ: So you believe that sitcoms can give guidance?
REBA: Oh, yeah. Andy Griffith helped me in raising my son! Before I reacted
to something, I would count to 10 and say to myself, How would Andy have
handled this with Opie?

I sure wish Andy could know that he is still helping people with the show,
don't you?

Opie: The cage sure does look empty...
Andy: Yes son, but don't the tree's look nice and full.......

Well guys, if you want to fess up along with me, I call this Mayberry
Moments on Valentine's Day. (the mistakes us guys inevitable make)

1) Last night I got my signals all crossed...I thought she wanted to
wait until Tuesday night to go out, she really still wanted a nice
supper (even if it was at home where I cook) on Valentines Day) I call
that one "No Dinner at Eight" (in honor of Andy's Oregano experience)

2) In the past I have slipped up with the "Barney Low-Budget Date"
(going for the special instead of soap AND Salad.

3) I have also experienced "Goober Dry Dates" Where I can't think of
nothing interesting to say except askin her about her tires and oil.

4) Oh then just once I made the "Barney Hip-pocket mistake" back when
we were both in the field assuming that I had her all locked up.

5) At times I've also had "Andy Antsy Syndrome" where things were fine
if I would just leave them alone, but I had to get myself all worked up
about something that was none of my business (like a blamed grading
manual)

6) Once I even fell into "Dud's 'Duh" Debacle" where I was spending too
much time with my buddies, socking each other and hollerin flinch or
whatever.

Well that's enough confessions from me, how 'bout the rest of you guys
or gals? Any Mayberry miscues?

Any of you Sharon's out there not noticing your Opie would stand on his
head to get your attention?

Any Lydia's just making excuses instead of trying things?

Anybody ever get caught with a "Fun girl"? (or any other distraction
from your Darling person.

Anybody ever move too fast like Briscoe or Jeff Pruitt??

Anybody ever spread rumors of an engagement that turned our to be
"Barn"-sense?

The Untrained Voice

By the way, Will Wright (Ben Weaver) is listed there but his burial is

The other night on TV Land an episode of Mr. Ed was playing. Wilbur was
visiting a friend who talked him into chopping down a tree to help build some
furniture for a summer camp for children, but his friend didn't tell him the
tree was located on someone else's property. The land owner looked just like
Mr. Weaver from TAGS and his character acted a lot like him, too! In the end,
he had a change of heart and donated the wood to the summer camp instead of
having the men arrested, kind of like Mr. Weaver had a change of heart on the
Christmas episode.

There will be no Mayberry in the Midwest in 2005. They are taking a
break and may start it back up in 2006.

I saw that, it was hilarious! (Only it wasn't Homer, it was Chief Wiggum.)
And did you pick up that it also referenced the movie "Pleasantville," in
which Don Knotts also spoke to people over a TV?
