My, my, my how dating changed in Mayberry over the eight seasons. I just saw
the colored episode where Howard proposed to Millie. He told Andy they had been
dating every night for a month, except for the nights she had to wash her hair.
They planned the wedding the next weekend in West VA and took a train trip up
there with Andy and Helen. To my disappointment, my local station cut out the
part where they ordered in the dining car ... the funniest part of that show.
Anyway, since I'm part of Mayberry group for singles, it got me to thinking
about references to dating in the show. Anybody remember season one A Stranger
in Town, when Ed Sawyer was crazy about Lucy Johnson (I think that was her last
name) Anyway, when Ed said he was going to propose, Andy told him to slow down
and said something like some people don't even hold hands in public for a year.
Of course, there are many references to dating in Mayberry since most of the
main characters were single ... but something clicked when I saw the
Howard/Millie episode they were way on the other end of the spectrum. From not
holding hands in public for one year to a wedding in just six weeks. Anybody
else got any thoughts on this? Cathy, a.k.a. Skippy, one of Mayberry's Fun
Girls in Ohio.

> Paul, does the "progressive scan" DVD players prevent the out-of-sync
problem?? I always wondered what that was referring to.

Not really, but it may help a little bit. Here's a brief explanation:
The image you see on a TV screen is composed of lots of individual
horizontal lines. High Definition signals have more lines; that's why they
produce a much sharper picture.
Older DVD players create the picture on the screen by first displaying every
other line of the image, and then filling in all of the alternate lines.
This is known as "interlacing." This process is repeated several times per
second, so fast that you don't even know it's happening. A "progressive
scan" player creates all of the lines at the same time, so the picture is a
little bit better.

Thanks for all the good answers in the S---- P---- game. Its tougher
that I thought, but a few of you did well to come up with some.
Here are a few more in a salute to that most talked-about Sort-of
Pajamas.
Edgar Coleman probably ended up with Sticky Paste on his fingers.
Barney's Bullet was most often in his Shirt Pocket.
Surprising that Ed Sawyer knew about Sarah's Pinch??
Remember how Barney really goofed things up on that Surprise Party for
Andy and Helen.
I guess Otis just slept in his Suit Pants.
Remember Andy and all that hair is his School Picture in the Cutlass?
I guess Miss Poutice really thought Barney could Sing Party.
We all know Ellie sure could Smile Pretty.
Barney, time to go to the school crossing for Safety Patrol
Was that a Starters Pistol that Barney fired to start the 50 yard dash,
or his real gun?
OK now, go back to your homes and places of business
