I think the episode even made a point out of the fact that Howard and Millie
kind of rushed into it. Of course, I really felt sorry for Howard when Sam
started dating her in "Mayberry R.F.D." and Howard had to hang around them all
the time. (He said he was okay with it but I ain't buyin' it.)
On the other hand, the Fun Girls were obviously not strict followers of the
"holding hands (until) a year" rule, in fact they often held more than that
less than a minute after they spotted Andy and Barney.
Something tells me Andy was pulling everyone's leg when he said they don't
hold hands for a year.

With this talk of dating, I got to thinking about what a perfect date in
Mayberry would be. First of all I would get myself some new accessories to
wear. Maybe a new belt with a horseshoe buckle, a purple tie with yellow
acorns, a new pair of shoes with a buckle on the side, and yellow socks that
weren't too porous so that the hairs on my legs would poke through. I would
start by taking her a box of chocolate deluxe candies when I picked her up.
We would sit around her parlor for a while and I could tell her about the
weather and tell her how nice she looked and how nice the house looked. If
she had a porch, maybe I would take it out there and then lift her up and
swing her around. Then it would be off to an early dinner at Morelli's for
some pounded steak. If we went Dutch treat maybe we would have both the
soup and salad. I would slip the Gypsy a quarter so he would play a song at
our table. After dinner we would go to see The Monster that Ate Minnesota
at the Mayberry theater. After the movie we would stop off at the diner and
have a soda or maybe a chocolate malted with a raw egg in it. Then to top
things off, if I were really bold, I would try to hold her hand while
parking down at the duckpond or Myer's Lake. Then when it got time to take
her home, as we were walking up to her front door, we could run around the
front yard and jump over some bushes and then maybe leap over the fire
hydrants together. Wow, if only I could have a date like that.

Well, Andy and Helen, and Barney and Thelma Lou sure went
slow on the dating leading to marriage scene.
Just a thought--not wishing to start a moulage or anything.
But did any of you ever think that Helen had more in common
with studious Howard than with the more easy-going Andy? I always thought
they'd match up better, but then I didn't write the show.
Anyway, Thel was perfect for Barney. Just took far too long
getting those two hitched. But when they finally did, baby,
they made it sing!

They're gonna release "A Face in the Crowd" this Tuesday, May 10. I have it
already on VHS and it is black and white and has the old classic look, complete
with graininess and all. I don't know if this one has been digitally enhanced
or not. But according to Amazon, it is in color and is widescreen. I believe
I'll wait on ordering until I read some reviews on this version. I may just
rent in from Netflix and see for myself. Maybe I just better talk to
Johnny-Paul Jason about this.

Mother's Day greetings from Ohio. Since my son took his wife out of town for
Mother's Day, I spent a lot of my day watching my Season 1 DVD's. It seems I
was confused regarding my previous post on the 'Stranger in Town' episode, Andy
didn't say anything about folks dating a year before holding hands in public
what he said was sometimes couples have 7 or 8 youngins' before holding hands
in public. I'm really off on my Mayberry trivia and dialouge. I used to be able
to quote it chapter and verse. Hope all you mothers had a great day! Cathy,
a.k.a. Skippy, one of Mayberry's Fun Girl's in Ohio.

Want to wish all the Mayberry Mama's a Happy Mother's Day. Got a great gift
myself, my son reserved a copy of the second season for me, to be shipped the
24th. Now isn't that a great gift. Guess I raised that boy OK. I'm looking
forward to it. I know Barney mentions his mother on several episodes, does Andy
ever mention his? Diane

Never really thought of the gatekeeper in The Wizard of Oz and Barney as
kindred souls, but that could have been (was?) said by both of them.
"Be gone before someone drops a house on you!" Nope. Doesn't fit. Another
character, another part of the movie.
