I loved watching him on TAGS. Some of my favorite Ernest T lines are: "I
ain't no sow's ear and I ain't no creachter." "I wonder who that could be"
when Barney stepped outside and knocked on Andy's door. "Charlene, can you see
me?" "I'm kinda mean, but I make up for it by being real healthy". I also
liked him as an art critic on The Dick Van Dyke Show, hillarious episode made
all the better by his performance.
Good bye Ernest T, I'll bet even Briscoe and the boys are fighting back tears.

I remember Horward Morris at one of the earlier cast reunions - I think
it was Charlotte, 1985. He made mention of the fact that he had grown
children and said, ..."and they still speak to us!" Meaning the grown
children are still fond of their parents. I don't doubt it. I'm sure he
was a wonderful father as witnessed by his son' s announcement of his
passing. I remember my own late father laughing so hard at the exchange
between Opie and Ernest T when Opie said, "Good night, Ernest T. Bass"
and Ernest T said, "Good night, Opie Taylor".

You live on a boat? Half-mast is "by sea". Half-staff is "by land". It is
definitely a sad day in Mayberry to lose our beloved Ernest T. Bass, bless
his rock tossing little ol' pea picking heart. Someone listed a few of their
favorite lines by Bass - my favorite is "Stop that wed'n!" and "Slikkety,
ain't it?".

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Howard, He was a person that no
one will be able to replace,He will always be a star with my family and the
loss will be hard for a long time...
I too lost a special person on april 5 05, my middle daughter Brittney Anne she
was only 19, she was visiting a friend in our town of Hobart Indiana and three
guys kicked in the door to rob the house, there was no money so they shot five
people and killed three, one of them was my daughter and best friend, she was
shot execution style once in the back of the head, they said she died instantly
and was beside her best friend so she was not alone, she would watch Andy
Griffith with me at night and even bought me CD`s for Christmas, Maybe she can
throw a couple of rocks with Howard to pass the time.Again my best to family
and friends......Mike......

I can just see the big smile on St. Peter's face when he opens up the Pearly
Gates and he suddenly hears those immortal words. "It's me it's me, it's
Ernest T." Heaven will never be the same.

I just read your message and I feel absolutely horrible and awful inside. I
too have a daughter, 12 yrs., and the weight of your grief has just simply
leveled me. I can't type and cry at the same time so I'm going to sign off
for now. Gotta' go before I lose it completely. Take care. Sincerely,

I was so sad to hear about Howard Morris' passing. I pray for God to be with
his family and friends in their time of mourning. He may not have appeared on
TAGS many times, but he sure did make a huge impression during those few
episodes. He's always been one of my favorite characters. Rest in peace, Mr.
Morris...

Hello Friends,
As we take the time to remember our dearest Ernest T.
I was picturing Howard Morris...passing through St. Peter's gate
and being greeted by all of our departed cast members....Aunt Bea,
Dick Crenna, Sheldon Leonard, Hal Smith, Jack Dodson, Emma Watson,
Mayor Pike and Stoner, Emmett, Fun Girl, and the numerous others I forgot to
mention.
Just imagine.... God painting and creating a special Mayberry like
scene and atmosphere...for Howie to enjoy for a moment or maybe until the
rest of us
get there. What a comforting thought to be surround by folks you love and
share such a common bond with.
Well, God's Blessing to Howard's family and those of us who morn his
passing.
If David Morris doesn't want to be bothered with "FAN MAIL" we can all
understand that.
But maybe sometime he can read and weep at some of the lasting tributes we
have left.
I wasn't able to meet Howard on earth, but I know we will meet someday
is when.
It will be hard for me going to work in the morning...no I won't throw a
rock, but, I
will sure consider it. As the only one who is a crossing guard... I'm sure
some crazed fan
may fib about that... not me.. I have the gear to prove it.
All I can say now.. is Howard Morris... may god rest his soul..
and "no coffee tea or punch thank you" Thank you sir for giving us many
years of laughter....
Erin, Mayberry's Midwest Mocha momma who is proud to be a crossing guard....

I just read that Howard Morris passed away on Saturday. I met him about
5 years ago at a Winston-Salem Warthogs baseball game. He was signing
his autograph on pictures to raise money for some charity. He was very
nice & was genuinely having a great time. He took the time to speak with
each person that got his autograph. What a blessing he was to the 'TAGS'.

Hey Folks,
We set up an area at "Ernest T.'s Talkin' Place" for folks to share
their memories of Howard Morris. It's more than worth dropping by over
there to read the remarks that have been left so far. So long as you're
there...be sure to leave your one thoughts. This is turning into a
wonderful tribute to Mr. Morris.

I also have an autographed photo of Howard Morris. He's got a rock in
his hand and I think he might just throw it one more time.
I have quite a display in my offices of all of my Andy memorabilia and
am sometimes surprised at the folks that tell me "That's my Favorite
Show"
Of course it is my favorite as well.

I followed through with the Ernest T. "wake" last night wherein I promised
to watch Mountain Wedding in honor of Ernest T. And in true Irish tradition
(remember his folks were from County Cork) I toasted Ernest T with a wee bit
of the Morrison's elixir...Not much mind you.....Then I watched Malcolm at the
Crossroads......
"Never let it be said that Erenst T. ever "spilt" a drop of Irish blood...."
"I'm nice to my besters, and you are one of my worsters...."

As a member of the "Ernest T. Bass is a First-Rate, Grade A, Number-One Nut"
Chapter in the Cambridge, Ohio area, I'd like to pay my respects to Howard
Morris. I often quote the many lines he had as Ernest T. and I'm proud to be a
chapter member bearing his character's name.
