Have you ever seen Don Knotts in a live performance? He does a great David
Browning. I guess it's just the actor of the man.

I got my copies of Season 2 DVD. Good stuff there!! I'm savoring every
half hour I can view of it.

My question is: In the "Opie and the Bully" episode, what is the
picture on Opie's lampshade on his night stand? I have to watch this on
my second DVD player and that one doesn't have the zoom feature.

I watched one of my favorite movies recently, "Summer Magic" and noticed
several TAGS alumni: Trey Bowden, Steve Quincy and several townsmen. What a
treat!

The newspaper said that June 1st is Andy's 79th birthday. And as I remember
, Don Knotts will be 81 in July. Is it the 21st of July? Anybody recall?
Glad they're still with us!

That's awesome you got to go Ted; that was an exciting race and the
weather looked great. Almost as great as Danica Patrick, who gets my
vote for "the perfect female."

Charlie, First of all. this part of the question is easy.

>>>Was the only time that basketball was mentioned on TAGS the time when
Andy said to Opie that he wanted a basketball for his birthday, to use
with the hoop out back (which we never saw)?<<<<

Basketball was also mentioned, strangely enough by Aunt Bee. She
mentioned that she and Clara Edward were (depending on who you listen
to) the best dribblers at Normal School (which we discussed a while
back)

>>One thing you won't have to worry about with The Spurs is another
fight (like the Pacer's/Piston's debacle), as the Spurs are true
gentlemen.<<

Charlie I won't start a moulage here, because I know you didn't mean
that in a hurtful non-Mayberry way, but I will tell you speaking from
Pacer-land that those players are true gentlemen as well (except for
maybe one bully on each team). Reggie Miller in fact is a true Flip
Conroy gentleman.

>>>But if they wuz provoked and had to defend themselves<<<
Don't wish that on anyone because that's exactly what happened. But
just to set the record straight we are friends of the good folks up in
Dee-troit, all those good friends of O-Malley included. Hope your team
back's up your big talk.

Have a Mayberry Day

>>>Another oddity in this one is a scene of Andy's
room. There appears to be a door to the outside, and you can see a tree
or bush outside. Wouldn't that first step be a lulu from the second
floor?<<<

I just got my copy of the second season set and watched this episode last
night. I noticed the same thing. First, I realized that Andy's room looked
completely different than it did in later episodes. Then I noticed the door.
Odd, isn't it?

Remember that Aunt Bee and Clara Edwards were both on the basketball team
for Sweetbrier Normal. They were discussing it on the porch one night and
decided that Aunt Bee was the backbone of the team but Clara was the best
dribbler.

When Aunt Bee's sister and Ollie came for the weekend, Andy asked to see the
paper because he wanted to check out how the Mayberry Bears did. But he
never said if it was football or basketball.

>>>Well it was great to see Jim Nabors here in Indiana for the Indy 500.<<<

Even though I am Hoosier born, I never did follow the 500. But speaking of Jim
Nabors, I just recently purchased his last CD (actually, a 2-CD set) called
"When He Spoke." Though it was apparently released a few years ago, I didn't
know about it until recently when I went to his web site. I REALLY LIKE this
CD set! I have played it many times already. Maybe this was discussed on the
digest when it was first released, but I missed it. Jim's voice is superb! It
has lost none of its quality over the years. If you like Christian music and
you haven't heard it yet, check out "When He Spoke."

On a different note, someone a while back posted a message asking if Jim Nabors
were a homosexual. Now, I don't believe it at all, and I wouldn't even bring
the subject up, but I recently came across something that may explain the
origin of this unfortunate rumor. There is a page on Snopes.com, a web site
that researches urban legends, about an urban legend was started back in the
early '70's when someone mailed out an engraved invitation to the "wedding" of
Jim Nabors and Rock Hudson. It was actually an invitation to a big party and
was done entirely as a joke -- the joke being that Rock Hudson would become
"Rock Pyle." (This, by the way, was many years before it became known that
Rock Hudson actually was a homosexual.) I only mention this, because I think
it both explains and DISCREDITS the aforementioned rumor about Jim. If you
want to read the whole story yourself, go to:

HI Friends,

Yes, the season 2 edition came JUST before the holiday weekend,
Thank you all at Weaver's!!!! My Darling person would not buy it for me,
so I bought it for myself -- a reward for not throwing rocks or breaking out
of jail.

Now for my mayberry moment.... My darling person had a birthday earlier
this month
Since he is not a fan of TAGS ( GO FIGURE?) I was looking in Weaver's and
bought a shirt of the Dukes of Hazzard. In the meantime I bought myself a
Mayberry shirt.

Well...being a sneaky wife.... I wrapped each shirt separately ( in
kitten wrap paper)
I put the TAGS one on top and the DUKES box on the bottom...

He opens the TAGS one... saying OHH ( with a HUGE Disappointing sound)
This is .....gre....at....

I said ...you hate it.... He said .......................No............I
...........Don't.........

then I had him open the second box.............. this had the DUKES t
shirt in it........
NO THAT IS MORE LIKE IT ....he said....

I said "cool ......give me my shirt back because that one was always
intended for me...."

he laughed and tried the shirt on ........

Good old WEAVER"S...............

Smiles,

Do you collect Jim Nabors music? I have a comedy record by him done in his
Gomer Pyle voice. Some of the tracks are great. It's an out of print LP
titled : Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (2). I heard about that rumor way, long
ago. I still think it's big-time DUMB! -----A.Acevedo, MPk.

I didn't know Eddie Albert died, Gary! :-( First Ernest T. and now
Oliver. *sigh* May both these giants rest in peace.

The Untrained Voice: "In Opie and the Bully, has anyone noticed the picture
right outside Opie's room in the hallway?? It looks familiar but I'm not
sure what it is."

I noticed the exact same thing over the weekend, TUV. That pic looks
awfully familiar to me too but I can't place it. Does anyone else know? I
d like to have a print to hang in my house. :-)

Did you have fun in Linton, Ted? My brother-in-law and family live in
Bloomfield, not too far from Linton. He works in Crane. Small world! I'm
way up nawth, in Michigan City.

Well, better get moving.... I'm washing rugs today. Have a good one,
everybody!

And away I go~ Alice Kramden who morphed into Aunt Bee when she moved to
Mayberry
