"I watched one of my favorite movies recently, 'Summer Magic' ..."
My first amazement at google.com: For years the phrase "pink of perfection"
had been bouncing around in my head. I knew it was from a musical number. I
asked "experts" in musical theatre; no one had ever heard it. Google came into
existence, I typed it in, and "Summer Magic" appeared. I found a tape, watched
it and, sure enough, there was the phrase. I became a fan of google for life.

Anyone got that beagle answer?
Is it........
In the episode A Feud is a Feud. When Andy goes to visit Mr. Wakefield and
they are sitting together talking on the porch.
My husband and I always thought it was funny to see that dog just sitting
there behind Andy.

That would be "A Feud Is A Feud". He/she is on a table on the porch at Mr.

A Merryberry moment. Haven't we all had them and aren't our days brightened
considerably when we do.
My moment came a few weeks ago while I was sitting in the car waiting for my
darling person to make a mad dash into
the local Wal-Marts. Out in the parking lot, I observed an
elderly couple wondering around and after a while it was pretty obvious they
were lost and looking for their car.
Finally, they separated, and a few minutes later the man started "hooting" sort
of Gomer-like. There the poor man stood by a black car just hooting away.
My husband came out and asked if he could be of any help and the older man said
he was trying to get his wife's attention (the poor thing was still wandering
aimlessly around and around the parking lot). Apparently, she didn't know of
the Gomer code
of "hoot like a hoot owl" when you spy your goal" and maybe
she wasn't paying attention to her husband's hoots. Or maybe
she just had her mouth full of peanuts and couldn't hear right.
In any event, they were finally rescued and my hubby and I
have had a wonderful time remembering that poor guy hooting
his heart out by the black car. Gomer would be proud.
Lydia, I hate whistles. I don't mind hearing a forceful hoot now and then. But
I just hate whistles and buzzers.

I saw A Face in the Crowd a couple years ago on TCM, and I gotta tell you
Andy's performance shook me to the marrow. I can't imagine why he didn't get
an Oscar for that and I also don't understand why he never received an award
for any of his TV work. Years ago (before I'd ever seen many TAGS), Andy
played a judge who locked up a couple girls for a traffic violation (I think).
During the time the girls were jailed, one was sexually assaulted by a guard.
I vividly remember Andy's performance as that judge and I despised him. He was
so convincing as being the bad guy, I didn't think I could ever watch him in
anything and like him. Then I became acquainted with TAGS and am totally
charmed by the man. Does anyone know the title of the aforementioned TV movie?
Kind behind the eyes.

Good question! It's Mr. Wakefield's dog in "A Feud is a Feud."
Now for another dog-spotting question, maybe a little harder: Where in
Mayberry can one see a picture of a Saint Bernard?

There was a dog on the porch with Andy and Mr. Wakefield (or Carter) on the
episode where the couple wanted to get married and their feuding daddies
wouldn't allow it. I think that was a beagle. He was a cute little dog,
too.
Also, someone brought up a movie about Mayberry. I really hope that they
don't do one like they have with Bewitched and other shows such as Dukes of
Hazzard. I just think you'd never be able to do anything as good as the
original, and that no one could take the place of any of the people in the
show. I'm upset enough that someone else besides Denver Pyle is playing
Uncle Jesse - imagine finding someone to take the place of Barney, Andy,
Aunt Bee, Opie, or any of our beloved Mayberry citizens! I'm not saying all
this to be negative, but to be very positive in my love for TAGS just the
way it is!! :) Y'all have a Mayberry day...Lisa

Bob, these are guesses on my part. Is there a beagle amongst the pack of dogs
that follow Aunt Bee and Opie when they have that wagon load of meat? Or
perhaps there was a beagle in the Dogs, Dogs, Dogs episode (which contains one
of my favorite Barney lines, "Giraffes are selfish").

In episode #8, "A Feud Is A Feud", when Andy visits Mr. Wakefield to try to
convince him to call off the feud, there is a beagle laying on a table on the
porch behind where Andy and Mr. Wakefield are sitting.

My guess for the beagles trivia questions is episode "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs," but
that answer seems too obvious, so I am going to assume I am wrong and it is
another episode.

The episode is "A Feud is a Feud". The beagle is on the front porch of the
cabin (can't remember if it was the Wakefields cabin or the Carters) when Andy
is trying to find out what started the feud by talking to the feuding daddies.
I could be more specific if I "cheated" by getting out the DVD and watching it.
But what is the challenge in that?

>>>Also, as I watched Mayberry Goes Bankrupt the other day, I wondered if
the final scene in front of Frank Myers house featured the most actors
born in the 1800's.<<<
I don't have answers to either of your questions, Bob, but something else
occurred to me. I, too, watched "Mayberry Goes Bankrupt" a couple nights ago,
and something struck me. Now, I haven't had time to go back and look at this
more closely, but after a first viewing, it seemed to me that Frank Myers'
house at the end of the episode (after it had been painted and fixed up) was
not the same house that was shown earlier in the episode. Earlier, the house
looked like it sat by itself out of town, but the house as it appeared at the
end of the program appeared to be in town, close to other houses. It *would*
make sense, of course, to use two different houses so that they wouldn't have
to actually make the cosmetic changes to the house that were required by the
script. I'll have to go back and look at that!

Don't even think of gettin' in if you aint a plunger!
Liberty Head nickels were minted from 1883 to 1912. "Miss Liberty" was
replaced the following year by the Indian, or Buffalo, nickel.
>
But five 1913 nickels depicting "Miss Liberty" were minted illegally,
possibly by a mint official. They were never put into circulation and
were considered illegal to own for many years because they were not
regular issue. The coins surfaced in the 1920s.
