Lucas Mccain was the lead character on the TV western "The Rifleman," and
like Sheriff Andy, was a single father.

Altho it's not from the same episode, I always crack up when I hear Barney
say, "Stalking, that's my number one job Andy, not fly killing"

Lucas McCain was "THE RIFLEMAN". Played by Chuck Connors, he was a widower
and father of Mark (Johnny Crawford).

One of the all time best lines is when Barney is making a fake phone call so
Thelma Lou will think he's talking to another girl. The phone rings while
he's talking into it and Andy says "Will you get that, you're closer."

I use that line all the time at work. I'll talk into someone office and
their phone will ring. I deliver the line and they just think I'm some sort
of a nut.

I am just amazed in the episode of "Barney and the Choir" that Barn is
absolutely clueless of the reactions of others regarding his singing
voice. It just goes to show that he is "nave" about some things.

In the 50's and 60's there was a product called O.J.'s Beauty Lotion,
which no self respecting southern female person would ever be without.
It was a witch hazel product, and I know Aunt Bea and the rest of the
Mayberry ladies would have it, it might even be visible in the drugstore
if we look hard enough. When I got a bad sunburn on the beach in
Charleston, one of the ladies in our hotel who took care of our room
told me to use witch hazel on it, so my sister went to Wal-Mart, which
was right next door to our hotel, and bought a bottle. When we opened
it, we both recognized that scent as O.J.'s Beauty Lotion! I don't
think they sell it anymore.
