I'm not old enough to remember watching The Show in first run either, but
I'm fairly certain they came after the epilogue and before the end credits.
Originally, there were cast commercials at the beginnings of the episodes as
well, but these aren't included on the DVDs. After the announcer said "also
starring Don Knotts," the camera cut to a close-up of Opie's rock splashing
into the water, and the announcer continued with "... brought to you by ..."
and then they went to the ad. I don't think they made a new one for each
episode; I'm pretty sure they just made a handful of them and used them over
and over.
One of these opening ads showed Andy and Opie on the shore with Gertrude
(their rowboat) with a voiceover of the two of them singing the following
jingle: "You know a cereal will please you most, when it comes to you in a
package from Post, 'cause all Post cereals happen to be, just a little
better, a little bit better, a little bit better than any other cereal
happens to be!"

They ran after the epilogue and before the closing credits, although there
was always a closing sponsor billboard after the cast commercial and before the
credits. (The closing billboard would actually show Andy and Opie getting out
of a boat at the lake and holding up the fish they just caught, as the
announcer said, "The Andy Griffith Show has been brought to you by..." Then a
shot
of the product as he said "Sanka" or "Post Cereals" or whatever was advertised
that week.)

It is always good when we see new members joining us in the neighborhood. It
makes me wonder how many folks we have now. We haven't really heard in quite a
spell.

Allan,
Can you post the number of WBMUTBB members by state? Just curious what
states are most represented here...

I was watching one of the Thin Man movies the other night and Sheldon Leonard
was the bad guy. And I believe our fat little mayor was one of the detectives
investigating the murder. I couldn't really tell, but it sounded like him and
kinda looked like him. I only saw him from the side and back. Seems to me
there was one other TAGS actor in that movie, but I can't think who it was.
The plots of those movies are so confusing, with all the red herrings they drag
around, that my attention was focused on trying to figure out who done it.
Sheldon didn't do it, but he planned the murder and had his girlfriend do it
while he had an alibi. He was hoping to be tried and then acquitted. I guess.
Crimes were a lot easier to solve in Mayberry.
Kind behind the eyes.
Why do you have to be a nonconformist like everybody else?
