A lot of new folks here in Mayberry! When y'all get settled in, come on
down to Floyd's Barber Shop and see for yourself what Floyd's is all about.
Bring the whole family. It might get a bit crowded but Floyd will make room.
Moms, you get a special invite from Floyd himself. This way when hubby is
gone all day, you can rest assured that the only place he's gone is "gone
Floyd's!"
Saf-T-Pops for the tykes, gum for the big kids, witch hazel for the gents.
Floyd has a little something for everybody. We know you'll enjoy Mayberry,
it's a way of life like no other!

We are leaving with eighteen souls on Saturday morning for our church youth
trip to Washington, D.C. for a Week of Hope project. I wanted to stop by the
White House to see the President, but guess he will be somewhere's else at this
time. Does anyone know if he is a TAGS fan? I wanted to tell him, TAGSRWC says
hey! If he were a fan, too, maybe I could get him to do a JU-DEE,
JU-DEE
.JUD-EEE!" (Or would that be a Cha-nee, Cha-nee
.Cha-neeeee!) I know
that if he invited me in that I had planned to tell him No coffee, tea or
punch
thank you! Hope I haven't gotten too political here, but it is D.C.,
after all. Some humor would not hurt the place one bit.

Had my dental check-up this morning and had an unexpected Mayberry moment.
My dentist has one of those computer screens that show soothing images from
nature...to make you forget that someone is poking and scraping your teeth.
Anyway, one of the images was a herd of elephants standing outside in a
lightning storm. Just standin' around, lookin' out for #1, getting' struck
by lightning. No dogs, as far as I could see.
I wonder if Opie Taylor D.D.S. had one of those "electronal marvel" computer
screens in his office.

Thanks for the info, Paul and Dixon, it mostly fits in with what I remember.
I did find it interesting that the Sponsor Spots on the DVD's are at least
marginally connected to the episode they appeared with, and sometimes
featured the episodes guest actors. Jack Prince and the actress who played
nurse Mary Simpson are in the spot for "The County Nurse" for example.
On another note, I have just watched an episode I rarely see in reruns on TV
Land or elsewhere, "Cousin Virgil". IMO, it is one of the weakest episodes
of the B&W years. The writing seems a bit off, the story is weak and poorly
resolved, and Michael Pollard doesn't seem in sync with the tone of the show
at all. Andy and Don both seem a little ill at ease to me, as well. Please
note, this is just my opinion, I know I'm probably "trashing" someone's
favorite episode, but I would be interested in your thoughts.
Kind Behind the Eyes,
Scott

The recent discussion about the location of the sponsor spots and the closing
billboard reminds me that the original closing credits showed Andy and Opie
leaving the fishin' hole, with the sponsor's logo or logos displayed on the
lower right corner of the screen.
On the ones I've seen, Opie drops a fish and runs back, picks it up, shoves
into his pocket, and then catches back up with Andy. For a while, our local
station's print of "Mountain Wedding" had that closing on it (complete with
Post logos). This was back in the early '90s, and I still have a copy of that
which I taped off the air back in those days.
Obviously the credits displayed over the "generic" background were created to
be run after the series left the network and big-time sponsorship. It would
have been nice if Paramount had included the original closings, however, for
nostalgia's sake.
I'm not complaining though! The Paramount releases are truly outstanding and
I'm very grateful for the quality and care they put into them. They have done
a remarkable job.

One used today that hasn't been on a list: IMO--in my opinion. Or for those
who wish to appear more open--even if we're not: IMHO--in my humble opinion.
