Not to be nitpicky, but Jeff was a farmer, so he must have lived on flatter
land than did the Darlings. Maybe he lived out near Frankie Flint and her
daddy. Come to think of it, Frankie would have made a good wife for Jeff. She
could do farm chores like a man, but she was soft, too, and would have been
light as a feather in Jeff's strong arms. Guess she must have already gotten
hitched to one of those neighbor boys by the time Jeff was ready to settle down.

In Lawman Barney, right after Floyd tells Wally he has the best pop in
town, Floyd emerges from behind the gas pump and the words he's speaking
are not the same as is coming out of his mouth. Whatever he originally
said was overdubbed later. I've watched this about half a dozen times
and if you look close you will see it too. It's about at the 3:25 mark
of chapter 3. When the shot changes to a close-up, the dialog is back
on track.
My question is, are there any good lip readers out there that can
decipher what was originally said?

Dear Nancy and my other Mayberry Friends,
Nancy was concerned that we have been writing about Andy
liking other girls rather than Helen. I wrote that the chemistry between him
and Helen was the poorest of all his
girlfriends. Now, I still stand behind that statement.
But, no one should read that as any kind of disrespect for
Helen and especially not for Ms. Aneta Corsaut, a lovely
person and a talented actress.
Ms. Corsaut was only able to play the part as it was written for her. And the
part of Helen couldn't have been
all that much fun for her to play, at least it wouldn't have been to me. But an
actress has to play the part the
way it is written for her. Maybe Ms. Corsaut enjoyed playing Helen a lot.
Maybe there were things about her she
would have liked to have changed. I don't know. I do know
this.
While the men characters enjoyed some of the best humor that has ever been
written, the parts as they were written
for most of the main women were either childish or boring (an exception being
with the extra players like the Fun Girls or the Lady Convicts--their humor was
on par with the men's). Very little of the main women's parts had depth and
almost none of it had real humor. So, Ms. Corsaut, as well as the other
ladies, did
the best she could with what she had to work with.
Some of
the best writers in the world worked on TAGS and they gave those ladies very
little to work with, I'm afraid.
This is my opinion. And you may disagree with me. But ask yourself how many
real laughs did you get from one of the main women characters? Were they bad
actresses? Or could it be the material?
I don't think anyone meant to do harm. It was just the way
things were. Men got the belly laughs, and women were more
respected. For example, Helen was a teacher. They did not
think they could ever show her doing anything that might
put her in a negative light. The same with Aunt Bee. And this was taken to
extreme degrees by today's standards.
Anyway, this is how I see things. I often thought of Helen
as someone I doubted Andy would really like in "real life"
because she bossed him around too much. But then Aneta Corsaut was probably a
doll in life.
I hope I haven't offended anyone in writing this. The women were great actors
in TAGS. All I meant was they did not get (the main women did not get, the
extras often received equal quality)
the same quality material as far as humor goes as the men got.

"Then when Andy took off in Goober's truck, he didn't close the tailgate. Seems
to me all that stuff would have just flown off the back
as Andy sped away."
I thought about the open tailgate and the stuff flying out, also, one time when
I was watching this episode. It sure seems to me like they would have ended up
a few sandwiches short of a picnic since the tailgate was open.

"I thought Hoke Howell payed dud for the rest of the TAGS series. If it wasn't
Hoke then, who was it."
Hoke Howell played Dud Wash twice ("The Darlings Are Coming" and "Mountain
Wedding"). Bob Denver played Dud Wash once in "Divorce, Mountain Style". If
Hoke Howell had played Dud in "Divorce, Mountain Style", it would have been
harder, if not impossible, for Andy to throw Dud out of the courthouse by the
seat of his britches the way he did since Hoke Howell was a somewhat larger
person than Bob Denver.

I was watching the movie "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and there was Floyd
playing the part of a Congressman. I believe the movie was made in 1961.
Always fun to see a Mayberry cast member in something else.

Is anyone fimiliar with a website that you can put in a stars name and see all
the movies they have appeared in? I think it would be fun to look up our
Mayberry friends to see what they have done before and after Mayberry.
