Personally, I'm glad they showed Pickles in some of the DVD episodes. She is
hilarious in the episode where Buddy thinks she's cheating and winds up socking
Rob. That was good comedy writing for a woman.

"He exchanged me for a computer date with some chick who's no good for him. You

Now Lydia, I recall Goober talking to Andy about being upset. It seems he saw
a certain gentleman's car parked in front of your house one evening when you'd
refused a date with him (claiming a headache). Girl, you drove him into the
arms of a computer date. Shame on ya!

>If it were a trip from NC to La, it would be DOWN not UP. At least that's
>how it was back when I was in school.

>Actually, it should be "over there"... Up means away from the earth and
>down means toward the center of the earth...

Not sure about down to earth or up in space but I've always referred to
turning the AC DOWN if I want it cooler but because most of the world
revolves around heaters I am often corrected that just because someone says
"Turn the air up." they still mean for it to ultimately be cooler. Down town
or Up Town doesn't mean dig a hole or go fly a kite. If this were 1919 or
1942 "over there" would have a totally different meaning. My father used to
say he was going "Down town" when it was only 1/2 mile to the west.

Lydia, you're a scream! I get a kick out of your postings. Meanwhile, I believe
I read somewhere that Andy said he could never quite warm up to any of the
girlfriends till Helen. I noticed that she was more reserved and ladylike than
the others except for the first nurse Mary (the tall, dark-haired one) - she
was too; I feel that Andy wasn't comfortable with vampy types and didn't want
too much overt sensuality in Mayberry. Look how uncomfortable he seemed with
that lady prisoner.

With all this talk about Andy and his women folk, I can't help but comment.
I think it would have been great if Andy would have had another show after
Mayberry. He could be with Mavis Neft and it could have been called "The
Odd Couple Part Two". I think that would have been a real giggle. Just
thinking about Mavis makes me "bubbly wubbly" all over.

Took my aged but still lovely cat, Miss Pearl, with me to the Dime Store to
pick out matching bows for our hair.
(Miss Pearl loves to come in to town with me and shop).
Miss Pearl loves Laura Lee Hobbs and all; the only thing that makes her nervous
is passing by the barber shop. Seems
that when she was a kitten, a young Floyd was always practicing cutting hair by
cutting on cats. Now our Floyd is a wonderful human being and has never harmed
a living soul.
But he has shaved a few cats in his time. Enough so that
Miss Pearl still gets a little shaky whenever we pass by
his shop.

Lydia, "We can't hold a candle to the tales that come out of Floyd's."

You are *soo* right @ Miss Ellie. She was TAGS' best female, by far.
Thankfully, I never had to worry about her alienatin' the affections of my
dreamboat, Ernest T. Tread lightly fellers, you know, gals like Peggy "look

The actress who played Buddy's wife, Pickles, was Barbara Perry. She had
several small parts in various TAGS episodes. She was in both class reunion
episodes and was in the episode where Barney sends all the ladies to Andy's
house so he can pick a wife. She was also in one or two more episodes, but I
can't remember which. The character of Pickles on DVD was different from any
of the characters she played on TAGS. Her TAGS characters all appeared to be
rather normal people. Pickles was a bit of a nut, in my opinion, in addition
to being a lousy cook, and not overly bright. But Pickles was a fun character
and Barbara Perry did a fine job of portraying her.

We were watching Gunsmoke on TV Land this weekend and on one episode there were
two TAGS alumni, James Best and Ron Howard. Alway love to see our folks on
other shows.
