The 7th Annual WMBUTBB Silent Auction during Mayberry Days was another
huge success thanks to all the great people who donated and spent time
helping out with the bidding (many on both sides of the table). This
year we raised $3,822.75 for the Surry Arts Council to help with
hosting Mayberry Days and many other arts programs in Mount Airy.

This year we had 25 people donate over 80 items to the auction. We had
tables and bid sheets overflowing, so it was a success all around. On
behalf of the Surry Arts Council, a special "I 'ppreciate it" to each
of you who helped in their own way.

p.s. An additional $135 came in after my TAGSRWC meeting report, so the
$3,687.75 announced on Saturday was low.

It occurred to me that the lady with the twins may have left them with Barney.
I remember an episode where a lady left her baby named "Jeremy" at the jail
every time she was in town shopping. Barney and Andy took care of him, which
irritated Mayor Stoner. I'm sure Otis would babysit if someone was in a pinch
though.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Doug and Rodney Dillard are scheduled
to perform at the Mullet Festival in Swansboro,NC on October 8th. I was
looking at the Mayberry Events calender and noticed that it wasn't listed.
I work in Swansboro and we have a poster hanging up with their concert
listed.
Just thought I'd let y'all know.
Have a Mayberry kind of day,
Kim

For those of you who didn't attend the official TAGSRWC meeting at Mayberry
Days this past Saturday, our very own Gary Wedemeyer won the prestigious Jim
Swenke (I hope I spelled that right) Award! Unfortunately Gary wasn't at the
meeting, so he wasn't there to personally receive it. But since he's a humble
kind of guy, I thought it only proper to brag for him. I couldn't think of a
better recipient for the award.

10-4 over and under,

Dennis

Hey folks,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to Jim Clark and the
members of TAGSRWC for awarding me the Jim Schwenke Memorial Award during
Mayberry Days this year. My only regreat is that I wasn't there to receive it
in person.

To be mentioned in the same breath with Mr. Schwenke is an honor in itself. I
don't feel like I have done anything to deserve this award. I consider all of
us, performers and fans alike, to be one big family. And family "does" for
each other. That's the Mayberry way. So many of you have done so much for me
that I wish to share this award with the entire "family".

I had every intention to be at the meeting this year. I got a phone call right
before I was heading into the Cinema. I have 2 children and they both had
places they had to be, in different locations at the same time, so I was
summoned home to be the driver for one.

I got a call on my cell phone on the way home telling me about the award. I
just about turned around and headed back. When I got home and completed my
driving chores there were several e-mails from folks congratulating me on the
award.

On Monday I got a call from Tim White, the banjo playing VW Boy, who is also a
local DJ. We are working on a project together and he asked if I could come by
the station. When I got there he told me to sit and talk a while with him on
the radio about Mayberry Days this year. He then surprised me and presented me
on air with the award.

Sorry to be so long-winded. Anyway, thanks again for this award. I am humbled
and honored and I accept this award on behalf of our entire Mayberry family.

Gary

Good question about secrets that stay In Mayberry

>From a practical standpoint just about everything that happens in
Mayberry stays in Mayberry (other than anything leaked to the
Mendlebright sisters or Laura Lee Hobbs at the Dime Store) but I know
what Aunt Bee means, secrets that are kept. Good list already submitted
of all the times Andy covered for Barney.

The fact that the Gold truck was a decoy?

The fact that Aunt Bee's Cousin was a fake and not a world traveling
entrepreneur.

The fact that Jim Lindsey was broke.

The fact that the Guest of Honor was a Pickpocket

The fact that Opie really was safe at home on that call by umpire Andy

The fact that Glen Cripes sang and Barney just lip-synced for the choir

The fact that Bobby Fleet's Band pretended to be the Mayberry Marching
Band

How Earnest T escaped Jail

The fake gas leak to allow Gomer to save Andy's life

The fact that Barney and Gomer really were lost in the woods while
camping

The fact that Goober putting The car together in the Courthouse really
was against Andy's wishes

All those secretes in Opie's second newspaper

OK, I'll stop there..some else keep it going

Sorry to hear of the passing of another good law man, Maxwell Smart
