Reading about the passing of Don Adams reminded me of an episode where 99's
mother came to visit, and she was none other than Sally the convict. I imagine
there are other Mayberry alumni shown on Get Smart also. It's kind of funny
that since Get Smart deals with a lot more criminals than TAGS, that Jane Dulo
would be a criminal in Mayberry and a non-criminal on Get Smart.

I wish TV could go back to having good and funny shows like TAGS, Get Smart,
TDVDS, I Love Lucy, etc.

Howdy Fellow Mayberrians!
I just wanted to say that I had the best of times at Mayberry Days this year.
Even though attendance seemed to have been down, it was a very peaceful
weekend. I enjoyed every minute of it. And I want to toot my own horn just
a minute! This year I was one of the winners of the 1st annual "Mayberry
Idle" contest. I was so proud. You would have thought I had won the real
"American Idol" and I couldn't have been happier if I had. I loved singing
at Colonel Tim's Talent Time and the best part was being backstage with all
the stars and getting a great big hug from David Browning!! What a weekend!

Shoot, you think that was somethin', I was a finalist for the 1989 Mr.
Schwump Memorial Trophy (it's actually the Apricot Festival Trophy, we just
change the plaque on depending on what's going on), but I lost out Henry
Wheeler. Wouldn't you know we were having a big aphid outbreak and he'd
just happen to be in town spraying roses. Otherwise, that trophy woulda
been mine!

Watching Green Acres the other night and I counted 6 TAGS alumni in a single

Hi Everyone!
I am a fan of Ron Howard(actually a fan of everyone on TAGS) & I watch
Arrested Development, which our Ronnie narrates. On Monday nights show(8pm est
ch5) The Bluth dad was looking for a new lawyer & said he was hiring Andy
Griffith!!! Andy's name was then mentioned throughout the show & Ron even made
a
little joke at the end. Since they did mention Andy as the lawyer in the
suit...I knew they were referring to his role as Matlock, but I just LOVE
hearing
anyone & anything related to TAGS! Made my night! God Bless!

Some of my 2005 Mayberry Days hightlights...

-Witnessing "The King of Mayberry" Dennis Beal win the Trivia contest
(All Hail!) and the 1st annual Chester Jones "Two-Face, Cheatin' Liar"
Checkers Tournament, AND be awarded the 2005 Mayberry Friendship Award.

-Seeing Gary Wedemeyer's much deserved award before he did.

-Spending time visiting my both my real family (Mom & Dad) and my
Mayberry family.

-Totaling up the bids for the Silent Auction ($3,822.75!)

-Seeing kids running around in TAGS sleep pants at the hotel.

-Watching the parade with friends at our regular spot on Main Street
and seeing the Barney Chapter Cave Rescuers on the front page of the
Mount Airy News.

-Laughing with the Mayberry Deputy, Floyd, and all the tribute artists
at Colonel Tim's.

-Seeing all the tributes to Howard Morris and knowing how much his son
David enjoyed the festival.

-Getting to know more about Elinor Donahue at Professor Brower's
Lecture.

-Singing along with LeRoy Mack McNees on Sunday morning.

It certainly was big again this year.

Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday to me,
I got season two,
Now I need season three.

My birthday is today. I wish Andy, Barney, Otis and that new state inspector
was here. Me and Otis could have double birthday party. Well, you can't have
everything.

I celebrated my birthday with my family Sunday. It was great! My boys went in
together and bought me the TAGS season 2 DVD set. They said that season 3
might be coming real soon. I'm hoping to see it it my stocking Christmas
morning.

We had a great dinner and sat down and watched some of the shows. We watched
"The Manicurist" while we ate some cherry pie and coffee. It was gooooooooood.

know when I've seen nature spend so much time on one person!"

My good friend Kenneth wrote: "Andy was always there to bail out Barney. Funny
how he would not bail out Opie when
he broke a window, but he always would Barney. Makes you thank."
It surely would make you thank under the thankin' bucket especially when Andy
would go to such great lengths and sometimes personal pain to prevent imparting
negative news
to the adults in his orbit. (ex. "Dinner at Eight"--Look at how far he went
just to keep Helen happy; he didn't even explain that a mistake was made; never
once did he put the blame squarely on Goober for mixing up the dinner
invitations. Well, he did threaten
him, but Goober knew it was an idle threat, heard by no one else.)
The easiest answer, of course, is that Andy was raising Opie and was
responsible for his character. He was in no
way responsible for the character of Barney or Aunt Bee or
either the "good" girls or the "fun" girls. And yet a good
portion of Andy's life was complicated by trying to keep
everyone happy and that often involved smoothing their wounded egos. Why was
Andy this way? Yes, he was a nice person, but a person can be kind without
upsetting his own
life just to flatter another.

I got to wondering about this while recovering from dental surgery. Why would
any one person complicate his
own life so much--to in effect lie--just to make another
happy for a few minutes? Did he feel overly-blessed and
guilty? Theky were friends and family. I'm sure Andy felt
he was doing what was best. But did he really?
I guess I'm getting too deep here. Pain will make that happen to a person. It
was a comedy, after all.

I am always in awe of how well Keevey can play that guitar, even though it
has no cord and he never touches the strings and never changes chords. He
also never uses a microphone and neither do his back up singers. Can you
imagine how great he would sound if he would have borrowed that sensitive
microphone from John Masters? They must do things differently in Raleigh
than they do in Mayberry. Even Opie's little band had their electric
guitars plugged in. I am just disappointed that we never got to here Fergie
play his accordion.

First off, I wish for Michael Hoover a speedy recovery from his injured
knee. I know he had to have been in pain Saturday night, but he did his part of

the show anyway!!
This was a great time, once again. Friday was hot....very hot!! Saturday was
very comfortable. We arrived Thursday so we could get in Snappy Lunch with
ease and get our pork chop sandwiches. As we were walking to Snappy's, the
first ones we saw were the Newsomes, who had already had their sandwiches so
we
went on in to get ours. As usual, they were unbeatable! After that, we made
our way to the visitor center and enjoyed that, but were disappointed there
was
no flower show this time.
We then stopped at the Emporium for some shopping. I was not going to get a
new shirt this year, but when I saw Ernest T on it, I had to have one! What a
great tribute to a great star!
Friday we went by the Post Office and got our annual postmarks, then hit a
few of the stores. Along the way we met old friends we have gotten to know over
the past 8 years of Mayberry Days.
Amazing turn of events happened at the trivia contest. Pat Bullins was
unseated as the champion! She came in second after 5 years of winning first
place.
I didn't catch the name of the winner but someone will let us know! After
the trivia contest the internet chapter of TAGSRWC had our meeting and
introduced ourselves.
After that was over, we took our baths and got all cleaned up (On Friday,
for goodness sake!)for the Michael Hoover show in the theater, and it was a
fantastic show! I urge any who have not been, go see it next year!
After this show, we stopped at Burger King for a bite to eat, then when we
got back to the hotel I suggested stopping in the hospitality room for some hot
chocolate. Soon after we got there, George Spence came in and sat next to my
wife, Carol, and announced in his booming bass voice, "Does anyone know
where I can get some Tums?" It seems he and his wife had overeaten at
Sagebrush
and now he was paying for it! It happens Carol carries Tums with her now,
since the chemo kind of messed up things and well as getting rid of the bad, so

she gave him some! Then in came Leroy and Jan McNees and he played his guitar
and dobro, leading us in singing some old songs and singing some new ones
for us. It was fun trying to remember the words to some of the old ones! This
went on until about 11:30.
Saturday we picked up our breakfast and ate in the parking lot downtown, to
make sure we had a parking space, then walked down to the clock to watch the
parade along with Kyle and Bobby Butler and the Easters, and a few others.
Great parade as usual!
It seems to me there were only about a third of the fans this year as usual.
The sidewalks were not crowded at all compared to some of the past years.
We made our way to the playhouse and bought our annual barbecue sandwiches,
then looked over the silent auction items. These are way out of reach for me!
That afternoon we rode to the old Rockford General Store, which was the
county seat for some few years around the middle 1800s. Quite an interesting
place. On the way back I missed the first turn and wound up lost! I finally
asked
directions and we found our way back. Col. Tim's was so funny, except for
the tribute to Ernest T. The ladies, Ellie, Thelma Lou, and Charlene, all gave
very moving words of love and honor as some of the scenes he was in were being
shown in the background. His son David, was also in attendance and he has
been nicknamed "It's you, It's you, It's Ernest Two."
This show was longer than any we have been to, so we really got our money's
worth.
Sunday AM we attended the Interdenominational service in the amphitheater,
led by Leroy and Jan McNees, scripture read by David Browning, the Lord's
Prayer sung by Michael Hoover, with group singing led by Leroy and Vision 5
singing group. I think I have their name right. Jan did a wonderful story for
the
children, and Leroy brought a short message.
Afterwards we all ate at Golden Corral, then headed for home, another year
of fun and fellowship over.
Thanks to all the tribute artists, all the stars whether you were well known
or lesser known. It is you who make our weekend once a year so enjoyable.

I serve as pastor of a Southern Baptist church in East Tennessee. I have
recently realized, much to my broken heart, that these folks have never had a
Mayberry Bible Study. Some have never even heard of it! How sad.

I have one tape and teaching guide from Thomas Nelson from the last one I
taught in 2000. I can't seem to find the material in the stores or online
anymore. I guess they are out of print. The people have been excited since I
mentioned it. One of the members even told me to "gas it up chickie"

Can anyone offer me any help in finding some of the material. Any help would be
appreciated.

You know, I always favored the B & W episodes, but last week I was surfing &
thought I saw "Klinger"--yep. It was the gypsy episode. For the first time I
noticed how pretty Aunt Bee is. Combined with her animal magnetism, no
wonder Briscoe declared for her.
