>>>>>>Barney's first car is one of our all time favorites. When we get
to the scene where the car has died for the LAST time and Andy and
Barney are waiting for the wrecker to come and get the car, my husband
turns to me and asks me the SAME question everytime WHEN we both watch
that part: WHY would two grown men both sit in the back seat of that
car, ESPECIALLY when they are on the look out for that wrecker? IT just
does not make much sense. Someone might say that they both wanted to
take a nap; huh? Wouldn't they have hunkered down in their places in
the FRONT seat, so that when they woke up they could see better if/when
the wrecker arrives? We never have figured out that question. Any
answers from any of y'all? sheila in Branson>>>>>>

It's obvious. It's TV. How interesting or, at least, different would the
story have been had there not been some kind of device to
surreptitiously get them into the chop shop to nab the crooks
red-handed? In many episodes, as in watching any kind of story or TV
show or reading a book, we have to willingly suspend our belief and
rationality for the sake of the story. I love TAGS, so it is not
negative to just say that we willingly set aside a lot of more logical
and rational ideas in order to make the show work as well as it does and
to be what it is.

In my opinion the kiss Andy plants on Helen when they're arguing is the most
passionate. Also the one he gives her to keep her from saying anything when
Thelma Lou is griping at Barney. Everyone wonders why Andy and Helen stayed
together when they seemed to quarrel alot. I believe it was the making up from
the quarrels. Just imagine if everytime Helen got mad, Andy gave her some
sugar. It'd be hard to stay mad too long.

The kiss Thelma Lou gave Gomer seemed to be the one that caused the most
trouble though. I'm sure there was a nice make up kiss from Barney after
everything was straightened out.

>>>Did anyone else but me see Ellie on Cold Case Files tonight?
Our Miss Ellie is still out there acting! Brenda Jo<<

Thanks Brenda Jo, and Joyce I did see that..and I thought the woman
looked and sounded familiar, but I couldn't place her, and I forgot to
watch the credits. Great Noticing you Trained Noticers!! (She's also
in the movie Pretty Woman from a few years back).

I was watching the County Nurse Episode from Season 2 DVDs, and saw a
hidden gem I had never seen broadcast. When Barney is doing his Karate
at the beginning, I had never seen his bit about the bull elk, dancing
around and kicking...and then his snake bit..very funny!!

>>>Can you recall memorable Mayberry kisses?<<<

That's a great topic Aunt Bee1 !! We've done most passionate kisses
before, but I don't recall doing most memorable.

---Thelma Lou's kissing Gomer on the jaw.

---Thelma Lou's kisses of Barney that left lipstick all over his face.

---Andy and Helen's kiss with Goober and Barney watching through the
window.

--- Andy Kissing Opie as he apologized for the whippin' he gave him
earlier

Nearly all of the buildings that were in "Mayberry" were also in Gone With
The Wind. The buildings (facades) were built for GWTW and were supposed to
represent part of Atlanta. If you go to either of the following websites you
can see several photos that show some of the town during the filming of

Saw Aneta Corsaut on Bonanza the other nite. She had long wavy hair. ( Maybe
a wig.)
Adam seemed very interested. Did not see the end, but if any Cartwright is
interested in a woman, she usually dies at the end.
What's wrong with third party? It's not dirty or anything.

>>>I was wondering if anyone knew of any buildings seen on TAGS that were
also seen in "Gone With The Wind". I know the two were both filmed at Forty
Acres in Culver City, and I was doing a little research.

I haven't watched GWTW in a number of years, but I do clearly remember one
building. In Mayberry, it is located near the courthouse. It has a brick
facade and an unusual arched doorway. You can see it at the following link
(scroll down to the bottom picture:

http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/startrek/miri2.htm

On GWTW, this building can be seen in the background of the scene after the
war, when Scarlett goes downtown to ask Rhett for money (my memory may be a
little fuzzy, but I think that's it).

Anyone interested in the history of the 40 Acres backlot should check out
this outstanding site:

http://www.jimnolt.com

It's primarily devoted to the old Superman TV show, but it has a lot of
information about TAGS as well, plus Star Trek, Gomer Pyle and other
productions.

Speaking of GWTW, Mitch Jayne once recalled wandering around the backlot and
looking at the charred remains of "Atlanta" that had never been torn down.
The burning of Atlanta was the first part of GWTW to be filmed. The backlot
was so crowded with unusable buildings that the easiest solution was to
start the cameras rolling, torch the whole thing, and pretend it was
Atlanta. The huge structure that comes crashing down as Rhett struggles to
control the terrified horse was originally the wall built to contain King
Kong on Skull Island.

>>>WHY would two grown men both sit in the back seat of that car, ESPECIALLY

sense.

This is a great episode, but it really stretches the bounds of logic. How
did they intend to find Mrs. Lesch? She never gave an address, and even if
she had it would certainly have been a false one. All she told them was
that she lived in Mt. Pilot, but why would Andy believe her, knowing she was
a crook? What was Andy's plan, to go to Mt. Pilot and knock on every door
in town, hoping she might answer one of them? Even if by some miracle they
found her, what then? Were Andy and Barney going to WALK all the way home?

It's hard to imagine that Andy could ever be this foolish. He KNEW the car
was a piece of junk that was bound to break down at any moment. At the very
least, one of the lawmen should have followed the other in the squad car,
then when the car broke down they'd have the radio to call for help, and one
vehicle in good working order.

I've been receiving this WBMUTBB digest for at least 3 years and I've
just now decided to add a thought or two. Just wanted to mention my 5
year old son and I love to watch the show. We now have Seasons 1 - 3
and they are something we watch together before he goes to bed. This is
something x-tre special for me. When I was in college, about 13 years
ago, there were times that TAGS came on 3 times a day. And I had my VCR
programmed for all three! I made my own show listing for each tape and
would watch it after my classes at the end of the day. Now I don't have
to fast forward thru the commercials on the DVDs AND I get to share it
with my son. So far, his favorite is one of mine - "Convicts-At-Large".
And the original sponsor spots are truly wonderful in my opinion. "I
appreciate it and good night..."

I went to both of those places in West Burlington this past June, and
they were ok. They both have a Mayberry themed menu and good food. There
are pictures up on the walls from the show, but it's not an "all out"
TAGS theme. It was enough to make me happy (being from the Midwest and
not much exposure to TAGS.) I love to meet fans and see TAGS out in the
world anyway I can get it I guess. Aunt Bee's and Otis' are right next
to each other.

Have a great time, and while in Burlington, be sure to check out Snake
Alley.

Happy motoring,

Watching "I Married a Monster From Outer Space" (it's a much better

(Captain Barker and others) as Dr. Wayne and Jean Carson (Daphne and

A few memorable kisses come to my mind, the first being when Rose got married
in the courthouse and Opie almost threw the whole box of rice at her and her
new hubby (who later on was Mr. Foley). The kiss Aunt Bee gave Opie "come here
and give me a little sugar"
when Aunt Bee first came to live with Andy and Opie. I love the expression on
Thel's face when Andy kissed her on the cheek on her front porch. When
Briscoe declared for Aunt Bee is another great one......there are many many
more, but I will leave them to other folks.

.....shoot my Mommer and Daddy just shook hands on their dealin's......

.......low and lonely...sad and blue....thinkin' only of little you....always
tryin'......

Johnna Bixenman stated, "Also, I'm planning to take a friend out for her
birthday next week, and I remember hearing about Aunt Bee's Cafe & Otis
Campbell's Bar & Grill in Burlington, Iowa. That's about a three hour
drive for me, so I'm interested in checking those out. Anyone been
there before? Thank for any help with this too!"

I have been to the Otis Campbell's Bar and Grill in Burlington. It is a
neat place, but it has been 8 years since I've been there, since I live
2 hours away. I thought the food (sandwiches, soups, steaks) was very
good, and it had a nice, small town sports bar atmosphere. If I recall,
there were many photos and displays of Otis or Mayberry in general. I
do have a t-shirt from there stating, "I got the 'boot' at Otis
Campbell's Bar & Grill". It has a nice drawing of Otis, smiling and
holding a brew. I would love to go back there sometime.

I was watching Pretty Woman on tv the other night and am almost sure that Miss
Ellie played the part of Bridget - a kind woman who helped Julia Roberts'
character find a suitable cocktail dress. The voice and the sweet demeanor
seemed to be the same.
Now I believe I'll whip over to the Mayberry.com site and see if they have
Seasons 2 and 3. I can't find them anywhere. I also want a brand spankin' new
Mayberry Union High sweatshirt. That'll beat everything, don't you know?
