I was going through the episode list and hit on what I consider to be a
really hot streak of good episodes. Imagine the 9 weeks that started with
episode #70. You would have seen:
70 - The Cow Thief
71 - Floyd, the Gay Deceiver
72 - The Mayberry Band
73 - Lawman Barney
74 - Convicts at Large
75 - The Bed Jacket
76 - Barney and the Governor
77 - Man in a Hurry
78 - The Bank Job
What a run!

Since I've been on this earth a whoppin number of years, I have my own theory
on why they were there. It has to do with the nature of the male gender. Ok
guys don't get rilled up on this one, but it is always said of males that they
don't like to ask directions ,probobly part of the male genetic makeup or
something. Now us gals, that doesn't bother us one little bit, since we don't
enjoy getting lost. Maybe Andy & Barney just kind of took off with the single
thought in mind of getting his money back, where I think us gals might have
pondered the situation & come up with a plan. When faced with the broken down
car, they called for Gomer's tow truck, got tired of waiting & got in the
backseat because it was more comfortable. Those old cars had roomier back
seats, & there just isn't that much room up front.

>gee this elevator is named Otis
The Otis Elevator Company has been around for awhile. Trivial
Triviality: Elisha Graves Otis is typically given credit for the
skyscraper. In 1852 he invented the elevator safety brake that begat
the Otis Elevator Company. The technology was around for tall buildings
to be constructed, but nobody wanted to walk up all those stairs, so
they didn't build the really tall ones until after Otis's elevator came
around.
No word on whether Elisha was a drinking man or a relative of Nathan
Tibbs.

Could you put this in the next newsletter?
The "Music City Reader 2005: Great Writing on Country and Bluegrass
Music" (www.musiccityreader.com) is now avaialble and includes a great
feature by Nancy Cardwell on Mayberry's favorite bluegrass band, the
Darlin's (The Dillards). Cardwell does a great job of tracing the
history of Rondey and Doug Dillard and their bands from Missouri to the
West Coast to Nashville and beyond. The Reader also includes articles
on Ricky Skaggs, Jimmy Martin, Loretta Lynn, Bill Anderson, Gretchen
Wilson, Brad Paisley, and many other stars.

In last week's episode Denny Crane and Alan Shore went fly fishing. On this
week's episode, the sewers of Boston were so flooded that you could fish in
them. Alan and Denny were off to go fishing. I was waiting for one of them to
skip a stone.

They had went fishing on the previous episode and long story short
shatners character stressed had a
fishing pole over sewer grate in the episode. He needed a mayberry pick
me up. The two have sort of
mentor/ father son type relationship. I take the show as more comedy
than drama. I love Betty white on there. it has some funny moments loved

It's a shame Aunt Bee didn't stick with her Chinese restaurant. And it's
too bad Malcolm Merriwether and Aunt Bee couldn't work things out. Might
have been a good thing to have Aunt Bee's English Garden Tearoom. With
Malcolm in the kitchen, we'd have had roast beef and yorkshire pudding,
shepherd's pie, fish and chips, bangers and mash, and even Bubble and
Squeek! Plus Malcolm can set a mighty fancy table.

I didn't see the show but previously, James Spader's and William Shatner's
characters went on a fishing trip together in Canada so it was probably related
to that.

I can relate to your post. My wife and I have 2 teenage boys now, and many
days I come home from work and see them in front of the TV with the TAGS DVD
playing. I guess I must have done something right.

Were you watching this episode on TV, Joe? If so, they must have cut
out the part of the scene that shows Aunt Bee leaving. No wonder you
were confused.

Thanks Thelma Lou...yes I must've missed that or like you said, that may
have been edited...but remember they came back the next night also...and
I don't think she was there again. I'll put on my trained noticing

I missed Boston Legal this week, but last week Shatter and Spader spent
the whole show up in Canada fishing Coho Salmon, and taking it easy.
Perhaps that had something to do with the Mayberry theme?

Donna S. So sorry to hear of your loss. Your Josh liked Hunting and
Fishing just like Andy, it says. Your virtual Mayberry friends grieve
with you. What a nice young man..too short life.

Just saw a commercial for the TV show "Ghost Whisperer" that airs on CBS on
Friday night. This week features real life Dad of Ron and Clint Howard, Rance.
Also on Friday on CMT is a chow about legendary Country Comedians and it
features, Andy Griffith, George Lindsey and James Best.
There may be a conflict in schedules so get your TIVO's warmed up!!
