Dale, you hit on the series I was going to mention. I think there are other
recurring themes on GP-USMC that were on TAGS. The one that comes immediately
to mind for me is when Sergeant Carter wanted to be in the choir (just like
Barney) but he couldn't sing a lick, and the choir kept trying to hide from him
to practice without his off-key warbling.
I know I've seen a few Leave it to Beaver episodes also (similar plots to TAGS)
but I'll have to put my bucket on and think of what they were.
--------------------------------------------------------------
As far as Credited actors who never showed..wasn't that the basis of the old
Johnny Coons story? Episode #144 (Goober takes a car apart) he is credited,
but apparently never shown.
For a while we thought Tom Jacobs (Danny Thomas' brother) was Johnny Coons.
Tom appeared in that episode and said "How'd they do it Sheriff?"

I attended a funeral this past week in a small town. I was amused by the fact
that the funeral parlor was in the same building and owned by the same family
as the Furniture store. The story goes that in the old days they made the
caskets and the furniture. It made me think of Mayberry's Orville Monroe and
his TV Repair/Funeral store front.

Yeah, that's the actor of the goat.

*** I haven't looked at them lately, but it's from one of the color seasons,
I'm guessing season 7. It does NOT have any sponsor logo, however. I
would guess that is the original closing credits and by that season,
there probably was not a single show sponsor.***
General Foods was always the show's main sponsor. I have a w/o/c copy of the
1968 finale on tape and most of the commercials are for GF, including one in
which Opie and Aunt Bee talk about Shake 'N' Bake. There **is** however, one
break where Bristol Myers picks up the tab (Bufferin is advertised). The first
"Mayberry RFD" is sponsored by General Foods also, but the middle commercial is
for Virginia Slims (obviously not by GF, at least not back then). They shared
sponsorships at the end, but the logo in the corner of the screen was sometimes
there, sometimes not.

He came to my HS also. Was some kind of whistling champ & went around to
schools whistling. His most famous he claimed was "Fishin' Hole" and he
closed with that, I think. He even brought some kids up on stage to
whistle it.

I see Leon as owing a sandwich shop, maybe manager of the Subway or
Quizno's.
I'll bet Arnold is now Sheriff of Mayberry (he did write that school
report of Sheriff Taylor) or Andy's no. 1 deputy behind Andy, Jr.
Johnny Paul Jason is a successful writer having written a book of old
wives tales.

Actually Andy saved Gomer's life after, I think, a grease fire started
at the fillin' station. The he annoyed Andy, Opie, and Aunt Bee so much
that Andy pretended the gas leak had messed him up & that Gomer had
saved him.

In an old Ginger Rogers movie this morning, she said the community theater was
working on "Six Who Pass While the Lentils Boil." I just always assumed it was
a made-up title on our Mayberry show. Now I'm curious about that play! Guess
I'll google it!!

Yes, some of the same writers worked on both shows, and of course, both
shows had the same executive producer (otherwise there may have been legal
problems with these "copycat" storylines).
Another GP episode involved a pretty girl who tricked Gomer into "proposing"
to her, then threatened to sue for breach of promise. It was very similar
to the TAGS episode "Barney on the Rebound," with Gomer playing Barney's
part, and Sgt. Carter playing Andy's part.

Well, that's just not nice of him at all. Barney would probably have him up
on fraud charges for that kind of unMayberry-like behavior! :(

Hey everybody. With all this talk about when everybody joined up, I
thought I'll throw my two cents worth in. I'm not exactly sure but I
think it was in the summer of 2000 (or maybe 99). I do know that when I
found this board that I thought it was the best thing sense sliced
bread. I ordered my WBMUTBB t-shirt and wore it to my first Mayberry
Days that year. I haven't missed one sense. I will never forget that
time. We didn't have any tickets to anything and didn't know what to
expect, but someone on this list could not attend the Dillard's concert
and offered them for sale and I bought them for myself, wife, and son
and we enjoyed the show. I also remember eating breakfast at the Snappy
Lunch and in walks Allan (Floyd) and David (Barney) and they signed us
an autograph and Allan said that he liked my WBMUTBB t-shirt. Well I
have been hooked ever sense. I never really knew how much I enjoyed
TAGS until I joined this board and went to Mayberry Days. It's a real
highlight in each one of my days. THANKS a lot Allan. Well got to go
now. Horatio (Kevin)
Did you mail them letters? I don't want to know!

I could sleep better at night if I knew the answers to these questions:
What do you think ever happened to Ed Sawyer?
Do you think that Tom and Annabelle Silvey stayed married?
Whatever happened to Howard?
Did either Gomer or Goober ever get married? Did they make a success of G&G
garage?
Any what about Lydia Crossway?

There are a *lot* of issues with a goat eating dynamite. Assuming he
*doesn't* get poisoned, there's a question of whether a goat would even eat
dynamite,
and if so, would it not explode while he chewed it up? There are also
questions over whether his digestive juices would neutralize the powders,
but once
again, all of that assumes Jimmy doesn't die from poisoning, which would be
most likely.
Still, the fact that the writers pulled it off is a testament to them and to
the actors.
More like the actor of the goat! And they ain't selfish either.
